Are we going to die if we go to the International Airfield?
amentes replied to Sacredify's topic in New Player Discussion
I've never actually been sniped up there, but I have died to server hoppers. Either way though, I think you're better off locating a server with frequent restarts, and just looting Helicopter crashes. Oftentimes, you end up going away with nothing worthwhile at the Barracks. Crashes on the other hand are, in my experience, safer and yield better loot. -
Actually' date=' we've stated in numerous posts that we cannot guarentee your safety, but only that we will do our best to avenge you if something happens. So, because we failed to protect you from a hacker, who could have killed you on ANY server, without ANY of us on it, you decide we are to blame? Are we afraid of hackers and scripters coming in and destroying what we're trying to do? Hell yes we are! But our fear of people abusing the game for their own benefit and cheap laughs is nothing compared to our fear of people with attitudes similar to yours. It boggles my mind how people can't understand what we're trying to achieve here, and at the very least give us some benefit of the doubt. We're working against some pretty hefty odds.

Both Stewie.

Stuff like this is NEVER a coincidence. Server admins seem to abuse their powers all over the place, often in this exact way. Other times, they lock down their servers for "testing", rounding up all the vehicles while it's locked. I can't say I blame them. After all, good DayZ servers aren't cheap, and you basically get nothing in return for hosting one. But it still sucks.

That waypoint is NOT visible to other players. Elias is talking about the Circle+X markers, which are indeed visible. The waypoint is NOT the same thing. All that said though, it's total cheating, and if you have to use it, I pity you :P

You need to fire up Multiplayer and host a LAN or Internet server. Just choose the Chernarus map in the maplist, and then find the Range 1.1 on the right. And it's a good tool you found. Very user-friendly.

Any of the items that take up multiple slots in your player inventory, will only take one in the tent. Simple as that :)

There are currently three different ways to regain blood. Eating canned food will give you 200 blood a piece. Eating Cooked Meat, found by killing animals in the wild, gutting them with a hunting knife, and cooking the meat over a fire, gives 800 a piece. Blood Bags will replenish you all the way to full, but can only be administered to other players, meaning that you can't use it on yourself.

A tent has space for: 10 Weapons OR Tools 5 Backpacks 50 General Items Weapons, don't have to explain that. Tools is anything that goes down in your tool slots, or in your Binocular slots. Backpacks. Duh. General items is everything else, including vehicle parts, camping tents and whatever else goes in your Ammo/Grenade slots. Have fun :P

Right Ctrl + R for some, double-tap Ctrl for others.

It's semi-realistic. In the real world, the SD round is what makes the weapon silent. The suppressors effect on noise level is nowhere near enough by itself. The suppressor will help with the muzzle flash though.

The primary goal of Freeside is to establish an area of relative safety, in which to facilitate trade between all players, Freesiders or otherwise. So yes, we will :)

Did you submit it in Entry or in Staff/Employee? No posts in the Application forums were older than a day and without a reply, when we transitioned. If you applied in this thread, then all I can tell you is to go do it again on the forum. I don't accept them in this thread :) Right now though, the forum is a complete mess, so I can't promise you that you'll get a quick application process. But you're still welcome to make one :)

We normally have a 24-hour or less response time, but since we just changed to Xenforo, it may take longer than that :)

researching DayZ before i decide to play
amentes replied to Ballistixz's topic in New Player Discussion
1) DayZ is a MOD for a long-since-released ArmA 2, and its expansion Operation Arrowhead. It is my understanding that DayZ will eventually see a retail release, quite possibly after being ported to ArmA 3, coming sometime in 2013. 2) I don't believe this game will ever have an actual Storyline. Maybe it'll get some lore, but the concept is all about making your own goals and finding your own way. It's the ultimate sandbox. 3) April sounds about right. You can Google the public release of the mod if you wish :) 4) Using ArmA 2 as the backdrop has helped DayZ along, which is obvious from the crazy-low size of the mod itself. A lot of what you see in the current version is from basic ArmA, including the map you play on. The map specifically is what makes this possible, as it's by far the largest playable area in videogame history. That said though, new stuff has been added in the mod. So far not much, but we're still in the very, very early stages. A lot of manpower is being put into this mod, to the point of Bohemia, the studio behind the ArmA series, being involved as well. -
We have a fair amount of people on the roster, yes, but that doesn't guarantee that enough people are available. I personally hope that we can plan things further in advance in the future, but as I may have said before, we're all still in an Alpha state, working everything out :) Frankly, with the amount of people we have on the roster at this point (~100), I'm surprised that we haven't really been stabbed in the back yet :P
-
Mercs will eventually function as hired guns. Some bandit kill you? Hire a Merc and have some help taking revenge. I don't think we're quite ready for fulfilling that yet though. Just like DayZ, we're kinda still in Alpha state :)
-
Yeah, I'm looking into the problem of you not being able to post. Or rather, I'm gonna make another guy look into it, 'cus it's his job :P
-
Yeah' date=' we should probably have made that more clear. Our current conception is of mercs as essentially aggressive expeditionary forces--retrieving bodies, protecting gathering groups in excessively hostile areas, punitive measures against clear enemies. Where gatherers go out ready for trouble, mercs go out looking for it. We also hope to be able to serve as a platform for mercenaries to hire themselves out as freelance guns for hire, but right now we're focusing on servicing our own needs. [/quote'] Once the new forum is up and running, I'm gonna pull a Homer on the recruitment section. I'll make a detailed thread on the specifics of each kind of work. With people asking questions about exactly what's what, we may as well alleviate some of them :) Once this happens, it's very important that everyone who is already on the roster go and make themselves an account on the new forum, and contact an Administrator to get the proper permissions. If your roster information is incomplete, I will PM you on the new forum asking for whatever is missing. If you're not on the new forum, I can't PM you, and so you risk not getting contacted for future runs.

As previously announced, Freeside is currently in the process of moving to a better forum system. Once the transition is completed, there will be another announcement in this thread, after which any business relating to recruitment is gonna be moved to the official Freeside forum set up for that purpose. As of today, I'm gonna be taking charge of getting people into the roster, which also means that the information that you've previously had to fill out yourself, will be taken care of by me instead. This is to alleviate some pressure from the leadership, and because some have been having trouble filling out their info.
