LOL Sometimes I think snipers are just terrible players
DoomsdayClock replied to Jackftw's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Haha... happened to me to the other day. Sniper shot at me, missed, I shot back with an AKM and he alt + f4'ed straight away. Pathetic players really -
I'm happy starting with nothing, it makes the first few minutes after spawning a bit more exciting and fun having to try and avoid bandits all the more until you can find a gun. On top of that it actually forces you to try and be stealthy around zombies rather than just walking through a town shooting every zombie straight away.

Rarest weapon you've found?
DoomsdayClock replied to jdan0327's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So far in this game I've found three Bizon SDs with mags, FN FAL and Satchel Charge -
I don't KoS, the only times I've killed have been in defense - or one time to avenge a friend - but for the most part if I see another player, I'll try and find a nice place to hide/take cover then judge whether he's friendly or not. I've run into a lot of idiots who have just opened fire on me when I've been willing to give them food and supplies. But then you get some people who will go out of their way to help you. I don't know, it just seems silly to treat this game as Kill-On-Sight, especially when you might be killing someone who can give you help or a lift somewhere.

How to find stuff and suck less?
DoomsdayClock replied to Leezeebub's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Everyone plays their own style. You just have to get used to the game mechanics and evading zombies. If you're in a town/city with zombies chasing you, just try to lead them through a building with two entranceways, that way you can lose them easily. Zombies will stop chasing you as soon as they lose sight/sound of you. Just break their line of sight and they'll stop chasing you. And prone is your friend. Generally when I'm out in the wilderness being chased, I'll just run past a pine tree or a large bush then prone straight away, they'll completely lose you. Also, try to learn which buildings are enterable and which ones aren't. That will save you time. -
Spawning/loading screen VERY LONG?
DoomsdayClock replied to son54's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just keep trying different servers. I waited for 20-minutes to get in on the weekend on one server, but then i tried another one and spawned in about 15-seconds. Maybe try lower populated servers too, could help a bit? -
Kind of annoying not being able to suicide
DoomsdayClock replied to MperorM's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah I kind of think that would be handy. There'd definitely have to be a cool down, or say the suicide option doesn't become active until like 30 minutes after you spawn or something. But yeah, as others have said, there's always a way to die. Run into a wall of zombies, get someone to shoot you, jump off a building, drop a grenade in front of you. Or just let yourself slowly die of hunger/thirst -
Need Medical Assistance? We can help.
DoomsdayClock replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I could use a bit of a hand, my legs are broken and I've lost a fair bit of blood in the long wooden barn in Rogovo. I can only really use ANZ, NZ and AU servers though otherwise my ping goes mental -
Was i justified in this?
DoomsdayClock replied to Muncywolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think you did the right thing. MAYBE there's a slight chance that he didn't understand you or speak english or his speakers/headphones weren't working. But more often than not if someone's not responding to me then I treat them as hostile. I once ignored someone who i thought was a noob with a hatchet just running around a town killing zombies, I made it clear that I was friendly. He didn't say anything. Two minutes later, he axes me in the back while I'm looting something. I had some half-decent gear too. You gave him fair warning and he ignored you, you were justified defending yourself. Most people don't even give a warning ;) -
Where did you get your weapon (AKA how bad is loot inflation)?
DoomsdayClock replied to Heiduk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Currently I have: Bizon as my primary; found at a heli-crash site M9SD as my sidearm; found in a hangar at the NE Airfield M1014 Shotgun in my backpack; found it in a Deer Stand near Green Mountain Basically I've found all of my gear from loot spawns except for my satchel charge, found that in a car. -
What do you do when you hit "endgame" status?
DoomsdayClock replied to sauna's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think everyone does something different. The bandits run back to the coast and PVP when they have gear, heroes generally do what you're doing and just help out others who need it. When I hit end game I usually just try to build up a camp, fix up a vehicle and hang around towns helping out new players and such. Sometimes if I'm feeling dangerous I'll venture to Cherno or Elektro to help people there/kill bandits and snipers and that normally results in my death. -
The old snipers are to powerful thread. (with a solution)
DoomsdayClock replied to mtls44555's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Snipers are frustrating but they're just part of the risk. You just have to be extremely careful when crossing fields. Always be on the look out in treelines and on hills for possible sniper locations. Try to avoid crossing large openings (especially close to busy towns and the coast) unless you absolutely have to. If you're going to sprint then zig-zag. -
I'm not entirely sure, I think lighter servers (lower populations) are faster to load, and I find myself getting into servers faster if they've recently restarted. I mostly use ANZ and NZ servers, a lot of them take a long time, but I found ANZ 5 and ANZ 7 to usually be quite fast to load for me
-
Very few actually. Like Xucphra said, it's much more common that you'll get sniped and die before you know what's happened. Most players don't seem to like getting into gunfights since there's a risk they might not survive, they'd rather just wait for a player to turn his back/start looting something and then shoot. I was in a rather exciting firefight in Elektro once though. Two friends and I were running through the city at night. I had a PDW and Double-Barrelled Shotgun, my friends both had AKMs. We were being sniped at by someone on a rooftop whilst a group of other players were taking cover in the grocery store, opening fire at us if we got close. It was pretty exciting, especially since it was really dark. Flares and chemlights were being thrown everywhere, gunshots every second. We managed to avoid the sniper fire by staying away from the flares so he couldn't see us. Then we ditched smoke grenades in the entrance of the grocery store and stormed in. We took them out, although one of my friends died and I lost a ton of blood. It was still one of the most fun moments I've had in game yet.

