Maybe Zebras. Or nothing, and then just call it Day.

I'll just repost this here too, if its ok. I think it's the best example of a fix for the TPV exploit yet: Relevant part about 14mins in

I think the only way boarded up houses would work would be if they had to be constantly maintained, so it became a daily job. Otherwise I think you would find the majority of houses boarded up on a busy server as has been said... Also there would have to be a way of entering them by other players (obviously you wouldnt be able to board up high value loot spawns) so it seems a little pointless to me. Maybe if only certain house types (or even only one type) could be boarded.

I'd prefer the ability to make a lean-to in the forest which behaves like a tent, all the player would need would be an axe and rope.

If I understand it correctly, that was because the mod was a mod of ARMA2 which is how these things could be added, if the Standalone is essentially a new game then I would think what admin on private hives can do would be limited. I could be wrong here though.

There was a small patch, check your firewall application control for DayZ? Worked for me
-
Your favourite thing about the Standalone so far?

I like hitting stuff with axes and the zombie rabbits -
I enjoyed playing on private servers on the mod and look forward to them appearing for the SA, so long as they are easy to pick out from the public hive servers. I avoid modded versions of the vanilla game but if people want to play on them then thats fine, I don't believe it affects the vanilla game in any way. If they are regulated properly then I don't see any issue with them at all, the benefits of no ghosting or sever hopping had a massive positive impact on my enjoyment of DayZ too.

I'm going for a hybrid, if you do you have to make sure that the mechanical disk is 7200RPM spin speed for it to be faster than a standard HDD (some use a 5400RPM HDD, I think for laptops though)

I think more people to try FPV servers every now and then can only be a good thing.

This seems like a good option to me, something along these lines should solve everyones issues.

I believe that if this situation happened, it would come about from mans quest to prolong life.

In reality, I would imagine that the human race would not survive. It's obviously dependant on the 'rules' of the situation, but I think there are a number of things to consider: Initially these are not monsters but people and in some cases friends or family. This is how it spreads quickly, as 'infected' people are hidden/protected/moved around by their loved ones who ignore the approaching inevitable change. Assuming the change is not too quick to be easily quarrantined but not too slow to be controlled, I think it would spread before the officials knew what was happening. Then there are the sheer numbers - Imagine how crowded towns are during the christmas shopping period. This is with the majority of people still indoors, very soon the streets would be filled and homes empty as people try to flee. As already said the cities would be inaccessable. As time goes on the situation will always favour the undead, disease will spread and kill, humans will die and more zombies will be created. People will try to survive but will all die eventually no matter how many guns they have or how well they think they are prepared, one slip up will be enough and the dead will show no mercy. The military and rescue services will go early on as they are in direct contact with the zombies but also expected to protect civilians, some of whom would be 'infected'. with no organisation, humans would be reduced to small pockets facing overwhelming numbers of undead which would be drawn towards them and the places they need to scavenge around. With no electricity, potential fallout from nuclear reactor meltdowns, diseases running rife and constant pressure from billions of animated rotting corpses it would truly be hell on earth. I think that if the 'rules' were optimal, then it would be a global extinction within months. :) I would head for water for the best chances.

I think he's a bit lost... and something's missing lol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerne_Abbas_giant

Lost my equipment again changing servers looking for nightime, sixth time now and not died in game once!

Depends on where you hit with the splitting axe, it can take two hits.

Why not make 5.56 ammo spawnable around Humvee and military truck wrecks as they're all over the place? Not weapons, just the ammo maybe in small amounts and the odd mag. I think that would be plausable and ammo spawn rate could even be reduced at the military areas. Didn't read this, good idea though :)
-
This is the best idea, people can have a character on each hive then and play both view types. I'm trying to get used to FPV only servers at present, but still won't want to lose TPV ones so two hives I think is the best way.
-
It should say on the server name, (3dp off) I think.
-
Also a version of the Overlook Hotel up north (just been watching The Shining :o )

Do you need a speedloader for the Magnum, or can you load the bullets straight in? Also, does it fit in the chest holster? Looking forward to ditching my automatic for one :)

That's the thing, I think players who want to use FPV only are predominately interested in PvP (as it's the PvP part of the game that is affected) so they don't want to go on servers with no players on to fight. It seems to be kind of a 'Catch 22' situation which then leads to these empty FPV only servers changing back to being 'both view mode' servers... I hope this doesn't happen to the SA, but it really is up to people who want FPV only to make it happen I think and I hope they read this. I for one don't think there's any reason for TPV to be removed while servers can be split either, players who want to play on TPV servers know and accept the risks - I'm sure I have been killed in the mod before thanks to it.
-
I think that could have been due to players who wanted FPV only not wanting to join the servers because they were empty, but it takes some players to begin to fill an empty server and then other likeminded players will follow. Sadly the only other reason for it that I can see is that the majority of PvPers out there simply prefer the exploitability of TPV. Those who want a solely FPV view experience need to sort out players to fill these servers when they become available... If it was me, I'd be starting a thread to see exactly who will be interested in playing there and arranging it, maybe a poll to see who will be interested in playing on a FPV only server when the time comes. I think campaigning for its complete removal will be fruitless and waste time if I'm honest.
-
Actually thats not quite the same, nobody can stop players from KOS'ing and it's an accepted (if sometimes hated) playstyle. Removing TPV however is forcing players to be unable to use it in any form at all which is the issue.

Perhaps you should come at the game from a different angle? Sadly a video game representation can never produce peoples true behaviour in this type of situation. What you get is a hyper exaggerated sense of heroics and carelessness which would be completely at odds with how humans would behave when faced with imminent extinction. Get to know the beast and assume that there will be players out there who simply want to kill everyone they meet, in my experience they're usually not to bright and don't like it when you turn the tables on them so make sure your always in control of any given situation using plenty of recon before entering high pop areas. Know where everyone is and where they are likely to be if you can. Most importantly, DayZ is supposed to be an unforgiving environment and griefers are part of it so don't let it get to you, there are level headed survivors out there who want to treat this game in a different way but it's important not to trust anyone even so.
