I tend to end up with mil gear, though I do make sure I like my look. I have also gone for civ looks a plethora of times. I'll always pick a nice hat over the helmet and I'll never drop a green raincoat.

Top quality hacking - prepubescent boy
liquidsnake replied to conan the librarian's topic in General Discussion
A few weeks ago I entered the NEAF jail after I heard an M4 shot. Carefully I cleared the building and surprisingly, no-one was there. However, on top on the stairs there were no less than 5 bodies laying face-down. Still alert, I checked the pulse of one of them. No pulse, warm to touch. Now in full alert mode, I noticed a player appearing down the hall, completely out of the blue. I quickly aimed and shot, shortly after he riddled me with 5.56 and ended me. I'm pretty proud that I actually managed to hit him, but he probably had god-mode anyway. For the life of me, I can't possibly understand why anyone would do this. Sitting somewhere, invisible and invincible, shooting players. Not only shooting players, but shooting them when you think they're looting and not even paying attention. It's the pinnacle of sadness. Only a pre-pubescent kid could find that entertaining. -
When Map Making comes, in the far far future, what will you make?
liquidsnake replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I just hope the map system is similar to that of A2/3, so we can port all the existing maps. I'm seeing some awesome ideas and even progress in here, though, so we might not even need it :D -
I do get your idea. It'd force players to grind certain things. If we go be your example of using the sewing kit, we'd get buddies shooting eachother with the .22 to damage gear and repair them for XP. We need a skill system which doesn't alter gameplay in any other way than making lives more valuable. Also, why not keep it simple and just attach a skill to a certain survival time, instead of an XP system which has to keep track of all sorts of things? Even the mod kept track of your survival time, and that was didn't even have a purpose. Sure, we'll get players who'll camp somewhere until they did their time, but that's just what we want: survivors, instead of mass-murdering goons with payday masks. I also believe that before this can be done, surviving on itself has to become difficult. Scarce food, detrimental weather, predators roaming the woods (which is the only viable food source through vegetables/fruit and hunting), etc. And on a side note, 95.44% is the area between -2 sigma and +2 sigma. For a population you should've taken the entire area left of +2 sigma, which is approx. 97.7% :)

It's not everytime that lots of people die. It's very possible that only a handful of players perished during your stay in Berezino and that they happened to spawn in other places than the one spawn you've been keeping an eye on. Even other spawns in Berezino would've been out of your sight
-
Rejoice! Berezino is freed from the gripping clutches of KoS. It's free for us to roam once again

More civillian clothing.. Less military
liquidsnake replied to maninthewall's topic in General Discussion
I concur. If military clothing would become rare, we'd see more partially camouflaged players. Kind of like a rag-tag guerrilla look, which fits an apocalypse perfectly. -
Put something heavy on your W key so you move infinitely, then go and do whatever you wanna do while waiting. Moving speeds up the starvation

More civillian clothing.. Less military
liquidsnake replied to maninthewall's topic in General Discussion
I solely wear military clothing because it holds more gear. The actual only reason. I wish there were some civilian clothing which holds as much as the best set of military clothing does. I love to wear civ clothing, but the restriction of carrying gear just gets to me -
The 24 hour ghillie suit was just a meaningless example. Still, I don't think it's possible to survive in a closet for 24h. At some point, seeking food/water will be a necessity. Even if you've collected enough food to last for 24h, you've been scavenging for quite some time before. And btw, 2 sigma is 94%.
-
I don't agree with your proposition, but you're on the right track. My view: gain skills for surviving. No matter who you kill, what you have, how you play. Just survival. For example, survive for 24 in-game hours to gain the ability to make a ghillie suit. There should also be an amazing skill which you receive after a ridiculous survival time, as the ultimate goal for every survivor. This makes every single spawn valuable. This makes you cling to your life, rather than to your gear. This will make players' behaviour realistic, at last. If you manage to hold up a player, he'll do all he can to live, not to assure you get the least gear out of it. There will be the odd suicidal maniac or KoS'er looking for action, but they'll be realistically scarce. The idea on itself isn't unrealistic either. If you, as a mere civilian, are dropped into a hellish world without any order, you'll learn to survive. You'll become a better survivor, over time.

Dye for clothing and a wider selection of spray paint.
liquidsnake replied to shaunsap's topic in Suggestions
I like this, since self-dyed clothing/backpacks will look very fitting in an apocalypse. Especially the dyed rucksacks -
This happened to me recently: DayZ stopped working - restart the game - spawning in 99 secs - indefinite "please wait" - DayZ stopped working - restart the game - spawning in 99 secs - session lost - spawning in 99 secs Needless to say, that sucked major donkey balls

Loot Availability discussion: Reality
liquidsnake replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
They're not previously used by BI. A2 used an entirely different clothing system. I should even say that there wasn't a clothing system at all. Nothing could've been copy-pasted. Thus, BI created the berets and various clothing from scratch. If they didn't mean to add them, they could've simply not mentioned the Chedaki in the description. They could've refrained from adding the US flag patch to the combat jacket easily. Especially the UK vest could've simply been called combat harness or something. Instead, they wilfully added all of those things. Therefore, we can conclude that the Chedaki exists, the UK/US/German forces were there (supposedly as UN) and also that Russian forces were present during and perhaps after the outbreak. This is supposed to be our story, but there are also irrefutable facts. -
what gives you most satisfaction?

