    I agree.. The distance should be dropped to 10m, at least then you wont be in combat from your mate chopping a tree down. The distance as it is now can be abused so much. If im running through a forest and axe a cow for meat, anyone within 70m will be told im there.. Its Just stupid.

    install Dayz Commander and it gives you an option to install a previous version. Whether it works or not i dont know, but its worth a shot.

    Download dcp latencey i think its called it will tell you if the cpu is struggling to keep up with what your asking it to do. What gpu drivers are you using? Also try running arma as admin (rick click exe) in steam apps folder and see if it still does it

    Have you tried resetting everything to default, bios settings etc? Does it do it in any game or just arma? Does it lock video & audio or both? Do you have any wireless devices?
  5. at the end of the day its still a game and some people cant physically stay on dayz forever just to make sure that s/he can log off the server in safety. i know what you are saying and i understand the mentality of it, im kind of in agreeance with you and love the hardcore side of it but i can see it from the other side too. im sure there is a solution to the issue, its just down to some clever bright spark to come up with something. i understand the issues regarding a timer now so would it be possible to add in a ban feature if you did it too many times, for example something like.. everytime you combat log you are banned from that server for 1 hour, if you then combat log again you are banned for 2 hours.. and this just keeps adding up.. i know combat logging is annoying and lets face it thats all it is, just an annoyance.. your angry over it because you wanted that gear that the person had but rather than implement something that could potentially cause grief to players why not add something that causes grief to the combat loggers. ? you said yourself, the game is made for the players NOT the hackers so lets punish them rather than us., :)

I agree with you, You'd of thought that they looked at a number of different solutions to this problem, so they must of decided this was the best way, i just cant see how its better than a timer, maybe someone with the actual reason could elaborate why they chose this way over other solutions...
  7. id like to know how close a player has to be to make you 'IN COMBAT' when they fire. i think this system could potentially be used to track players down because they know that whoever is firing is at least X distance away and in what direction.. this takes away the uncertainty of hearing shots and not knowing whats going on.. now i can hide in a bush, hidden and i can just wait to hear a shot, see that im now in combat so i know hes at least X disance away and i can work out the direction from the surround sound and point my gun that way.. and wait.. the only way i can see it working without giving too much away is that if someone fires they have to be a very small distance away, say 20m or something. Edit : removed log out timer idea (been sugggested loads)

    DayZ: Namalsk

    I went on last night for a couple of hours and i really enjoyed the play, people were friendly, the 2 i met in the old hospital definatly were, helped me get some blood and we looked around together. good times :) but.. after playing i have some suggestions that i think would really help make the game better for us all, some are general dayz improvement suggestions but i think each one can be done in this mod/map and it would be a great tester i suppose. ok. here are a couple i thought of last night..... Guns Vs. Ammo - I played last night for about 2 hours and in that time found 3 x akm's, 1x ak47, 1x lee enfield, 2x fal, 1x revolver, 4x makarovs, 1x m14 aim and all of them had plenty of ammo, 2/3 clips of each. personally i think that is a little too much firepower for the time played. Suggestion - Leave the number of guns alone, plenty of guns are fine but reduce the ammo count, make it so guns spawn with no ammo or 1 clip. Reasoning - Having plenty of ammo available means that you can use it up without much worry of running out there is always going to be some round the corner, just like in real life you have a limited number of bullets and if the dayz situation became a reality bullets would become more and more rare. If you had a limited ammo count it would suggest to players that just firing willy nilly is not the best thing to do, what it would also help do is limit the amount of KOS situations many of us are facing. I believe that it will really make you think twice about shooting an unnecessary target, who is going to shoot a new spawn with nothing if its going to cost you the only clip you have left? some people would still go for the KOS mentality for sure but i believe that it would really help in reducing that mentality. Backpacks - This is another thought i had yesterday when i found some a coyote pack and found a couple guns. Suggestion - Make backpacks that contain 10 slots or more ultra ultra rare Reasoning - Having smaller backpacks would have a number of different effects to the way the game is played, firstly you cant carry everything you need and be a 1 man army, no longer can you stash away 2 guns in the coyote pack and have a gun for each occasion you come across. This will put a stronger push on the teamwork element and working together to carry a larger number of items. Choosing to keep the akm in your hand or the pickup the m24 on the floor is actually going to be a decision your going to have to think about, it would introduce roles withing teams as well as stopping players hording guns in which they will die having never been used.. also leaves something for the rest of us :) Animals - I thought of this idea when i came across a fat pig just sat in the forest waiting to be shot. Suggestion - Make smaller animals the majority on the map and the larger animals very rare Reasoning - How easy is it in reality to find a cow, shoot it, grab more meat than a 3rd world country could eat and scoot off never to need anything for days.. answer? pretty easy. If rabbits for example were the dominant animal on the map it would introduce a need to actually 'hunt' and by hunt i don't mean just shooting that pig which cant run away at more than 1/2 mph because its eaten too many truffles what i mean is you would have to be quiet and stealthy to get that rabbit kill because otherwise it will run off and you loose your food. It would also have a positive effect on teamwork, go out with your pals hunting a couple rabbits just so you have enough food for the day.. sound good? does to me.. Zombies - This is something i thought of when i stumbled across a heli crash, i didnt know it was one at first so really scared me to think that zombies spawned in the middle of some trees with nothing around! Suggestion - Put loot (tin cans, JD bottles, whatever) in and amongst trees/forests so zombies can spawn. Reasoning - You are never safe! It makes it so you cant just run into forests knowing that the only threat is a player wondering past. I do feel that some of the immersion and atmosphere is lost sometimes when i know i can just run through the trees knowing that i will never ever run into a zombie. These are all ideas i really believe will help move dayz forward, normally im not one to put suggestions forward but i see an opportunity here to actually (if i've presented them well enough) get the ideas working within this mod fairly quickly. Of cause these are open to debate as im sure some will disagree and agree but as a collective maybe some good will come of the ideas.