The annoyance of those who die on their feet
DoomsdayClock replied to LaurenDanger's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I actually had a similar experience in Zelenogorsk yesterday, except instead of a bandit dead on his feet it was a pair of zombies in a nearby house. Shot them both in the head with my bizon, and got no reaction. Thought I was lagging or something, but I think they were just glitched. Still gives you a bit of a jump though. -
I've been playing anz, au and nz servers and I've not actually seen a hacker for a few weeks now. Although I don't usually go on during peak hours so that might have something to do with it

Opinions on releasing DayZ on console?
DoomsdayClock replied to Statik (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I do play console games, some games just work well on console. DayZ isn't a game that would translate well on console. It would have to be dumbed down - a lot. Could you imagine having to navigate the inventory and backpack with an Xbox controller? And even if it did come out on console, I'd still stick to PC. Consoles would attract too many casual players and 12-year-olds who would try and treat the game as a run and gun -
Haha, good point. Good idea to always be cautious anyway. I have run into one or two guys with bandit skins who have actually ended up being friendly and helping out a lot, but for the most part I start aiming for a headshot when I see a bandit skin unless they give me reason not to
-
what would you do if you find a crate full of weapons
DoomsdayClock replied to lawphoto's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Good question. My friend and I once found a car loaded with military rifles (i.e. AS50, FN FAL etc), as well as NVGs, Satchel Charges, ghillie suits etc. We were pretty sure that it had been hacked in. We took a rifle and sidearm each (since we had recently spawned) as well as some other supplies and left the rest. To be fair, we weren't 100% sure if was hacked. It could have been that just some awesome elite player had ditched his car with all this awesome gear in the wilderness and hadn't been back for it. But I guess in your situation, I would have taken what I needed. If I was unarmed/just recently spawned, I'd take a weapon, ammo and some food to help me out. -
Humanity and skins are a good idea. But I kind of liked playing before skins came in. There was even more confusion and risk over who you can and can't trust, making the game that bit more tense. Now it's a bit more straight forward since unless something's glitched, you know someone with a bandit skin got his skin for a reason and will more than likely attack you. And someone with a hero skin can usually (not always) be trusted since it takes work to get that skin.

I play on NZ and ANZ servers, if I bump into you I'll be sure to help you out if ya need it ^_^ Goodluck!

It really does depend a lot on chance (i.e. where abouts you spawn, how heavy the PVP is on the server at the time etc.) Generally, if you spawn near Cherno or Elektro, just do a big run through. If it's not an overly populated server, then I often don't panic too much about spawning as I have a "nothing-to-lose" kind of attitude. Although that is really not the best approach to the game. But just make sure you hit the right buildings. Always hit the grocery store as there's usually at least one weapon in there, as well as a ton of food, drink and a few handy tools that you can use (unless the store's been raided recently). Hit the hospital if you can and stock up on medical supplies. Churches and fire stations are also good spots for looting, you can often find some decent higher tier loot in fire stations. If you hit Cherno, don't forget to check the medical tents for more medical supplies and weapons. If you end up in a town far-ish away, just try to hit houses and barns, you can usually find a gun and a few other items pretty quickly. Also, if you spawn near Balota, then it's worthwhile trying to do a quick raid of the air field there. It's really all about knowing what buildings to hit and having a bit of luck. Sometimes I might play for a good hour or two and only end up with a makarov and a crowbar, other times I've managed to get lucky and find military loot very quickly. The tents you're looking for are placed by players, so you might just bump into them randomly on the map, depending on where a player's decided to set up camp. You'll sometimes find them randomly in the wilderness, other times they'll be in sniper locations over looking a town/city. I sometimes find that people leave their tents close to grocery stores so they can easily dump gear straight into their tent. Just keep an eye out for them.

