Today I experienced something that shows the good side of KoS. It all started 2 days ago, when I spawned in Three Valleys, south of Solnichniy. I was stoked about finally spawning close(ish) to Elektro and leaving that KoS cesspit in Berezino behind me. I went inland and looted all the little towns on my way to Elektro. I ended up with a Mosin and a crossbow. Elektro seemed unlooted and I entered the police station. I always make sure I know what's happening in my surroundings so I spotted a semi-fresh spawn strolling into the offices as I gazed out from the top of the police station. I normally don't mind other playersin the same town and avoid them, but nevertheless I decided I should kill him, considering he'd probably go the same road as I was planning: Elektro-Cherno-Balota. He would become competition for the loot and I wasn't fond of that. He climbed the stairs to the top of the offices. The perfect kill, I thought. I aimed carefully and fired my Mosin. To my great dismay I saw the bullet land somewhere else. That damn cone of fire of course. He swiflty made his way down from the ladder (in the process, I missed another shot which should've been on target). He got away and I decided to leave Elektro and meet him in Cherno, since he seemed to have vanished from under the sun. I had two primaries at that point, so halfway there I spotted him behind me, not knowing of my presence. I wasn't in a good shooting position, so I stalked him. I figured he'd loot the barn and meet his end there, by my hand. However, he ran considerably faster than I did, due to having one primary and I lost him. He would've still been in my sight if he went to the barn, which was my plan, but he went straight for Cherno. I decided to skip Cherno and loot Balota, so all the good stuff would be mine while he was looting Cherno. I was pleased to find Balota unlooted and all to myself (and that in a server with 40 players). I left Balota content, with my brand new engraved 1911 and some other stuff. I looted the town and made my way to the barn. I had dropped my Mosin by then, because I was only carrying it to kill the guy, I was planning to make my way up to Zelenogorsk and RP being a survivor with a measly .22 rifle. I was going to survive as long as possible instead of going PvP. As I said, I try to be as aware of my surroundings as possible, so I spotted someone standing at the top of the barn while moving inside. He clearly was expecting me and got a hit on me. I already had my 1911 sights on him and recklessly fired the entire clip at him while making my way to cover. The suppression worked and he missed and went for cover. I peeked around the corner to find the very same guy I shot at in Elektro. I knew something like this was bound to happen if he lived. He made his way down and I managed to shoot him in the chest with my 1911. He had his SKS on me as well so I didn't dare go for a second shot. He responded to this by fleeing outside. I wasn't sure if he was bleeding so I waited it out and left the barn for Zelenogorsk when I didn't hear anything for the next 10-15 minutes. I finally made my way to Zelenogorsk and hoped the guy was still in Balota, since there's more loot there of course. I found Zelenogorsk unlooted as well and went nuts with all the loot. Still only had my crossbow, 1911 and Amphibia. I proceeded to loot the garages behind the Police Station and that stupid glitch which incessantly unequips my 1911 or any handgun started acting up. I made my way into the house with the small corridor, with my crossbow out as my only option. It's one of those low loot houses so I didn't bother clearing it as I normally do. Yet, there he sits. The same damn guy, expecting me with his SKS out. In that little room alongside the corridor. I knew I was a goner and tried to aim for the head with my crossbow (only way to kill him), but as soon as the crosshair met with his head, I already had a 7.62 in my guts and fell to the floor. The same guy... This is why sometimes, KoS is the way to go. In the end, you might end up killed by the very guy you had in your sights a day ago. If you know he's gonna go the same route as you are, put one in his head. GG to the guy who killed me.

Why KoS is the way to go in certain cases

Shotgun* :D -
I don't want to see any more of those useless little towns. I love Svetloyarsk and Cherno Polana or whatever, but right now I think variety is key to spreading the players over the map. I'd prefer to see more unique venues, like Rify, scattered accross the north. Be it an abandoned nuclear plant or a crashed plane, I don't really care. Just want to see more uniqueness.

I stopped wearing helmets. I'll take the chance of getting headshotted in exchange for better camo and looking less smug. For some reason helmets make players look smug.

