Is Dayz standalone even relevant anymore?
liquidsnake replied to 2gunz's topic in General Discussion
It'll always be, since this won't be a watered down mainstream game, but rather an anti-game which focuses on realism. The rest won't do this due to their goal of max revenue. That's my view on it, anyway -

There is no engine like SA's engine. It looks like A2 in terms of graphics and that's it. Vehicles, weapons, the entire movement system, ballistics, the inventory system, the clothing system. All is different to both A3 and A2. Maybe the graphics were taken from an existing engine, but that's hardly enough to say that it's just an existing engine minus unnecessary things. I'll tell you right now, that it most certainly took lots of work to build the engine. Work that needn't be spent on a mod. It's ridiculous to say that creating an entire game takes the same effort as making a mod. -

They had to make an entire engine, this time around. That's the difference. The engine is also in alpha. Naturally, it's a whole lot easier to build upon an existing engine than building one yourself and expanding on it from there. Cars were already there for the mod. Same for the movement system, weapons, ballistics, etc. You really should appreciate that the mod was a breeze compared to SA. And even the mod wasn't an easy task... -
What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?
liquidsnake replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I'm dying for the upper Gorka D uniform. Those are so awesome and look really apocalyptic. Also, remove those hideous Payday masks and replace them with balaclavas, bandanas (both face and head. And I mean the Rambo/Snake kind of head bandana, not what we already have) and shemagh scarves. Maybe some other stuff for RP, like pilot's uniforms and such. -
Today I captured some poor guy with an AK. I stalked him for a while and when he unexpectedly turned around I shot him and he fell unconscious. He sprayed in my general direction but luckily didn't land a single hit. I patched him up, gave him a saline bag IV and restrained him with cuffs. I had this idea of putting a burlap sack over my victim's head and making him run for his life, but since I didn't have one before I didn't get around to doing it. This was my first victim after I found the burlap sack, so he was supposed to be my first try on this. I first tried it by placing the sack into my hands, thinking there'd be some sort of option to pull it over his head. Nothing showed. Then I tried to replace his hat with the sack, but it also didn't work. It disappeared from my inventory, but the result was this: So, well, nothing. The burlap sack is supposed to be visible when placing it on someone's head, so something obviously went wrong. Has anyone succesfully placed a burlap sack on a victim or is it glitched? I was really disappointed that I couldn't try out my new evil plans and on top of that, the session was lost just when I was about to shoot. Now that poor guy is running around with cuffs :o Also, he weirdly was carrying two AKMs. Maybe some kind of loot glitch (stuff duplicates when taking off someone)? That didn't happen with the other guy I looted just now, though, or anyone I looted before. I also made a pic of that. The bottom rifle (left of his head) was my SKS, on top of it is his AKM and in my hand his other AKM:

Rubberbanding is pretty much fixed for me. I used to be stuck for 5 min, every 20 minutes. Now I have the occasional desync, where I transport back into a house once, instead of incessantly for 5 mins. Sometimes I get the session lost thing, but that also seems to have diminished a bit

If the security software is sound (which BattleEye is, though a bit outdated), yes. The game is alpha, not the banning software, so all is fine

BI aren't money-hungry enough for something like this

I apologise in advance for the following, but this is an alpha. This game isn't finished. The mod, though subject to change, was basically finished upon release. However, I have to agree that at this stage, the mods are more entertaining. I suggest returning to SA once some interesting features are added -
How to I put a burlap sack over someone's head?

Thanks for this, now I know why it didn't work. Next time I'll have to sexually harass my victim, I suppose  -
Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion
liquidsnake replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
Yes there has been. If I only find 2 SVD camo rifles, 2 M240 LMGs, 1 AT-4 rocket launcher and 3 M107s, since the beginning of the mod until now, I'd most definitely call them rare. There were just many duplicators/hackers who'd make certain weapons plentiful. Have you ever found a lot of AT-4 rocket launchers or M240 GPMGs? Those weren't popular amongst hackers, so chances are they were actually rare, unlike the AS50. -
I've found out that there are different hives right now, which didn't seem to be the case before. On experimental, all servers that hold 30 players are in one hive and all servers that hold 40 players are in another. You might want to check if you didn't just join a different hive. Don't know if it's the same on stable.

