If I had my hands in this mod (updated server jumping fix)
LastShenanigan replied to Carl Weathers's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Enemies unqiue to specific areas would be cool in general. -
Really? The US is the place you feel that holds the most intorerance towards gays? When is the last time you visited, 1946?.

Does anyone actually read the updates section? A lot of issues people seem to be complaining about are known and being addressed in the rolling updates, i.e. zombie difficulity and item spawns. Many players are bringing these things up in the bugs forum. Give it until this version of the Alpha is a little more stable before you start declaring things gamebreaking features that'll chase away all the players.

Pretty convinced everyone is a bandit.

love fallout, but I don't think the idea translates as well to dayz. Though I'd love unstoppable deathclaw like creatures that murder anyone they come across in the woods.

Killing me with kindness with Update thoughts
LastShenanigan replied to loydmilligan's topic in New Player Discussion
I think the difficulty lies in trying to identify a new player from a respawned player. Might be something to look into. If you had done this for me however, we would be best friends for life. -
I think instead of adding melee weapons just the ability to tackle an individual would help. I've seen it suggested before and now that you don't spawn with a weapon it'd be even more useful. Players who haven't found a gun yet can lure other players into a room, tackle them and knock them out. Gives them time to run away or even grab some of the other persons items out of their bag. Could probably even be used as a non lethal way to rob people. It could also function semi the same on single zombies with the exception of being able to kill a single zombie while tackling it and hitting it in the head with a rock. I think the ability to murder using it would have to be limited to just zombies though. Just some food for thought really, I like not spawning with a weapon. A gun in dayz is a dramatic advantage, one that shouldn't be handed to you when you start. Before, you pretty spawned with everything you needed to survive, it seemed like too much. I'd really like to see the stats of how often players starve to death... probably not often.

The Psychology behind taking a life (long read)
LastShenanigan replied to Theonerayman's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That was really well thought out, an interesting read all around. You even kept me up past when I wanted to go to sleep heh. I'll try and add to the discussion as best I can. Police officer, Military personnel... these people are part of a society. They receive therapy to help them cope because for our entire lives we're taught its wrong to kill another person. We want them to remain strong and dedicate to that society even though what they may have done goes against it's principals. I'm not saying I don't think "bandits" could suffer from P.T.S.D. but the behavior they exhibit existed long before society did. In a sense it still exists today in places which do not value human life and see it only as a resource. I'd also like to point out I draw a huge line between the people who kill other players simply because they spawn with a pistol, and those who kill others because they're starving and don't trust a stranger enough to ask him for something to eat. Also it is easy to forget that a large amount of "bandits" belong to tightly knit groups that only cooperate amongst themselves, shooting any stranger they deem is a threat or has something the group could use. In the long run the real issue with you idea is that we all realize we're players and no one dies permanently in dayz. Adding some sort of "sanity" feature onto the game would be nothing more then a meta-game. Like humanity before the change, players would simply use whatever means they can to bring it back up to healthy levels before they go player hunting. You can't force a player who spawns with a gun and food to seek the company of others. They need to be trapped in a small building with a broken leg, no ammo left and a real reason to fear respawning before they'd call out for help. They could meet their new best friend. Or their opinion of other players in Dayz could fall even further when the person who arrives is not there to save them. I guess that could be our real problem with cooperating willingly with strangers, we all remember what happened to us before we respawned. -
Weird! Jim just started his first thread here on the forums. Apparently... after being murdered once, he feels that the mod is turning into COD/BF/CS/AVP/HALO/Goldeneye/UT/DOOM/COD AGAIN/QUAKE/Duck Hunt?Killzone/Gears/Duke Nukem Death Match.

People always seem to forget that bandits also comes in teams. Do they get to keep their AKs on respawn because they were team players? -

Kidnapping/ Slave Trafficking/ Cannibalism?
LastShenanigan replied to dalgcais's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So instead of "waiting for server response" i'll be "waiting for cannibals to eat you"? It's an interesting idea sure enough, but implementing tons of ways for players to immobilize and capture each other could lead to abuse. Which will lead to captured players just logging out. As of right now, a well armed group can ambush another player and demand he drop his gear. This can be a lot more tense then someone simply shooting you with a rubber bullet and tying you up. If there were dedicated private servers where the same people played against each other every day and were comfortable playing "enemies" I could see this working. Otherwise we'll just have immature people tying up recently spawned players just for the fun of it. Which I don't feel is any more acceptable then the players demanding bandits be punished for being bandits. It'd be great if it were implemented well, you'd just have to accept some people don't want to play along.. and those who alert their friends on TS that they were just kidnapped kind ruining the rp. -
Never had any issues on your servers. Murders seem to be fairly rare also.