I will never adopt the kill on site mentality
DoomsdayClock replied to Justine42's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My friends and I play like this as well. Most lone bandits stay away from us because we outnumber them, but we do get into pointless firefights a lot. I think we figured out that about 25% of the players we bump into are friendly and 75% just shoot at us the first chance they get. i.e. tonight we offered to give a guy a blood transfusion and some basic supplies. He just shot my friend then alt + f4'd instead. So playing as the nice friendly survivor can be trying at times. But yeah, I never shoot on sight. Only in self-defense. I actually don't get angry when I'm killed by another player in a skirmish. For all I know he could be completely out of food or drink or running low on ammo and he's just wanting to kill me to survive. But it does annoy me when I'm sniped on the beach or something. -
No it's not terrible, but it's still not right either. All hackers cheapen the game to some degree. Honest non-hacking players spend hours and hours getting themselves geared, surviving PVP and zombie attacks to get to the point in the game where they are. Hackers just press a few buttons and they have everything they want in seconds, where's the fun in that? I would rather spend a few hours finding my own gear rather than have a hacker just give it to me. Eg. I was once saved by a hacker. I was being mauled by zombies, had broken legs and was bleeding out pretty quickly. He came riding in on his ATV rocking an FN FAL and killed all the zombies for me. He gave me a blood transfusion and some morphine, then drove me to safety. I didn't realise he was actually a hacker until he spawned a helicopter right in front of me and spawned in a bunch of military grade weapons and gear and said that I could have them all if I wanted. But I politely said thanks, but no thanks. The point I'm trying to make is that hacking cheapens the game. If you're bored playing DayZ to the point that you have to hack the game to have fun, then perhaps this isn't the game for you. I hate the stupid script kiddies who murder everyone on a server or just play "thunderdome" with everyone, they are definitely far worse then the hackers that just spawn stuff in for fun and to help others out. But it's still hardly a fun way of playing the game.

I've recently spawned in Krutoy Cap. Being a new spawn, I more or less have a care-free attitude on whether or not I die. So I start to sprint in the direction of Elektro. I stay close to the road, but mostly in the treeline. But then I hear flies. I look around me and notice that the sound is coming from the road. I head out of the treeline and see a corpse in the middle of the road. It's a man in a Ghillie Suit. I'm pretty surprised at this point because I rarely find people with decent gear dead in the open so close to the coast. I figure he must have died recently too as he hasn't been looted. I'm extremely warey just in case his killer is still nearby. Looting him, he has an FN FAL as his primary and an M1911 as his sidearm. He also has an Alice Pack with an MP5A5, as well as a number of helpful tools and medical supplies. Then I hear footsteps. I turn around and see another survivor running down the road armed with a crowbar. "Ohhh boy please don't shoot me sir," he says to me over Direct Chat trying to quietly sprint past me on the road. "I'm friendly dude" I tell him He stops running. He comes back and we have a brief chit-chat. I tell him how I only recently spawned and just found this dead guy in a ghillie suit and that I'm headed to Elektro to meet up with a friend. He tells me that he recently spawned as well after being sniped by bandits in Elektro last time, he's hoping he can maybe run back to Elektro to loot his old corpse, although he's not overly optimistic. Knowing full well that he could potentially stab me in the back, I still go against the whole theme "trusting no one" in this game, and offer him the MP5A5 with 2 magazines, if only to empty some space in my new found Alice Pack. I also give him a drink and a piece of meat. He is overjoyed and thanks me a bunch of times, telling me that this is the best weapon he's had in the game yet (he's only been playing for a few days). We agree to run to Elektro together, making smalltalk along the way. After a few minutes more of running, we approach Kamyshovo when something catches my eye. Something in the bushes next to the road. It's a fucking motorcycle in 100% pristine order. "Dude! Motorbike! Let's jump on!" I get on first and he jumps on the back, both of us cheering how awesome our luck is today. Finding two good primary weapons and a motorcycle within minutes of spawning. Being that this is my first time on a motorcycle, I take it pretty slowly, but still manage to navigate my way through the town. But then, gunshots. We look behind us and two men with bandit skins are chasing us with sidearms. "I'm hit," the other guy tells me. I speed us both out of there. He's bleeding, so I get a safe distance up the road and quickly pull over behind some trees. "Can you bandage me man? I don't have any bandages." I thought this was strange, but I still jumped off the bike anyway, I started to bandage him up. Just as I started, he aims up his MP5A5 and sprays me in the face with gunfire, killing me instantly. That's the last time I give someone a ride to Elektro.
