  1. Cooldown is an awful idea. Unless you and your friends are a bunch of tards and hanging around the coast, if you die it's gonna take you at least 15 minutes to get somewhere. So if you die there's still a strong possibility that you'll lose all your gear. I've been alive for 8 days so all these people bitching about PK'ers are just crybabies that made stupid choices and paid for it. Or got unlucky, it happens. I rarely come across another survivor and when i do i ignore them and wait for them to pass through unless they make an approach towards me, then i shoot them, better safe than sorry. As far as the whole "The game is turning into a deathmatch" argument. I can't say it hasn't some people don't make it their goal to survive for a long time, some people just want to go looting for the night and if they die, oh well, they'll do it all again tomorrow. That's just how some people play. Stay away from other people if you don't like it.

    SVD NSPU hacked?

Far as i know the only SVD in Day Z is the Camo one.
  3. Some people just don't understand the meaning of Alpha testing. Seriously most games aren't even playable in alpha, this game is honestly more stable than release candidates for a ton of AAA games. We get more and more features and content every release. No one should have to set you goals in a sandbox game that's about surviving, your goal should be to Survive and gather useful items. Maybe start helping new players out before they meet someone that's gonna stab them in the back and make them shoot everyone on sight. Take a castle and get some tents to stockpile ammo and guns. My biggest regret right now is i'm running around with rare guns, grenades, smoke grenades, and a ton of other desirable items and no where to store them, i am in dire need of a regular server to play on and a tent.

    Weapon Requests

I want to see the VSS Vintorez since it's already in Arma 2, it should probably be the rarest rifle in the game considering it's damn near silent and has a pretty long effective range. As for melee weapons, it's been said time and time again, Arma 2 does not support Melee, it's not worth the trouble.
  5. Here's the problem i see with the current Hunger and Thirst mechanic. First of all I'm and outdoorsman with experience in both Artic and Desert backpacking. You don't get hungry and thirsty this frequently, the Current HUnger and Thirst Mechanic is more of an annoyance and immersion breaker than anything else. You can go 30+ days without food in a real Survival situation, and 4-7 days without water. I end up having to drink a water bottle almost every 45 minutes to stay alive in Arma 2, so either my water bottles are holding about 2oz of water, or the system is entirely flawed. I log in and nearly die fumbling for food and water out of my backpack, it breaks the immersion. My suggestion is to make the food and water mechanic more realistic, and have hunger and thirst impact your characters performance. Getting dehydrated run slowed blurred vision ect, all the way up to what the current system does, but slow the time scale drastically. I have 8 water bottles just in case right now, reastically i should only need 4, TO remain properly hydrated i should be drinking 3-4 water bottles within a 24 hour time span, and eating 2-3 cans of beans/meat. If i start getting hungry i should get the effects of low blood sugar, making it harder for me to aim, ect. I love the fact i have to eat and drink, but I think the time scale is entirely too exagerated, when there are other consequences that could be implemented durring the in between periods. Right now the mechanic just breaks the immersion far too much Overheating is an idea that's being thrown around now the the temperature system is in play, when can play into all of these factors. Too hot, drink more water ect(BUT PLEASE DO NOT IMPLEMENT THAT WITH THE CURRENT RIDICULOUS DRINK 20 GALLONS OF WATER IN 10 HOURS WE HAVE NOW), With lootable outfits coming soon we can look forward to outfits having different temperature scales. a Raincoat for example will help you keep your temp up in the rain, but wearing it in the day time while running all day is definitely not advisable. Ghillie suits would obviously be incredibly hot too. Which brings on the whole idea of an weight system slowing and speeding your movement which i didn't think of until just now. Anyway, sorry for the jumbled mess of ideas, i should have really outlined my ideas before the post but these are my suggestions to promote long time playing and less DM on the coast.
  6. Throw a tin can or whiskey bottle at the person 1up if you peg them with it and send them into shock, lol.

    Melee weapons/ hand-to-hand

Arma 2's engine doesn't support Melee, the Zombie attacks are actually AoE damage. There are no Melee weapons in Arma, and honestly if something gets that close to you, you weren't paying attention enough, it should have already been shot.

    Gender errors

You can't choose gender, this mod is in Alpha. That means that it's not even close to an official release, currently we are just testing it it. The majority of the updates currently are probably going to go towards code and not things like character models, because game stability is a lot higher priority right now than aesthetics. Maybe when it's in alpha we might see some more aesthetic options, and maybe a VSS Vintorez

    What to do next?