Walking away as the victor from fights I should've lost. That or just random badassery. The crown currently goes out to one of my experiences in the mod. I was out looking for camps, this time in Black Forest. I saw a weird mark on the map somewhere so I figured someone might use it to identify the location of their camp. And sure enough, I find a V32S (a truck). However, when I approached I heard the reload sound. Whoever owned this camp was there are possibly knew of my presence. I couldn't see him/them, since they were at the other side of the truck. Since I had my Mk.48, I uttered "here goes nothing" and peeked with my LMG at the ready. I couldn't believe what I saw... 4 ghillies sitting around a campfire, one was standing and facing me (the reloader I assumed), so, well, LIGHT 'EM UP. I got out of it with one 5.56 in my leg and 5 dead ghillies. I loaded the truck as full as I could and swiftly made my way to my own camp. This falls under random badassery B) My only experience in SA worth mentioning is killing 3 players in the jail, but meh. I entered the jail, popped some guy who was peeking down from the 1st floor with my sawn off, looted him, noticed some guy peeking up from downstairs and made a clean HS with my .357, then some guy got blown away by my B95 upon opening the doors -
Loot Availability discussion: Reality

Are you kidding me? The UN (US, Germany and UK, to our knowledge), Russia and the CDF were staioned in Chernarus. Supposedly in great numbers. They supposedly also all diminished and it's known that the survivors are 1% of Chernarus' population (and Chernarus isn't densely populated, mind you). That leaves armies worth of weaponry to be picked up by the few that survived. Now I have to say that there is a chance that the UN/Russia fell back after a certain amount of time, but it's safe to say that the entire CDF army perished in Chernarus. That leaves, what? 50 AKMs per head? 10 or more KVSKs per head? And that's without the UN, Russia and civilian or even police firearms. If anything, there should be more guns. Broken down helicopters should spawn 4 AKS74Us, roughly 20 AKMs and a few SVDs, that should cover every victim in the crash. Run down supply trucks should spawn 50 AKMs, 20 SVDs and 10.000 rounds for each. Etc. -
What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?
liquidsnake replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
You mean restricting the player from equipping unless prone? That might work, but even the equip anim would need changing with the size of this gun. With any of the other anims, the gun would be clipping through everything. I still think it can only be done with special anims -
In the mod I always played lone wolf, but always tried to make friends. Fully geared players I killed, but moderately or ungeared players I tried to befriend. In SA, befriending anyone is well-nigh impossible, so I try to mainly hold up. Mostly I just rob and let go, but if you try anything, appear extremely hostile or refuse to speak to me, I'll think of a nice way to end your life. I wont force-feed, break legs & leave or any of that stupid stuff, though. I have played as a hero, giving players some high-end gear, but lately I just rob/kill. Mainly because of the response I get when robbing, but oh well, I suppose I can be called a bandit.

@Gibonez I love that weapon, but there's one problem. It's huge, perhaps even as long as our in-game char is tall. They'd have to make special anims, just for this gun. I hope they'll be up for it, because this indeed is the perfect AT rifle for DayZ on pretty much all counts. I doubt BI is willing to go through so much effort for one rifle, though. -
Yuo did good, OP. That was a true act of banditry, rather than just some more of that boring, talentless KoS. You even gained his trust and betrayed him after. Nice one, that's pure DayZ right there  I would've probably done various things to him for cussing like that, but to each their own. I usually let my victims go, but I'd send this one straight to hell.

Shooting and you ... or me as example
liquidsnake replied to TyrDaishi's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like they got a lot of work to be done on ballistics. It's a shame, because it should be the first thing on their to-do list -
Is Dayz standalone even relevant anymore?
liquidsnake replied to 2gunz's topic in General Discussion
This isn't about alpha/beta stages. You seem to be evading the entire argument. My previous post explains the difference between the mod and SA, which is that SA requires triple the work that the mod did. Good games generally take around 5 years to complete, typically. I said it before and will say it again: the mod was a breeze compared to SA. The mod already had an engine, on which BI themselves had worked on for over 5 years. SA, however, has to build it entirely. How can you possibly compare the two, in terms of development time? A pre-existing engine is quite the difference -
Maybe he just ran away. I've had plenty encounters that left both me and my adversary crippled and apart. I might even say that those are the best clashes there are. It's plausible that he didn't know where you were and shot at wherever he thought the fire was coming from and, smartly, evacuated. I know I'd get the hell out of there if I got ambushed like that. I've gotten greedy before and 90% of the times it leads to your death if you return for their loot.

That's exactly my experience for the past week or so. Until today. That patch they released really did it for me. On experimental btw. Hopefully the rubberbanding will be eradicated for everyone with the next patch
