Well, this is chernarus, imaginary part of czech republic. It being former eastblock country, or even if it really was russia, doesn´t automaticly mean every citizen is a gun smuggling, freedom hating bond villain. Believe it or not, they have gun control laws much like any western country, do not wear all red, don´t carry Aks when visiting friends or strolling in a park and do not smuggle Rpgs to middle east on their free time.

Water and energy consumption rates figured out - and they are not as I expected
Frostbyte_ replied to (TMW) Merino's topic in General Discussion
Finaly something to slam to the face of people crying how unrealisticly often they need to drink and refusing to admit it when they´re told they´re not understading the mechanics. Personaly i don´t mind the raw numbers getting out there for few reasons. Current indicators of your characters situation are kinda lacking, and all the food packaging is missing it´s nutrition value labels, so damn right there should be a way for learned survivor to find what´s good for his person (maybe drop a book in game...."nutrition and you - chernarus edition"). I know i can find out that stuff in reality, where it´s represented by far more than 2 values, so i don´t see a problem if i know it in game. And secondly the other part of the numbers is still hidden (the values you actualy have), unless you start calculating your intake and consumption rates. And then it´s pretty much authentic anyway, since you really can count calories and nutritient intakes in reality too (or get overcharged for letting "an expert" do it). -
With all the revolvers and pistols spawning, there´s a good possibility of creating a Chernarus dueling society.

No way it´s ever going to revive a dead person. Unconscious player yes, but not a dead one....could look at it as a battery powered epipen. Well anyway, far down the line it might have some serious use, if the health system gets more added to it. <edit> i seriously don´t know why people even expect it to revive a dead person, when the whole game is built on premise of auhtenticity.

Winter Survival: The Northern Expedition
Frostbyte_ replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I´ve yet to see a single game that properly implements snow. And if i had to guess why, i´d say that it´s because snow is such a fucking pain in the ass that players(well most players anyway) really don´t want to play if there is something even near to what snow in reality is. There´s also a fuckton of additional shit that would need to be implemented to make proper snow feasible, proper clothing, skiis, snowshoes, sledges, specialised vechicles, huge amount of conditions and effects on characters, gear, environment. 2018 maybe? -
There´s little mosin test i did. Later on i found pristine scope, and it still pulls to left and i couldn´t notice any significant difference in accuracy. So you can rule out scope condition as a cause.

Saline is used to retain blood pressure (to keep blood flowing in other words) or to remedy dehydration. It doesn´t substitute blood and if your blood is too diluted you die from lack of oxygen (no oxygen carriers in saline...or any other iv fluid yet really). Further more saline has unfortunate habit of not staying in veins, as it will travel through the walls of your veins and ends up in other parts of the body. The good thing about saline is though that it´s cheap (it´s just salty water after all), easy to use, easy to preserve and does delay death. What medics would use in severe cases of blood loss would be different plasma replacers, such as hemohes, because those actualy stay in the veins a lot better compared to saline, but are quite a bit more expensive. And in the end if large amounts of blood is lost, without actual blood transfusion, patient will die or at the very least will be incapacitated for a very long time during which he will constantly need to be supplied with additional iv fluids, and that´s only if the bleeding has stopped (Which might seem trivial, but in 50% of battlefield casualties the reason of death is blood loss) Down sides to blood transfusion are that the blood types need to match, blood is rather hard to come by, and is really hard to preserve for any amounts of time in field conditions. So, in my opinion, in game the saline could aswell replace large amount of blood, but also apply a blood degeneration effect after bit of time (much greater than there currently is, if there indeed is one). There needs to be other iv drips added, with less pronounced degeneration and longer time before the degeneration kicks in. And finaly the ultimate solution, and in some cases indeed the only way to stay alive, has to be blood transfusion. <edit> In essence saline would be temporary measure untill you start regenerating naturaly (might require multiple bags to be used during the regeneration period). Other iv fluids would basicly be saline drips on steroids. And blood would get you permanently towards healthy status.

What is the Point of the In game Map Now?
Frostbyte_ replied to dobrowney's topic in General Discussion
I mainly use it for rangefinding. There´s 2 other topics on map on the front page btw, why not contribute to those? -
Well, in rather common 1:50k map, full map of chernarus would still be about 46cmx46cm. And since the map actualy is more like 1:10k, which would bring that up to 2mx2m, i can very well see why any mapmaker would partition that map. And good luck finding map that isnt fucked up beyond recognition in post-apocalyptic scenario, keeping paper maps intact on the field is a bitch, maybe the SW part was the full map, and you have south west part of it readable.
-
I like my crafted full map of chernarus (that takes 1 slot btw), it´s the best damn thing for rangefinding currently in the game. Anyone saying real maps aren´t quarters of a full map...well that´s true, maps that contain same amount of detail as the one in game often depict significantly smallers area, and having map as big as the one in game in such detail would be pretty damn huge. I do wish they´d implement simple tourist maps, showing mainroads, cities etc, that are full maps by default, and are easy to find.

