    This zombie game needs more....

IMO infected should take more damage to put down than a player. There should also be a lot more of them eventually, then there will be no more running around cities in pants and a payday mask.

How to REALLY solve 3pp issue

There is no longer a need to discuss this topic for any reason. The hives were split, lots of players on both types, everyone got what they wanted. Now, occasionally someone starts a thread to stir things up, which falls apart and RIP GY. I remember when people thought splitting hives would divide the community and that was their reason not to, well the community was already divided and always will be - it's natural. Hardcore players get their version and 3PP players get to play how they want. Like I said, there is no discussion here anymore.

People are already playing with the AKM..

I've currently taken a break from playing until the item testing phase is finished, as the game is a little dull at the moment for a zombie apocalypse. There will be many players like me who are not particularly interested in murica gun porn and are here for DayZ as a whole (where the mod left off), we are waiting patiently.
  4. Sniping is in its element at the moment due to the lack of zombies. When their numbers increase and their threat becomes greater, snipers who don't relocate should find themselves sharing their spots with a few dead friends.
  5. Knowing this game, I expect fat characters would be instantly KOS'd.
  6. I Kind of miss the chopper crashes, they made the wilderness a bit more exciting. I doubt they will be back for a long time though.

Is weight going to play a factor ever?

It is merely representative of its extra weight :) An actual weight system would probably be very difficult to introduce, let alone additionally considering the sizes of objects. If heavier objects remove more slots, then your lead balls (hurhur) would take up more slots in the pack than tins of food, due to their extra weight. Objects sizes are already considered and should count equally (ie a cereal box takes four slots due to it's size, a lead ball takes four slots due to its weight).

Is weight going to play a factor ever?

It would be easy to introduce a system where the heavier the clothing item or weapon you carry, the more slots are removed from use in your backpack (ie wear a ballistic helmet, lose one slot of space. carry an axe, lose three slots etc). Keeps it simpler than the weight system in Stalker, for instance.

    Dayz Backstory?

Maybe... or maybe there's a zombie with a flamethrower out there somewhere that nobody has seen yet...

Pve Servers : Not So Pve...

Never trust anyone in DayZ... even the people who name the servers.

    Dayz Backstory?

Hopefully there could also be more evidence of panic ie crashed cars in the streets (I'm trying to figure out who set fire to all the cars in Chernarus), zombies and corpses in the wilderness, useable riot gear which could be found on police zombies - I expect there was a lot of civil unrest in the early days of the outbreak. little things that a survivor could discover which makes them think about what happened there, people would start to imagine all kinds of things.

Do you Think DayZ Should Port to Console?

I don't see why it shouldn't be ported, once the PC version is finished, but that's a long way off. I imagine it would be different but retain the same focus on interaction that the SA does, I don't think it would affect the PC at all. Personally, I wouldn't touch a console version though.
  13. I'd be for the idea of a structure which you would not be able to log into (ie; if you logged off inside it, when you logged on again you would be somewhere outside it). This would enable players who got together to perhaps have a chance at defending an area and/or making it safe for meetings and trading without the fear of players ghosting in. The building could be designed in such a way that people inside could not easily be sniped, attackers would have to make a frontal assault. There could even be many buildings like this dotted around the map.

    Lets talk about shotguns

This: or I'm no gun expert, but they seem to me to fit the game best.

    Dean Hall & George Romero

Ah yes, fantastic book. It doesn't make the transition to film too well though (three attempts, all pretty poor). Romero at least brought the 'outbreak' to the screen, like a clash of realities. I Am Legend is closer to DayZ than actual 'zombies' however, a tragedy that Matheson died last year or perhaps he could have met Dean.

Currency - what would it be?

If you want to barter, approach someone in game and hope they're up for it and don't kill you. Ammo should hopefully get rarer (I picked up 120+ rounds for my FNX just moving from Berezino to Electro) and then it can be used as bartering currency if you have nothing else of value. No reason to trade or barter at the moment though...

    Dean Hall & George Romero

I think it would not be possible at the moment to make a passable multiplayer game of The Thing. As much as I love that film, it wouldn't really work unless it was a single player (perhaps straight co op) and there are too many 'rules' to the situation. I got bored of the 2002 game half way through as it got very generic, completely unlike Carpenter's film (or even the 1951 The Thing From Another World).
  18. Agreed, I think separate hives is the way to go for now - if it increases development time then so be it. Any 3PP fix can be implimented further down the line and the hives re combined (or one deleted)... one thing is for sure, they can't please everyone no matter what happens.

    Dean Hall & George Romero

True, the term 'zombie' has changed over the years, to me it will always be intrinsically linked to Romero's vision. More so that than its Haiti religious slavery origins or the 'Plague Of The Zombies' animated husks. Your Quote (although in the film it referred to Hell being full) to me added a biblical slant to the event, I suspect being partly responsible for the modern zombie's conception by Romero. Fulci incorporated this too. I like it as I think it makes the whole thing more tangible. One day who knows, maybe they will meet. I suspect Romero would be impressed with the game too...

    Dean Hall & George Romero

I think the 'infected' idea suits games most at the moment for several reasons. It sidesteps the problem of resurrection of players, it enables an easy explanation of the situation, it removes the need for headshots and it requires a tiny fraction of the numbers that Romero's undead would be present in. If DayZ followed Romero's vision directly it would be far more difficult to survive in game. Perhaps DayZ 2...?

    Dean Hall & George Romero

Before Romero's Night Of The Living Dead in 1968, zombies were portrayed as subservient slaves and they had no taste for human flesh. He made the undead an ironic reflection of modern society and a global threat to rival the cold war. If not for him none of this would exist (technically, DayZ has more in common with 28 Days Later but this runs parallel to zombie lore). Although DayZ differs slightly from Romero's vision at the moment, I think when the zombies reach their projected numbers it could fall in line with it.
  22. It is staying in, thankfully, just being modified to remove exploitability.
  23. 3PP isn't an exploit, but in it's current form it's exploitable I would say.
  24. I think there are a couple of issues with that poll though. For a start there was no option for people who are perfectly happy if the views are split to two different hives. I think this is ultimately the best idea, especially as I expect the majority of players would have a character on both hives. Also, any polls created on here are only available to about 16% of the total playerbase and that 16% are the players who play DayZ the most often/ as a primary game. I'd be willing to bet that a far larger proportion of stalwart first person players are registered forum users than third person players relative to the total player base, so the control group is not as random as it should be. I think it shows that most people want to see any exploit addressed but that is all. Maybe another vote could be cast if the hives are split, to see if players still think it needs to be addressed?
