    Experimental patch..what a winner!

There are various dev teams working on different improvements to the game. While one dev team is spitting out lots of weapon models, another is working on more high profile features, like vehicles and bug fixing. All in all, can it and be grateful for the little things that keep us busy while waiting

What the hell did I just read? No to every single thing you said

    Torchia's "Guess That Gun!" Challenge

Would be cool if we could fit an LRS on it
  4. Well-nigh everything I posted does not require any interference with the engine whatsoever. Most are restrictions solely for chopper occupants that are brought to life by adding a simple code.
  5. No ability to zoom in while in a chopper, being restricted to 1PP while in a chopper, a fixed 3rd person view that doesn't allow for exploiting, a decreased FOV so that the chopper covers most of the screen in 3PP, actually making tents/stashes well camouflaged (and not with neon colours like in the mod), not rendering any objects from a certain height/distance (this might be a little extreme), thwart them from paying attention to their surroundings by making flying so severely difficult that utmost concentration is needed. Etc. etc.

Is character movement too responsive ?

I can imagine them doing something like that. And now that you mention it, I might have seen quite a few players do that Whatever happened to scouting the area for snipers with binocs? <_< For some reason, SA is becoming more and more of a bastardised version of the mod. I'm seeing a lot of weird differences between them that shouldn't be there (like the sudden KoS madness, which is completely not proportional with the mod).

Is character movement too responsive ?

Haven't really paid attention to that, though I have noticed that players sprint too much. Not sure about the random movements, but they sure do go way too fast.

Anyone else think DayZ should switch engines?

Is that as big and graphically demanding as Altis? I'm not familiar with that game, if it's just rendering the meteors and the spaceships it's not such a big deal
  9. Well, someone didn't read any of my posts. I stressed that chopper are to be realistic. As I said before, looking from a chopper doesn't grant you some sort of all-seeing bird's eye view. It's actually extremely challenging to even spot a group of people, unless they all wear bright purple clothing. Spotting a tent is even more challenging, naturally. This is how it should be, because that's how it is IRL. After all, there's a reason military exfils require smoke to be thrown to mark their position. If it's not there, the pilots won't go "Hey! There they are!" and land, but rather "Are those humans, or... just bushes? I can't see" and fly off. Also, I can't comprehend why you're so hellbent on destroying every chance of choppers getting featured in SA, while there's a simple way of fixing it, without adding an unrealistic balance to the mix.

Anyone else think DayZ should switch engines?

I don't think CryEngine 3 is made for huge open worlds (as big as Altis). For a demanding game like A3, they made a very nice engine

Who's idea was it to make spawns in Berezino?

Who's idea it was? Seems pretty obvious that they moved the spawns nearer to the new cities for us to test them for bugs
  12. That's a bold statement. I'd like to hear why not. Seems enough to me if choppers are relatively easy to take down with common weapons, made extremely difficult to fly and not as all-seeing as it was in the mod. And it isn't even balancing, because that's how choppers actually are supposed to be.
  13. Choppers shouldn't be able to see camps unless they're placed in an open field. It should be really difficult to spot a player from a chopper unless they're standing up in an open field. They should also be a lot more susceptible to all kinds of attacks, 7.62 should be a chopper killer and 5.56 a chopper mangler. Both 7.62 and 5.56 penetrate the chopper easily and can hit those inside from just about any angle. Yes choppers were "OP" compared to RL, so let's fix them instead of just getting rid of them. Choppers don't offer some sort of all seeing bird's eye view, it's actually quite difficult to spot a lone man or a small squad from a chopper unless they're running through an open field with hot pink shirts. And choppers are of course very easily damaged by fire. They're also extremely hard to fly compared to planes. Make them more realistic and your problem is solved. They're high-profile, weak means of transport. Yes they're fast, but once you try to land somewhere to pick up some buddies, every single player within a mile would be on you within a matter of seconds. They're not OP in any way, shape or form (if done right). So please, instead of getting rid of this nice addition to the game, try to make sure it's done right.

    Caves/ Tunnels

The problem is that everyone would want their camp there, which renders it useless. Self-made tunnels would be cool, as long as there's one per player I don't see any issues arising with it

    play dead ?

It won't work. They'll come to loot and check your pulse. Unless it's some sort of fully geared KoS guy who won't even bother confirming the kill (I doubt anyone wouldn't), it won't work. Snaking out of there is the best option and works better than it should lol
  16. From a business standpoint, the most profit is gained by finishing this game, making a name for themselves and receiving even more revenue from the next, etc. etc.

    Realistic player identification

From afar you shouldn't see the nametag, but when you get close enough (to the point where you would be able to see his face clearly IRL) his name should appear. There should also be an option to hide your name by wearing certain masks. This way you can identify friendlies you've met in the past and it should dumb down KoS at least a bit. However, you can now also identify your killers, which is of course a huge con.
  18. Point taken. Didn't think of that and that does in fact go on whenever a squad has a chopper in the air
  19. It never does... The one who survives hides all the bodies, always. Or at least takes the gear Helis never caused an unfairness in the mod and they won't in SA. You just have to not be a dumbass if you don't want helis to find your camps or kill you or even spot you
  20. I used to hide my camp in not so obvious places, but in places that are so dangerous for camps that nobody bothered to look there or ever think of hiding one there. I'm afraid I can't tell where it was because it hasn't been found to this day. I had 3 camps in that spot (in different servers, at the same time) and none were ever compromised. They disappeared because of updates and server shut downs. My longest surviving camp was about 3-5 months old before the server shut down. The character that owned the camp is still alive as well. Last time I checked I survived for 374 days. None of my camps were found in that period

After playing Take On Helicopters for 2 hours, I say YES to helos.

They were already too hard to control for kids in DayZ and Arma 2 also had specific players who'd pilot in domination and such (I loved to be the pilot). To make them even harder to control would do wonders. Nevermind finding the chopper, learning to fly in the first place would be difficult enough. Especially now that there is no Arma out there for some easy Heli lessons. Most wouldn't even touch helis if they found them and only specialised players would be able to control them.

KO'ing someone who's on the brink of death hardly makes you Bruce Lee

    Trouble with racist names

Yes. Every sensible person knows that it's just some immature kid giggling about the name on the other side of the screen, not some skinhead eager to kick you with his steeltip shoes. We should by no means accept these childish remarks, but being offended by some kid on the internet? It's meant to enrage or offend people, so don't endorse it by being just that. A swift kick (preferably a ban) should do the job just fine without the child ever having "fun" by offending others and thinking he's a cool "troll".
  24. One 7.62 shot and the chopper always left in the mod. They're defenceless if they don't know your exact position. In all my hours of playing the mod, I've been killed by a chopper once, and that includes all the "40 choppers" servers. I've seen plenty of them and owned plenty, they're not overpowered. My base was never found by one, because I think it's daft to even consider placing tents all the way up north or west. They were always found there, and not even by choppers. I've found more bases than I can count. On foot.

    The TANK Thread

You think they keep the hatch open at all times as a friendly invite for molotovs/grenades? And an IFV is an armoured vehicle, not a tank