Can we have have topographic map soon if we ask nicely?
-
OK, here in slightly more grammaticaly correct english. You bought a game that multiple sources said was, is and is going to be broken on multiple occasions. A game whose lead developer told you not to buy it. ...and you´re shocked that it indeed is broken?
-
I found the best way to not get your gear ruined is to not get shot at, it also has added benefit of not getting you killed. If someone thinks pvp i ruined when there´s consequences on botching things up and not killing the other guy before he shoots you...well i´m afraid this game might not be for you. There seems to be lot of different reports on how the damage is working. Some people claim all the gear is ruined, but personaly the localised damage has worked like charm. Somebody shot my legs and only my pants and what was in them got ruined, i shot someone in the general area of his head (3 bullets, i know, terrible aim) and couple items in his jacket got ruined along with his headgear.

In my opinion, the current compass is an example of over-design.
Frostbyte_ replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in General Discussion
but...but....but, they need their zoooooms! How are they gonna live without binoculars embedded in their eyes from now on? -
Well then. 1. Guns are awful with stock attachments. 2. Better attachments improve performance significantly. 3. Guns themselves don´t seem to have stats atm. 4. Rocket has talked about more attachments/gun maintenance/character "skills" To me it seems this is all just paving a way to a more complicated system. System where finding a as-50 doesn´t mean you become demigod sniper (let´s face it, aiming with mouse isn´t hard). System where after finding the gun, you need to maintain it, find replacement parts, find better parts, propably do some diy "enhancements", keep your character in good condition and find a proper firing position. And personaly i like where it´s heading towards. Now i´m not saying that stock guns should stay as they are, because they are a wee bit too inaccurate even for my liking, but if/when they do introduce more things that affect accuracy the ease of finding those should really be the factor that determines the stock accuracy.

What are your thoughts on camping snipers at Balota?
Frostbyte_ replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
The more there is, the better. I´ll gladly leave that area alone and wander around any of the multiple other military spawns, which i can go through freely when the kiddies patiently sit around balota with their scopes zoomed in on barracks. -
You didn´t mention the nuclear sub i wanted, therefore i must assume it´s not being considered, and start a campaign of rage posts to get it in. Besides shotguns are so unrealistic, everyone knows that when moon aligns with mars, there shouldn´t be any shotties left in chernarus, even more so since they´re in the sphere of jupiter and therefore nuclear weapons are to be expected. On a serious note, it´s very nice to get stuff like this, don´t let the over expecters and nay sayers affect you too much and keep on doing great thigns.
-
Well, look at this way. If you´re getting killed, you would´ve been dead with or without restrains in game. But every time you´re not killed after being restrained, you would´ve likely been dead if they weren´t in game.

The M4 sound is very bad, along with the ballistics
Frostbyte_ replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Then either you were doing something weird or the guns themselves have modifiers we can´t see, because mine is accurate to 200m from prone, and i have video of it too. -
The M4 sound is very bad, along with the ballistics
Frostbyte_ replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
I have bad news for you, either you´re bad shot, or there´s some hidden modifiers in the weapon itself. M4 pristine with stock parts fired from prone hits human size target up to 200m with iron sights, add bipod and it´s reliable at 300m. I´d wager magpull parts could increase that to 350, maybe 400 haven´t tested that. Just a note though, damage when distance is above 200 is very low, even zeds take 2 shots to kill. Sounds really are bit puny at the moment i agree. -
Mouse issues, literally unplayable... top priority?
Frostbyte_ replied to Rekuja's topic in General Discussion
It´s not that. Cleaning was one of the first things i tried, but even before that the mouse worked perfectly in the menu screens of the game, on desktop and in other games, it´s definately something to do with the dayz itself. I´d dare to guess it´s the infamous negative mouse acceleration having some weird interaction with something else(the problem does get more pronounced as i increase the speed i move my mouse), so atm i´m waiting for the mouse acceleration fix. -
I heard tactical vest might have some, haven´t tested, only found 2 of those and valued the better camo on the uk vest above the protection i might´ve gotten.

Or you know, play the game like it´s supposed to be played? It´s ridiculous how some people see other people doing things as a justification to do it theirselves. The new rarity is pretty good, previosuly i found m4 to be trash loot. There was just so many of those around that i found they only took spot from more valuable loot

Everyone is suffocating! Gas masks issue.
Frostbyte_ replied to combatcomm1's topic in General Discussion
Could we make gasmasks kill people who go unconscious with them? Because that´s what often happens. While we´re at the topic of gas masks, if there´s ever going to be contaminated areas, i wish this game gets even close to what Metro games have with their above ground sections (well, when you´re unprepared anyway) It´s just amazing when you end up running against the clock, trying to find new filters while your breathing gets heavier and heavier and vision starts to get cloudy. -
Third person view removal from SA discussion
Frostbyte_ replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
I´d prefer the 3rd person to be gone fully, but i do understand the pain of people who get motion sickness, so i´d settle for a good amount of 1st person only servers. That´s because 1st person only is in my opinion the superior way to play this game. There´s just something about zombies jumping right towards your face that 3rd person just doesn´t do justice to. And it´s fricking scary not knowing what´s behind next corner before you´ve turned around it. All in all much more engaging, immersive and authentic.
