Discussion on the "Hide body" option
liquidsnake replied to LortFengerN's topic in General Discussion
This. Dragging a body to a secluded spot where it can't be found, ruining it all yourself by axing the body, I don't care. As long as it's not a magical hide button or a tactically unrealistic thing only a halfwit would consider doing (burning bodies after attracting every bandit in the vicinity by firing a weapon). Denial of resources is a proper technique, but the means mustn't be unrealistic. I'd love to see axing until everything is ruined and dragging. -
What brought you to say that helicopters is something only CoD kiddies want? That actually doesn't make any sense and I doubt you have anything to support that.

I'm all for this. Corpse runs don't belong in DayZ, but finding bodies most definitely does. Dragging is the answer IMO. -

Respawning at the coast and magically knowing where a geared body lies can't be fixed by anything besides a memory eraser. They can't stop this from happening, nor can they 'fix' it by having bodies disappear. Does it make sense to counter an unrealistic part of the game by adding another even less realistic feature? It doesn't, especially if your goal is to create a realistic game. If the response to one unrealistic aspect is to add another, does it not make the game even less realistic than it already was? It almost sounds like balancing, on par with CoD's alterations of gun stats, which the devs loathe. Furthermore, the added feature of finding the aftermath of a bloody firefight more than compensates for that minor unrealistic factor. (disclaimer: I have never done a corpse run in SA) A burned body is undoubtedly a horrifying thing to see. However, typically, bodies are used to scare when mutilated, hanged, have severed bodyparts on display, have the skeleton on display, and more. Burned bodies on display, with the intent of scaring others is a rarity. -

That's an entirely different thing. We're talking about burning bodies with the intent of destroying gear. No rational survivor/bandit would do this. Dragging them to your camp and hanging them would be awesome, to scare people away. Definitely something a bandit would do. Nobody burns a body to scare people away, they hang or mutilate them. -
My ideal run is Elektro - Cherno - Balota - Zelenogorsk - Vybor - NWAF Sometimes I stop by the base between Balota and Zelenogorsk and sometimes I go to NEAF from NWAF. If I spawn in Berezino, it's Berezino - Svetloyarsk - Cherno Polana - NEAF - (NWAF)

Damn right they don't. I get where the cone originated from, but they overdid it tremendously. When compensating for recoil you adjust the aim of the gun, but your adjustment won't be exactly where you aimed before, thus creating a group of hits. It kinda resembles a cone if you think about it, but that cone is created by your own accuracy with the gun. Right now, this cone of fire is created by the mechanical accuracy, which is ridiculous. They never should've fiddled with the gun's accuracy, but rather with the player's accuracy. The gun should really just move into a random direction (slightly) after firing, to simulate recoil. For example, after the first shot, the barrel should move 1/4 of an inch to any direction. This would cause legit groups of fire, and not outrageous ones we have now

All mechanics should have a proper use. It makes no sense to add something that is plain stupid and pointless, just because it's possible to IRL. By that logic, options like dancing and singing in the middle of Cherno should be added, because it's possible IRL. There just is no point in doing it. Not only is it pointless, it's also suicidal. Things that profit nobody in any way or don't fit the behaviour of a survivor should be omitted from the game. Burning bodies is pointless, benefits virtually no one and definitely isn't something a survivor would do after a firefight, or at any time for that matter. Thus, it shouldn't be a feature Btw, I remember that topic and I actually posted the same thing about the two channels. In my post I meant pointless, meaningless screams. -
Anyone at the lighthouse at Komorovo?
liquidsnake replied to TheLoneSurvivior's topic in General Discussion
I remember as well. Lots of players didn't even bother and committed suicide  I always ran to the factory and then Balota - Cherno - Elektro - NWAF -
It's the semi auto accuracy I'm worried about. Is that in the game's files by any chance? I heard the M4 is a whole lot more accurate when turned to semi auto. Firing one shot in full auto is less accurate than firing one shot in semi auto, which is of course ridiculous. It'll serve me well with the AKM, though

Komorovo? Not a soul, not before the Berezino spawns and most certainly not after. I would come if I was still in Balota, but sadly I have long left that place -

I'm afraid realism and burying bodies don't go well together. -

Then let's add in the ability to yell sporadically and attract every (un)living thing in the vicinity. Just as stupid as burning bodies opposed to dragging them, which is the sane thing to do. Also, don't forget that the game is supposed to be realistic. No survivor/bandit would burn bodies just so the next guy can't loot it. Hiding it, however, yes -
I think the CDF couldn't handle the situation and NATO recaptured some of their bases. Seems plausible

True Reason For East-Coast Spawns? Map Expansion?