Go out in the woods and live for a week, that's what i'm doing.
  10. You need the commercial release to run Day Z, that means Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead, it's not compatable with Arma 2 free, because Arma 2 free is not Arma 2, notice how they tacked a Free on the end of it do differentiate the two?
  11. I'm down. add dlorT on steam, ignore the trollish nature of my name, i'm primarily a scavenger, i don't waste bullets on morons unless they're acting funny. Hit me up and we'll meet up on a server, and teamspeak and talk politics, i've got a group of players http://steamcommunity.com/id/Hadet/

    Day Z...WAS.....fun

Travel in groups, obviously you're an easy victim if you're lone-wolfing it. Having the database mess up and put me on the coast at the moment, and continually not sync my position is what's upsetting me, I can't get out of the cities which means i can't get away from other players. I generally avoid other players and observe them if i see them. If you're stupid enough to go running gung-ho into an area without properly scouting it, you deserve to die. Someone is going to kill you, there's two things that go through my mind when i see another player. "Watch him" or "get out." I usually choose to watch them, i'm not for killing another non-hostile player and most other players will generally leave you alone, or even help you. If you're on the coast getting sniped by bandits, yeah it sucks, get off the coast that is the solution. There's not good loot in the cities, getting a gun that makes a ton of noise is a death sentence unless you're playing with other people. My suggestion is the head to the nearest smaller town, and get yourself a hunting knife and matches. The CZ 550 is great for killing livestock at a distance as well keeping an eye out for other players. Watch what they do, if they're scavenging and avoiding Zombies chances are that player is going to be experienced and friendly. If they're in a group with other players, offer to join them on teamspeak or something. Or avoid them entirely wait for them to leave and go about your business. Encountering other players is tense for a reason, there's limited supplies. I've robbed players for water without having to kill them before. I've even had a random players give me first aid. Once you get some good gear though, avoid other players you don't know unless you see them working together with survivors in side chat.
  13. I think the amount of time it's dark outside is incredibly realistic, the problem here lies with the pitch black levels of darkness. You literally can't play, you can't see your gun in your own hands without turning your gamma and brightness up. NVG's really help but i've only ever had them once. A flashlight is definitely a nice addition and the G17 had one attached to it, but the Flashlight is still decently useless in that level of darkness. I'm all for light sources alerting zombies and other players, that's realistic, what's unrealistic about it is the fact that i can't see a zombie 3 meters in front of me, without raising settings in Gamma and Brightness. This and the fact that i can't see the loot on the ground means i run a real risk of starving to death in the night. Speaking of which i'm pretty sure you can go weeks without eating, that's another issue for another time though. I just feel i shouldn't have to drink a liter of water and eat a whole meal every hour or two.
  14. I don't know what everyone is complaining about drop-rates for. Two nights ago, me and three other survivors raided a military camp and found an AK-74m, MP5, two smoke grenades, and an M1014 ammo. Later we hit deer stands and found a G17, more AK's, a M4 with an ACOG on it and ammo for it. I think that the drop rate being lower gives you more to do, because you have to check more locations for gear and food and water.( Though you get hungry and thirsty far too fast in DayZ i'll start a thread about that later.) After you get a decent amount of gear and ammunition you can survive in the wilderness for quite some time, granted you found some animals to butcher. I feel their should be wild game that spawns in the woods honestly, like Deer and Elk. I realize that Zombies are an integral part of Day Z but i generally sneak past them, i've been living for 2 whole days now, and only had to kill 12 of them, though my squadmates have 100+, Maybe i'm just more cautious than other players.
  15. I'm tired of all you assholes saying to play on a Day-time server. This is not a solution obviously the majority of the player base server hops until they find a Day server, so obviously this is a problem. The game is entirely unplayable at night until around 3:30AM so there's a span between 9PM-4AM where people wont play on a server. Obviously something must be done about this, because we've already been told the constant disconnect reconnect is hard on the master server. That's 8 hours where things are absolutely useless on a server without NVGs. I've played at night on servers durring that time and yeah you can jack your gamma and brightness all the way up, but that's a pretty ridiculous solution. I don't want to play in the day-time all the time, but the rarity of NVG's(which i'm not complaining about) makes it to where i have to, otherwise i have to find a Weapon with a tac-light, because going without a side-arm is suicide at close range. Flares are great don't get me wrong, but you're saying that In my home as a survivor i have roadside flares and no flashlight? Get real. I don't have flares in my home, i don't know about the majority of you guys. And yeah night time is unrealistically dark in regular Arma 2, Rocket works for Bohemia, and i also know he's doing this mod for free, but perhaps he could address whether this is a fixable issue for DayZ or if it's tied to closely to Arma 2 for it to be fixed. Some word on it would be nice, rather than some jackass coming in and saying, "Play on a day-time server noob." There's two other solutions i can think of, 1.) Increase the spawn rate on NVG's(which i'm not really game for, i like their rarity, it makes the decision between working with a player that has them, and killing them a tough choice.) 2.) Spawn with a flashlight and decrease the inventory space they take up, i.e. give them their own slot like binoculars and NVGs. You do have straps on your other leg opposite to your sidearm. Flashlights are generally useful and balanced especially if you find a gun with one on it. I went most of the day two days ago without a sidearm, and just a CZ 550, but the amount of noise the CZ makes almost made that suicide when we finally did aggro some zombies. Luckily a friend was carrying an extra Makarov after we decided that was a bad idea, and scouting from the hills, thanks to the temp system being out of whack at the time was a bad idea since i had gotten sick earlier that day from it.
  16. Could not have said it better myself, a lot of players will cry friendly just to find out if you have better gear than them. Never trust anyone iron sighting the moment you see someone aim even if it's not at you, and you can't see zombies in front of them, kill them. It's not worth chancing. I made the mistake of trusting people too many times the past few days, we'd get loaded up and then they'd kill me after meeting one of their friends so that their friend didn't have to hunt for all the gear. I'm not mad, it's fun makes for a cool environment. If someone invites you to a teamspeak with them, trust them alittle more than before maybe work with them for awhile, but never let them get behind you until they expend supplies try to never let them get behind you.
  17. I honestly think that the respawn rate should be a lot longer than ever 10 minutes. I'm thinking 30-45, with the sheer numbers we saw in 1.5.7, Zed are easy to take care of in DayZ, Bandits are another story, kill a ton of Zombies with nice guns, you better believe Bandits are going to wait until the area is cleared and even stalk to you an area where they wont get attacked. Right now we definitely need more Zed to get rid of the rampant noob killig on the shore. COme on guys, there's no survival reason for capping some noob on the shore. He didn't have anything you needed. I'm all for Bandits fucking me up after i've gathered supplies for them to loot, but blowing my head off the moment i spawn, there's no sport in that, where's the thrill of the hunt?
  18. Didn't manage to get stuck in bad weather at all last night, didn't get sick, that being said we spent most of the night searching for Medicine and Firewood, where we were killed That being said can we please work on the ladder system, i fell off a ladder and lost a DMR today. Another player grabbed it for me after i died, and was actually going to give it back, and he then crawled through a doorway and broke his legs, then got eaten That DMR is cursed i guess.

