Waiting for at least 3-4 more patches before I begin to play properly. I only dip in to the game every so often. To be honest I want to see stable servers, Higher client FPS and less clunkiness in regards to the UI. However I know this is only due to it being Alpha so I'm happy to wait.

It's only just occured to me today that I have explored very little of the map in the standalone compared to when I played the mod. I havent't been to the NWAF, the stranded ship, berenzino and a few parts of the central map. How much have you guys explored?

He always said he was a perfectionist and quite frankly comes across as one of those people that will never be happy with what they do. It's not a bad thing, maybe even a good thing he is leaving at the end of the year.

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
Owain1122 replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
"[–]rocket2gunsRocket [score hidden] 5 minutes ago Yes I can work from home. But I cannot lead a fifty++ person project from home :) However, in a year's time the game will be mostly feature complete and it could be very unfair to whoever leads the development from this point if I am heavily involved, even just at a PR level - because I will eclipse that person." http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1ysdow/dean_hall_to_leave_bohemia_and_step_down_as/ -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

Dean on reddit: [–]rocket2gunsRocket: "When people see it's business as usual, I think they will forget pretty quickly. And it's not like I haven't said this before. Prague isn't my home, I've stayed here one and half years longer than I planned so far, in the end I'll have been away for three years when I planned to be away six months. I don't speak czech, for starters! That's not easy and not fun :)" "[–]rocket2gunsRocket: To be fair... the most important element of the story is that I am continuing to work on DayZ for the rest of the year, and more if required. While I have outlined this intention before (http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1vulr2/i_am_dean_rocket_hall_creator_of_dayz_and/cevx2m1), it's better that everyone knows my intention now, all the "drama" and panic comments... and then in a week nobody will give a crap and we're back to normal." http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1ysdow/dean_hall_to_leave_bohemia_and_step_down_as/ -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

Rocket did say before DayZ's release that he was a perfectionist and that He got the team to literally rework an item/idea three times over till it was 'perfect' (extreme paraphrasing) but he probably thinks that attitude will become a hinderance. Still sad to see him go, especially considering how transparent he made the dev process to the community. What I posted on reddit. Btw guys Dean is talking about this on reddit. -
I'm guessing we'll be seeing the nvidia/AMD optimisations at the end of March. Hopefully new gfx card drivers help too.

Buffing civilian clothes is stupid. However when they lower the spawns for the military clothing and make it harder to find, civilian wear will be much more prominent.

Would ingame currency have a place in DayZ?
Owain1122 replied to Jaxis's topic in General Discussion
What use is money in a lawless/unstructured apocalypse. It's not like Fallout where civilisation has been rebuilding and reintroduced currency for trade. What use is gold or silver? You can't eat or drink it. -
Approximate percentage of female DayZ players

This, some of the guys in dayZ/ the internet are really weird... -
I thought I had a good idea of the map after playing the mod for over a year but I started following one of the new roads and got lost in the north without a compass for hours!
-
I've seen it happen a few times! It's a massive help and means you don't have to do as much work :P

Yep, I mean don't get me wrong I actually like KOS. It keeps you on your toes. However the whiners who complain it's all PvP are probably the ones who run around Balota with full gear. Once at Balota I was running with a Mosin without ammo and ran in to another player. I took a leap of faith to lower my weapon (obviously it was useless without ammo) and to my amazement the other player holstered their M4 and carried on!

I KOS only if there's hostile intent or at military bases. I've had way more friendly random encounter than hostile.

The Affect of in-game voice chat vs third party voice chat
Owain1122 posted a topic in General Discussion
I have never really paid attention to this before but I never realised how immersive in game chat was. A few days ago I was in the office/school in Elektro and I was looting the upper floors suddenly I heard two guys chatting. Instantly I started to panick and get my weapon out. Thankfully they moved off. It got be thinking that if they had been using Skype or team speak then I would have never had heard them and would have probably walked in to them. However I understand that without Skype or other third party voice software, it would be very hard for people to meet up. It is so much more immersive with the in game chat. What's everyones opinions? -
This game in all fairness is messed up. I've never seen a game that has such performance problems apart from when I played Skyrim on release on the PS3 and got 5 FPS... The only thing that worries me is that they might not start optimising the client side of things till Beta which could be over a year from now.

The Affect of in-game voice chat vs third party voice chat
Owain1122 replied to Owain1122's topic in General Discussion
Not sure how it will work in the final version but in the mod there was group, vehicle, direct and side I believe. Right now it's just direct which is the immediate area. I guess when vehicles are added they'll add a vehicle chat channel. -
That's very strange! Maxed setting except for I believe high on antialiasing and normal on shadows. My resolution is 1920x1080. As a general trend and especially with Arma Intel CPU's seem to perform better. Not always the case but usually. I hope they do because really I and a lot of us should be hitting a solid 60FPS all around.

I-5 4650 3.2ghz, 8GB RAM 1600ghz, GTX770 2GB and a 2TB caviar black. 30-45 FPS in the wilderness and towns 20-35 in the cities
-
Really nice spot! Met a fully armed player there once and even he was friendly. Place is a graveyard of highend loot.

I've been way up north and in the smaller villages but I suppose what I mean is, I haven't been to all the major landmarks yet which is strange for me!

How do you deal with playing lone-wolf?
Owain1122 replied to Apocrypha8's topic in General Discussion
I always lonewolf. I tend to avoid cities except for when I'm a newspawn. I normally travel up the zelenegorsk route and hit the military north of pavlolo? However Out of the 7 players I've met: 4 have ignored me or said hello then left, one I killed in panick and the other two shot me. Plus one of those deaths was on release day. I do find it gets boring that's why that now my last fully geared died, I'm going to not scavenge of the deserted towns and move to full population servers. -
I bought it on release but just like the mod I play in small bursts. I play for a week then have a couple of weeks break to play another game!

A few days ago I was in a barn a few kilometres north of Balota or roughly north. When I decided, even after my experience with the mod, to jump the last few steps in the barn. Of course I broke my leg. So I first tried to find sticks to make a splint... Unsuccessful. After crawling for 30 minutes or so to Balota (I was looking for someone to kill me) I decided that I would crawl to Cherno. Now my character had everything 2 dual mags and assorted mags, full M4, vest, ammo, food, water, can opener, literally everything. I finally crawled all the way to Cherno hospital. Now you may think this was a story about PvP or KOS. No outside the hospital were 3 zombies. now of course woth my broken leg I can stand but not walk. I debated whether to fire and this was my biggest mistake... I decided not to in case people were near. So I pulled out my fireman's axe, the zombies charged, I hit one, the other one hit me... YOU ARE DEAD. The bastard had killed me in one hit. So the moral for me is, I shall always fire in those situations and live with the consequences. I know you all probably think I was pretty stupid haha. However this was the first time I've died to zombies!

Always play alone and I love it. You get to keep the loot and you're much more stealthy. Plus in a big group, I'd be more tempted to get in to large fire fights if I saw a rival group.