    You agreed with some that there are loads of things people miss by only using dayz commander, so i asked if it was arma or dayz related. You said dayz, so i asked you for examples and you said private hives, now you just explained that dayz com has support for them... so what exactly are people using dayz commander missing then?

    So the only thing missing from Dayz Com is access to private hives.. Im pretty sure that if people wanted to they would seek out the private hives if they so wished. So they are not missing as much as you made out are they. I have looked at these private hives myself, i may even join one one day, on a side note the only thing that bugs me about normal servers is the lack of any loot, there just never seems to be anything anywhere.

    Are you talking about dayz related stuff or arma stuff?? Dayz Commander is for Dayz, i wouldnt expect to see arma mods on dayz commander.

    Like what? Id like to try new stuff for dayz/arma2 but when ever i try it never works, or it might be me not doing it right. Eg i downloaded the Namalsk addon for arma2, made sure it was the right version, put it where it said in the root dir and when i booted up arma 2 i couldnt see anything to do with it.

    Yea, arma is just poorly optimized. I dont run any asf or fsaa, post prossessing, shadows, hdr are on the lowest or off. For the op I downloaded arma2 free to see how it ran, ran perfectly fine and saw the same kinda frames between the two. If you can run the free version well on high in cities then you will be able to play the full thing without probs on med, but going off your specs id also say you would struggle.

    I run i7 920 @ 3.6ghz @ 60c Sli 460 cyclone oberclocked to 900mhz @ 70c All medium to high settings 25/35 fps in cities 50/100fps in trees and small cities 150/200fps in i look at the sky Take that info as you will. P.s overclocking the cpu from stock to 3.6 saw no fps increase, overclocking the gpu saw 10fps in cities and 20/30 everywhere else.
  22. I have a very simple solution to this... And its worked flawlessly.. Dont go hunting for loot, let the loot come to you! Basically when i spawn i head for one of the two cities, get my basic survival gear, matches, knife, axe etc then i make my way to the 4/5 buildings which spawn guns, im not interested what aslong as i have something, i then make my way to the opposite city stopping by the sniper spots to see if i can take anyone out who is sniping fresh spawns, normally there will be someone. If you stick around elektro eventually there will e someone with high end gear come snooping for trouble, kill them and away you go with decent loot. I dont think ive been north for ages and ive had nv gogs, ghillies, l85's etc etc. Plus i have the attitude that if i die, i die so what. Ill just repeat and be almost guarenteed to get some decent loot at some point.
  23. Got teleported into the air so logged out straight away as ive seen people logging in/ out managing to get back to the ground in safety.. Logged back in and was in the water, cant see where the land is. Tried deleting dayz and reinstalling but im still in the sea. Tried logging in / out to try get spawned at the coast but no luck :( Any ideas on how to get back onto land? Not bothered if i loose all my stuff. Cheers