    Day/Night System Argument

The main problem with playing at night is how unrealistically dark it is, Not spawning with a flashlight, and the somewhat rarity of finding one makes it all the more ridiculous. Seriously i'm gonna have "roadside"(military) flares but not a flashlight, get real. I like the realistic timescale but the rarity of NVG's and moderate rarity of flashlights/weapons with tac-lights make it worthless. I'd love to play at night without having to jack my gamme and brightness all the way, i play in the dark a lot i's fun, there's obviously a big risk to having a flashlight, but some players are ballsy enough to run around gung-ho with a flashlight man, and the other players shooting the zombies, Night time play is where you see most of the teamwork. Don't shorten the day night cycle, just make the Night time visibility bearable enough that most players wont jump ship.
  20. I wouldn't have shot him honestly, but i would have gotten out of sight, waste of a bullet to pop someone when you might be able to get around them without making any noise. On the other end of the argument the guy was stupid enough to be running out in the open in plain sight, it's possible he'd have shot a Zed and had them on both of you in a matter of seconds. So killing him from a secure location might have saved you and other players around you some trouble. Earlier tonight i robbed someone without having to kill them. I'm not a bandit but i needed some water, and he refused to help so i knew he had no intention of working together so i just threatened to kill him until he dropped some water for me. For all he knew i had 3 friends in the woods, i'm not sure if he stuck around for me to pick up the water and sruvey my gear, i didn't get shot so i assume he just went his own way.
  21. I personally think the night time lighting in the mod right now is completely unrealistic. It's far too dark. I spent the last 2 years before this one living in Wyoming, in an area with a population of 12, YOu could see from my house all the way to the mountain ridge line and clearly the snow caps on the mountains. Obviously it'd be pretty hard to spot a person or an animal without them standing on stop of a hill, but it shouldn't absolutely impossible to see someone 10 feet in front of you in this mod. People saying it's realistic are full of themselves, and think we're criticizing the mod, when we're infact providing feadback. As someone who lived in the literal middle of no-where. I promise the night-time lighting is not realistic. Even when it's cloudy on the server there's no excuse for a completely washed out unsaturated visual experience where you can't even see your own gun in your hand. I should not have to max my brightness and gamma to play in the dark, a flashlight and flare should be an option for better navigation, not required to play. Because all you get with the game in its' current state is players jumping to US or European servers depending on the time of day, at the point it's at right now you might as well just turn off Day and Night cycle because it's really rare to see anyone in a night server that isn't duping Night Vision goggles for people.