In 1PP, your vision is completely blocked, so the burlap sack can't be bypassed in hardcore servers. You'd be absolutely blind in hardcore. If you had the privilege of sacking someone, can you tell me how you did it? -
I skinned one yesterday. They're definitely the best animals in the game as of yet. The pelt takes up an incredible amount of space, though. And it's a deer, I believe

Zombies are too hard (defending my opinion)
liquidsnake replied to JosephHabib's topic in General Discussion
My only real issue with them is that they can hit you without being near you, due to desync. It happened too many times that I was looting, suddenly got hit a multitude of times, out of nowhere. You can run as far as you like, but it won't stop until you actually find the zed that's hitting you and kill it. Sometimes they hide pretty well  If they fix the desync and the wall clipping, they should up the amount of zombies so we finally have an actual challenge. I remember that looting NWAF in the mod was really irritating due to the high amount of zombies. You couldn't stand up without getting at least 7 zeds on your tail, and with that many on your tail looting barracks was crazy. You couldn't loot NWAF without either crawling through the entire place or shooting so many times that all of Chernarus knows where you are. That's how it should be -
Good to see some trusting players out there. Not carrying a weapon might be a bit naive, but hopefully it doesn't prove to be so. I see too many who stop trusting any player they see after their first time being betrayed. It's all part of the game. When I first started playing I was shot in the back 3-4 times before I learned not to give them that clear kill. Never, at least not until they're your Steam friend. After that, I literally never got shot in the back, while making plenty friends. Don't turn your back to them, keep an eye on them at all times. I can tell you that even fair players are tempted by an easy kill without any consequence, 99% will do it gladly. 85% of players who team up with you are indeed fair (though there is the odd bandit who'll kill you anyway). As long as they don't get a CLEAR shot on you (with you being defenceless as well), they'll be friendly. It's not the player who's bad, it's the temptation that does it.

I too am a huge MGS fan. Got all of the games. However, I don't think it'd work for SA. Maybe a special instant KO animation that only works when a player stands still for 2-3 secs and you're behind him the entire time would work. I don't see how intricate hand-to-hand combat can be implemented without any (perpetual) issues.

He probably wanted to kill you anyway. He should've waited for a better moment, that's all. You shouldn't feel bad in the least

I couldn't care less, but since I don't server hop I might as well reside in the yay camp -
What do you do when you're under siege?
liquidsnake replied to amiasfree's topic in General Discussion
I had an experience like it, just a few weeks ago. I ran into a barn and got shot by some guy on the 1st floor. I fired my full 1911 clip into his general direction to suppress him, since he had the drop on me and I'd be dead if he could land another hit. It worked and I made it to the boxes. Then, I basically just reloaded and waited, while looking for any possible way to get the upper hand. I ran from the far back stack of boxes to those under the stairs and waited for him to come down or take some cover for himself so I could make a swift getaway or shoot him. He chose to come down so I shot him in the chest, He bled so he ran out to bandage. I didn't feel like taking the chance to follow him, so I waited it out and he never returned. -
In the mod, a tent without an owner would disappear when a week had passed. I see nothing wrong with this mechanic, so I wouldn't want to change it

I think he meant moral reasoning. If he didn't, I'll bring forth that the part of the brain which causes you to be morally correct also doesn't develop until somewhere in your 20's.

It makes little sense to counter something unrealistic with something even less realistic. Even more so when the goal is to make a profoundly realistic game

This isn't about witch-hunting cheating, it's about your crooked view on it. Nevertheless, it's indeed end of story
