Hate to piss on your cornflakes but Riis is right. with a 'standard' round there is little/no loss of accuracy or range. The problem comes from using the subsonic ammo, which obviously due to the smaller charge won't be as fast and effective as a result. Hence my request to be able to use standard rounds in SD weapons, but at a cost of a little more noise. Little issue with the arma engine is the SD bullets still make the sonic 'crack' as they pass. bleh
-
You're not the first person to mention this i think, and it'd be a great idea. I'd also like to see SD weapons compatable with non-SD ammo, but with a slight noise cost, since i believe most weapons will use the same ammo, 'silencer' or not.

Seperate Stable and Testing Builds...
DrRageQuit replied to duddbudda's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I know. Read my previous post on Pg.1.. That guy was just the perfect example of WHY this needs to be done as a priority. Kids raging then telling all their friends not to get the game. On the other hand, the tears do help lubricate the servers. -

Seperate Stable and Testing Builds...

This is something i've mentioned a couple of times now. Every time i've been shot down with the "ITS ALPHA HURRR DURRR" bullshit response and it does get a bit tiring. A dedicated 'team' of testers is exactly whats needed to get the best of the mod for people on the whole. Theres the people who want to play, and the people who want to help progress the mod to its full potential. At the moment we're all testers, and its quite clearly making some people unhappy when X/Y/Z bug affects them. This *shouldnt* be a problem as in an ideal world we'd all be mature adult like people who can handle it when their digital character gets busted up a bit. But its not, and we're not, and they cant. At the moment, these people are defeating the entire object of what is being attempted, by going back to old builds or simply not playing. So it really wont hurt to just give them their toys and let them play. Out of sight, out of mind. -
Fair enough then. Get some sleep!

Alpha is for 'things'' date=' Beta is for bugs. We are in Alpha. [/quote'] Yeah yeah alpha etc. etc. That one got boring a while back. Alpha isnt much good when you cant test for more than a couple minutes at a time. People are just rolling back to 1.7.not2, which then achieves about as much as not playing.

Not to seem ungrateful or negative or anything. But would it not be wise to release the fix for the current crippling bugs before working on other things? Not really criticizing your methods, you're the boss afterall. Just seems a little counter-intuitive to be fiddling with more than is necessary in a hotfix. All these late nights to please the minority who cant just enjoy what we have must be taking a toll, no?

If you lost 85% blood you'd likely be dead anyway without any medical treatment. IIRC by the time you've lost ~40% you're up shit creek without a paddle anyway. From an article i've just found: The fluid component of the blood (plasma) is replaced in approximately 24 hours provided you remember to drink enough water. The red blood cells are replaced in a few weeks - one study performed recorded an average of 36 days So on the basis that a person contains ~10 pints' date=' we should just entirely remove the ability to regenerate health. Since nobody has lived (or likely will live) long enough to regenerate that many red cells.

They're not invalid at all. Yes theres a lot of people respawning instantly which drags the figure down, but theres an equal amount of people who live much much longer than the average, which bumps it up. Two cans of beans would regen 400. That is not a difficult achievement in any way shape or form. Up until a couple of days ago we spawned with two cans of food.

Still getting some serious desync issues. In a server a few moments ago i ran into a barn past a person who was running out. Grabbed a weapon and waited for the guy to come back in. Suddenly just died. No bang, noone at the door, was clear of the windows. The desync is my biggest issue with gameplay. Can live with loopy zombies, but being raped by a person who (as far as the victim is concerned) doesnt exist is pretty horrible. There also seems to be an increase in people ending up in the wilderness. Several people on the IRC in the last couple of hours have been stuck, and i lost my FN FAL/gps/rangefinder a while ago to the bug too. Also, there's A LOT of servers either updating the name but not the files, or rolling back files but forgetting the name. Can any server admins reading this make sure your servers are either updated correctly or have the correct name. It would be nice for the displayed mission name to contain the server version.

Thats possibly not a terrible idea.. It will stop people idling to regain health, though it does start to step back away from the realism that was intended.

Looking good!

20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
DrRageQuit replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The "no gun" feature was rolled out with 1.7.1. I'm half tempted to suicide and respawn so i can survive and prove all the nay-sayers wrong. It is not impossible to survive without the pistol. It is far from easy to survive no matter what weapon you have with the new zombie behaviour. -

recombine? as in no more collections of half-empty 'clips'?

Prediction: "Bandits" will STILL camp the coast just to kill unarmed newbies for killings sake. Lets be honest, you wont be at much more of a disadvantage. The Makarov isnt going to take down a bandit with a rifle 200m out.

Kronzky's SP "hack" removed (his words)
DrRageQuit replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I think its a sad situation that we're in these days. The more popular and well known something is, the more people actively seek out opportunities to rage about its creators. Any excuse for a good lynch mob. I didn't know anything about the SP mod, or even that it existed for that matter. Even if i had known about it i'd have not cared much as DayZ is a multiplayer oriented mod. Its funny that people have such a sense of entitlement. People seem to honestly believe that anything they find on the internet is theirs, and its creators should bend over backwards to suit their needs. What they don't realise is that if you wanted to take DayZ down and discontinue development, you are completely entitled to do so. Though we'd all prefer if you didnt! Any problem between yourself and another person should ideally be kept that way, as its none of our damn business. As soon as it hits the public eye it gets twisted and bent out of shape and before you know it people are doing their best to ruin your image despite not knowing the full facts. You're doing something innovative. Thats always going to carry its own dangers and i think you're getting a lot of ill deserved grief. You've said you haven't been paid a dime for what you're doing, and i believe you fucking well should have been. Apologies for the ramble marathon. I guess i'm pretty passionate about these things. It pisses me off when i see small-time developers getting shit for something that they're not getting paid for. I do sometimes have to think hard about why you even bother.. Bleh. Chin up. Theres more people rooting for you than against ;) -
You're playing a zombie apocalypse mod, where you don't sleep, can sprint petty much an unlimited distance, and can eat 8 steaks in a row to magically restore your health from deaths door to 100%. And you're complaining that the weapon that you don't HAVE to use is unrealistic? I'd like to introduce you to a little thing called "Priorities"... If you dont like the weapon, drop it. At the end of the day, we're in russia. Finding an abundance of M16's, M4's, MP5's, the M107 etc is unrealistic. Finding an AKM in a deer hide is unrealistic. Being able to find and know how to use an IV blood pack is unrealistic. Morphine magically fixing broken bones is unrealistic. There are far more important things to fix before switching priorities to your own opinion. ;)

Couple of questions regarding sandbag barriers. I'll get to the point: 1) Can they be taken down? If so, how? Some prick set them up in front of all the tents at stary sobor so nobody could get in. I could see a perfectly good M4A1 CCO SD that was just out of reach. I figured an attempt at vaulting over it would result in smashed skull on the rock hard canvass of the tent. 2) how do you build them? I'm seeing more and more barriers built, and i had an entrenching tool. But no idea how to actually make the barricade. Explain?