Would be great. No need to ever loot a town again. Walk through a nearby forest and leave armed to the teeth -
It'll never sounds as good as "Anyone in Cherno?" :(

I remember there was a sleeping option at tents in the mod, which lasted about 20-30 secs. That or it was manually stoppable at any time, don't remember. I wouldn't mind to have that in SA, with a slight boost to health. There could be a sleep bar next to the hunger/thirst bar, which increases sway when you don't sleep for an entire day (maybe like 6 hours of gameplay, logging off doesn't count).

Looting bodies should be a good way of getting geared. Bandit leftovers are the best way to get geared. And you're saying that isn't a profoundly daft thing to do? You already revealed your position by firing a gun, stuck at the body to loot it, tried to set fire to the body (is harder than you think) and expect to NOT be tracked or even spotted running away from the body (they were already searching for you so chances are they're in the area, thanking you for sparing them the challenge of pinpointing your position before you leave). You're not gonna want them to know where the body is before you left to maximise the distance between them and you. The more distance, the harder it is to track. Hell, a 13 year old kid could track you if there's only 5 minutes between you, which there will be if everyone knows your position upon leaving. -
In the mod it was considerably difficult to keep the AK on target when engaging in full auto (as it should), so I used semi auto at all times. I'll do the same in SA for sure.

I was looting the prison when I heard footsteps, so I froze in front of the door with my SKS at the ready. I was sitting a little to the back, near the corner, with my sights on the door. It opens and I opened fire, my sights being on the guy at all times. I fired long before he did (he had an M4) and I had the more powerful rifle. I gazed at my screen in disbelief as none of my carefully aimed fire registered. Halfway my clip, he started shooting and his fire did register. When my clip was emty I just sat there, astounded. A few seconds later I was dead, with my only solace being that he probably died from my shots later.

The tactic is valid, but it's the means that make it or break it. Killing someone, alerting every survivor in the vicinity in the process, and then proceeding to dig a grave (takes hours) or basically signal everyone where you are by burning it makes no sense whatsoever. Take the gear and hide it, or take the body and hide it. The only viable options for a sane man. -
NATO forces were present, and perhaps Russians were as well. This brings me to believe that the infection started in Chernarus, why else would NATO be there? The setting is 2013-2014, considering the gear (some M4 parts are brand new). It was a contagious virus and it was airborne, since all the survivors are immune (devs said this). Further, nothing can be said

The last thing I am is a supporter of "hiding" bodies. Just the thought of endorsing a feature that makes bodies vanish like dust in the wind makes me sick. It's supposed to be a realistic apocalypse setting for crying out loud. They said that we won't be having any of those "what happened here" scenarios where you find bodies and ask yourself what occured (as seen in many apocalypse themed media), they stressed these situations were to be created by actual players and their endeavours. What could possibly possess them to think that making bodies magically disappear would aid that? I want to run into bodies and wonder what preceded my arrival. I want finding bodies to be a good thing, they need to hold gear. Looting or scavenging is what this game revolves around to some extent, yet they stop us from doing so. Finding bodies has to be a rather joyful event, like coming across a crash site was in the mod. Realistically, what could possibly bring someone to waste hours by digging a grave or burning a body for no apparent reason? Just to prevent the next guy from finding some gear, you want to spend hours of exposing yourself to danger, you just alerted every survivor out there by firing a gun and you stay on the crime scene? Dragging, however, would be viable. Takes little time, is pretty effective. That and it enables players to actively search for them (which in turn adds to gameplay). Imagine uncovering the victims of a Berezino psychopath. Also, it needs to be said that I don't corpse run and that my ideas were formed by finding multiple bodies, just to uncover that they're "hidden". And I may or may not have accidentally hidden one of my victims while I was looting :D TL;DR if you for whatever reason don't want others to find the gear, take the damn gear (keep it, hide it, who cares). Finding bodies adds a great deal to gameplay. Moreover, burning/burying the body is a waste of time and leaves yourself exposed, thus it's the ridiculously unrealistic thing to do for anyone outside of the world of tactical dimwits.