I would like vending machines in front of stores and inside offices that I can shake to try and get soda out of. It makes a lot of noise and leaves me open to getting shot in the dome. -
First step should be in this direction...
LastShenanigan replied to Sveglia's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This idea has been suggested before. "Bandits" don't exist anymore. Murders are not as common as some people would make them. No play style should be punished with the intent to promote another. PVP is intended, a lot of people seem to think otherwise. I can't even begin to understand how this would be "fun" game mechanics and I am NOT a "bandit". I award you NO points and may god have mercy on your soul. -
Cigarettes to calm down ?
LastShenanigan replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So they'll get tired faster, cough a lot more and zombies can smell the nearby smoke? It's interesting though I don't think a cigarette should have anywhere near the effects of actual painkillers. They calm you down when you're stressed, not going into shock. -
This is the only suggestion that I, will 100% endorse. You'll be a sitting duck for anyone with a rifle though.
-
I like this idea but all the payoffs appear to be things that make the game easier. Also, we'll have the influx of people essentially "trading skills". Finding someone who has what they need and then just waiting around with each other. Do these skills reset on death? How does this benefit solo survivors? I know people who learned everything there is to know about cars, just by fidgeting with their own. I don't see the point of a cooking skill. While skills can be taught, it's not impossible for someone stuck alone in the wilderness to pick these skills up on their own.

Problem being what happens when they finish those objectives... oh right... they get bored and start death matching.

DayZ has become Deathmatch / Team Deathmatch
LastShenanigan replied to underpaidorphan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Only ever had to kill one person, only been killed a few times. I often talk to other survivors in chat. I've noticed it's always the guys who announce where they are and ask if anyone is looking to group up who die 2 minutes later... and again 2 minutes after that. Global chat disappearing will solve a lot of problems. Bandits will get bored of not know where everyone is. Sadly I'm worried that the same people who complain about being killed will then complain there is no way to group up. What will we demand then, a dungeon finder? This mod is still evolving and while voicing your ideas on how to improve it is necessary, most people are coming on to the forums to say things like "COD gameplay". Simply asinine, either come up with a constructive way to improve what you don't like WITHOUT punishing any particular play style... or return to the singleplayer/co-op game of your preference. If you die in a particular spot, DON'T run back to that spot. Suggesting we FORCE everyone to play co-op because a few people can't avoid the city campers is crazy talk. I more often then anything, bump into another player who was scavenging the same little town as me. We both see each other, both people raise their guns. We slowly back away from each other. We either never see each other again, or talk about how close that was once we're both out of sight. This has even led to teaming up, which feels incredibly natural. Much more so then running around a major town yelling "FRIENDLY?!". The pkers have realized where the easiest places are to find the easiest targets. People need to realize this. This is an ALPHA, most everyone who plays is aware of that. Most people are not going to try and hunker down and outlive the apocalypse. Eventually, an update will reset them and their items. This makes people much less interested in "playing the mod correctly". You can increase zombies to 4k per server, this could backfire on you and make players who aren't good scavengers even more desperate to kill someone. This is a VERY delicate subject, give them an inch and they could take a mile. If the people who can't figure out how avoid the murders now get their way and survive for 7 days at a time. They'll be all the more angry when someone kills them and takes everything they've collected over those past 7 days. At the end of the day everyone has their method of survival. If you're dying often, yours doesn't work. -

Skill is extremely hard to measure in any game designed for people with short attention spans. :dodgy: -
What does the female gender model look like? (mhm)
LastShenanigan replied to JuniorD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Solution 1: Aim for the T & A. Solution 2: Require all players who choose the female model to submit a pdf containing a photocopy of their license, link to their facebook page, cell phone number, measurements, most recent intimate experience and a sports bra of at least 6 months old. :D Seriously though this could work itself out if Rocket added something in the future like "female characters take 10% more melee damage." Then all the guys who picked it just to get a minor leg up will go "WAAAHH". And girls have notoriously bad aim. /end sexism