He never saw before I entered the barn, where he opened fire first. @ref it's not so much having all the loot for myself as continuously having some guy in the neighbourhood who's bound to run into me and perhaps shoot me. Being together in one town is no problem for me. I just avoid players then. But when I know some guy's gonna be dangerously close throughout my trip from elektro to zelenogorsk, he'll have to die. @Kimo Some of the paragraphs stuck together after I posted. I seperated them now, hope it makes for a better read -
I recall they said it was practically done and needed a bit of tweeking (or something along those lines). At any rate, next update will bring the AKM and AK-74. Haven't heard anything about the chainsaw, though.

Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
liquidsnake replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
The shock would be so profound that it could cause death. If you're completely oblivious to any danger and get shot in the foot, you can go into shock and actually die. -
They've come quite far in experimental. No more OHK axe, it takes as long as punching them to death on stable, regardless of the weapon. You're gonna have to shoot them now, which attracts more of them and not to mention, players. They're a real pain in the ass, but no threat. Groups of 5+ zombies would probably make zombies extremely lethal for anyone without a firearm and mag/clip. Seems enough to me

If you figure it out, delete this post, 'cause I suspect this isn't the right section for it

This is how dumb punching is in this game.
liquidsnake replied to shaeg's topic in General Discussion
That's why he said it, genius. Because they're NOT special he can use them as an example. OT: We need some kind of damage boost when attacking oblivious players from behind, in combination with a fist nerf. -

If you think about it, if you get behind a fully geared soldier IRL with nothing but your bare hands, you should be able to do some serious damage if not kill him. Punching is still retarded in this game, tho -
Are worn/damaged/badly damaged food items going to mean anything in the future?
liquidsnake replied to extremenuggets's topic in General Discussion
You can't eat ruined food, tested today. IMO, damaged, etc. means that the package is damaged and/or the food has been crushed and ruined means the package is leaking and/or the food got contaminated with something you don't want to eat. -
Full auto shotguns in the game now? With 100 magazine capacity?
liquidsnake replied to Zeronium's topic in General Discussion
Heard a similar thing just now. I heard like 7-10 shotgun shots without reloading. -
The old M1911 is the best of them all, but I also think 3 M1911s is a bit too much. Voted yes anyway.

An overly irritating guy happened to be black, that's all.

I've yet to encounter a hacker. I've seen players do some weird shit, but no hackers (I think)
-
I always KoS when inside a building. I just feel like I have way less strategic options in a tight space like that and that makes me feel uncomfortable when encountering players. I probably would've done the same, and I have in a few similar situations. Buildings are death traps with all their ambush potential. I always clear the building and shoot anything that lives before I even look at the loot. Once, this resulted in a dead survivor, but many more times I left a dead bandit behind in buildings. Sometimes the innocent die, just get over it and enjoy your new shiny gear.

I found the same thing just yesterday. In an experimental server, Svetloyarsk, a civie house, on top of a closet. Maybe it's the same one and someone dropped it there?

Well, ran into my first hacker tonight. So obvious too.
liquidsnake replied to wmike20052's topic in General Discussion
If he was hacking, you wouldn't have been able to combat log without getting killed again -
Having the limp animation for 12 hours after fixing a broken leg would be pretty rad
-
Should've said you're a medic before he entered. Nevertheless, you weren't wrong for shooting someone who KNEW you were inside and decided to go in guns drawn anyway. Definitely something fishy about that. I think you would've ended up shooting him eitherway.

I once hid so well that another player crouched in front of me (there was a body , four feet away from me, which he was checking) and he didn't notice at all. I remember actually aiming at his head, but I met him earlier and he was a nice guy so I ended up not shooting him. Two pine trees right next to eachother = perfect hiding spot.

RIP Berezino

I miss sitting at my camp at dusk and talking to random people. Occasionally I'd grab my car and go help one of them. I understand why it's not gonna come back, though. Walkie talkies should be really common and work exactly like side chat (with an option to turn off), no limited range and no new batteries needed. That way we can have a somewhat realistic side chat.

Carrying two primary Weapons without having one everytime in the hands
liquidsnake replied to Colle's topic in General Discussion
This. I think something like an extra (leg) holster that holds weapons up to a certain length (so basically pistols, sawed off shotgun, certain SMGs). Doesn't have to be rare, IMO.
