AS50 can use M107 bullets, although the weapon characteristics become almost the same as the M107 at that point. The AS50 is quieter to zombies and with AS50 ammo it does more damage to vehicles. Definitely AS50. AS50 is definitely less rare too. It is harder to get one from a spawn but easy to find one on a sniper near cherno or elektro.

Spawn, you must not have ever been to the United States. If you have $6-10,000, you can go to Cabela's and pick yourself up a .50 caliber "sniper" rifle (the Cabela's in the town I live in used to have a civilian Barrett even) and for another $1000 an AK-47 and an M16. Canada is not quite as free, but these weapons are fairly readily available there as well. (you have more trouble getting pistols) At least half the population in most areas is taught how to fire and maintain weapons as children hunting with their parents, in the more open areas of the country, the above average civilian shooters regularly shoot deer at 800m. None of the people have any problems cleaning or operating all of the firearms they own, and some people have arsenals in their basements. Guns are literally designed so that a drafted soldier can be taken away from his home and sent to the front line in a matter of days if necessary. Point and shoot. But you are right, people won't raid military bases unless they are desperate, they won't need to in free countries.

What's wrong with "bandits" in this game?
GenTronSeven replied to yoshez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I like that there are bandits out to kill you. It is fun to be the sociopathic killer and it is especially fun to fight the sociopaths. Here is a thought, instead of trying to loot the fire station and grocery store, find an enfield in a barn and hide in the woods around electro or cherno on a reasonably populated server. There are some especially good locations that are totally concealed with a view on the fire station in elektro, I would start there. If you get killed, not a big loss because you don't have a lot of gear. Wait until someone starts sniping and then get him in the head. This is especially satisfying and you get really good gear. -
Hacking seems to be pretty rampant. The first time that I got an AS50, I was sniping people in Elektro and doing quite well. I had a lot of gear because I had been sticking to empty servers like a coward. Apparently, one of the people I killed was a closet hacker, because right after I shot him, he teleported me to the beach and gunned me down. I guess that in a way, I deserved it for camping the fire house, but I wish I would have died legitimately. That being said, I think the game is still worth it. The only thing you lose is gear, and the game is much more fun before you have all of the gear.

Knocked out as soon as I log in
GenTronSeven replied to vengefulninja's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I had this happen also, it persisted until my character died every time I logged in. It actually lead to my death because I was ejected from the server near zombies and when I cam back on I was unconscious for 2 minutes in spite of having full health upon login. -
You should be upset about the bugs and not about the game. If it wasn't for the bug, camping the beach is a waste of time since anyone you kill will have nothing on them. I have been largely able to avoid the bug by always going to servers with the same version. (For instance, stay on 96061 or 96063 etc)

Are the AS50 and m107 going to be in the standalone?
GenTronSeven replied to Timmie3054's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why would removing the best weapons from the game make fewer people have the best weapon? You should argue for fixing the bugs and improving the balance of certain weapons. Even if you believe that realism is more important than balance, how long do you think that a delicately tuned scope is going to last in the post apocalyptic future? I would wager not that long, and scope decay could be implemented if the weapon's prevalence is still a problem after the bugs are fixed. What I am trying to say is that no matter what weapons you don't include or remove, there is going to be a new best weapon that everyone wants to have unless there are a lot of mitigating balancing factors.(IE, scope breaking or something similar as I mentioned before.) -
So I bought ARMA earlier today just to try this mod. I died 3 or 4 times, and really got discouraged after finding a tree stand and finding a shot gun just to get killed by zombies. I read a lot of comments about how everyone just kills each other on site and so decided that I should acclimate myself in a low population server, figuring that the best chances of looting without getting killed by a sniper was there. I came into a new server when it was totally pitch black out. I wandered along the coast and figured that nobody else was around and so I was using the flashlight. I go and loot a few building in Elektro, including the church, the hospital and the building that looks like an office. It turns out that there WAS a sniper there waiting for me. I start to go into this factory looking building and there is a sniper with a bandit headband on! I am pretty sure he noticed me, too, but then he gets mauled by zombies! I hide for a bit and then loot his corpse, taking a map, GPS, matches, an M4A1, night vision goggles, a range finder, and numerous other goodies! Couldn't believe how lucky I was. Any ideas what I should start doing now that I have most of the items I need to survive? Am I better off staying in the pitch black night time servers since I have night vision? What is next in the game? I didn't get a chance to learn anything before taking this stuff.
