    Tell about your first kill.

I got my first murder in a very similar way today. I just got the Hero skin and was gearing up around Elektro, I was climbing the stairs to the top of the tower at the fire station and when I got there I turned to see another player sat there with a shotgun. He didn't fire, maybe he saw the skin and thought friendly, but I panicked and shot him with my Kobra. Wierd thing was I shot him a bit first and stopped, he still did nothing and I continued to fire. There was much swearing at myself after as I might not have needed to kill him but it gave me a murder and my humanity went from 5300 to -4100.... Sorry whoever you were it was an accidednt, I've decided to go unarmed medic for a while now as penance.
  2. It happened to me twice in the past week, both times it said I died the instant I logged in and spawned me with absolutely nothing off map. Both times it happened I was wearing a skin (ghillie suit and camo) which was the only thing I still had upon spawning. Its only happened since downloading the latest Dayz patch and the second time it happened I has joined a server with 0 other players so it wasn't a hacker. Gearing up is easy so its not too bad but I might just stay around the coast for a while until its fixed. Has it happened to anyone who wasn't wearing Ghillie or Camo gear at the time?

Why is the M14 so overlooked?

Its great vs players, bad vs zombies.. Ditched mine the other day for an M4

ITT : Post your best gear yet

Presently M249, M4A1 CCO SD, PDW, Camo gear, Coyote backpack and 1 can Mountain Dew. will probably have all changed within a couple of dayz as usual....

    Mountain Dew

I found some in a church in cherno a couple of days ago when I had a Kobra... since then I found a M4A1 CCO SD, M14 AIM M16/M203 at a quick run to NWAF, a heli crash just outside gave me a Bizon and then I found a GPS in a deerstand and a Coyote backpack... I'm wondering what more luck it will bring me!
  6. I passed up a M107 yesterday, found it in a tent by Stary and an AS50 at a heli crash a couple of weeks ago. As I play alone the only sniper rifle I would consider picking up is a DMR, sniping is not really my style but they can be useful and DMR ammo grows on trees. The 50cal ones are very specific tools for a specific jobs and shouldn't be picked up by lone wolves unless you ONLY want to snipe imo

    Matches....gimme some matches!!

I think what happens is they spawn all over the place when you already have some, I see loads if them now
  8. Zombies were always slow in films before Romero started. The first film with fast zombies in I remember was Return Of The Living Dead. And they were indestructable. I think if slow zombies were added in game it would need to be balanced by them not losing track of you when you ran behind a wall and into a building (so it would be easier to get trapped) and to make them able to grab you and hold you stationary for a few secs while they bit you if you passed close enough. That should make people a bit more careful around them at least...
  9. So I still don't really understand... I have 4600 humanity carried over from my last life. I've never helped or even spoken to another player but killed hundreds of zombies, I changed skin to a gillie suit last life which I assume therefore raised my humanity from 2500 to 4600, does that sound right? I killed one player, was awarded a bandit kill which didn't affect my humanity. Also. when I changed skin I kept my civilian clothing, does this mean I could have changed back and forth between the two sets to raise my humanity?

DE 280 - Cherno Hospital Nuked?

Maybe chopper crash or satchel charges I guess, don't know if thats possible...
  11. To be honest though, I really can't think of any good reason to consider porting a highly successful PC game to console other than money. What other reason could there be? As for hiring an outside firm to make a console version, that would make sense but I'd still be worried about successful console based ideas (like acheivements) finding their way onto PC.
  12. I'd not want it going to console. Lets assume a basic, condensed version is to be released on console... looking at other console games I'd imagine that the temptation would be to get rid of the fear of losing all gear on death as that would potentially inhibit console sales of the game (thus removing the heart from the game). This numbed version potentially could still massively outsell the imminent PC standalone version and be very profitable.... Eventually, down the line a sequel is anounced aimed at console for the sales, with a PC port from this. PC gamers end up with a good looking but frustatingly bland and unadventurous identishooter Dayz 2.....

    help me someone please.

I always carry one or two morphines now, learned the hard way. They seem fairly common and easy to get at the military hospital tents in Cherno.

    So military camps?

I saw an M24 and ammo in a military tent in Cherno the other day, I assume it spawned there but I guess someone might have exchanged it for one of the usual AKM type guns I see in there... I would go to the airfield in the North west as soon as you can if you want the best spawns though
  15. Last night I decided to head to the NW airfield for the first time (after two previous attempts where I got as far as Stary and then ported back to the beach grr). It took me a couple of hours on foot alone with my sense of direction and bad map reading skills, and I fannyed around for a bit when I got there but logged as there were so many zombies. This morning I logged back on and successfully raided both barracks and a couple of hangars and came away with a shiney (well, shiney camo) M4A3 CCO and PDW.. Awesome! obviously I was now cocky so after stocking up on meat and refilling canteens I decided to try and find a heli crash by going south. After about a half hour I finally spotted one by a barn! First I tries taking out the zombies with the M4 as I had about 9 mags for it but that went pear shaped and I came away with 8 zombie kills, 2 broken legs and 1 brown gillie suit trousers. I decided on my second attempt to just sprint around it and draw the zeds away but somehow after a bit of running I end up next to the chopper with no zombies near me lol. anyway to my point..I'm pretty much a newb when it comes to the higher end content of this game and I had the choice of these weapons which were around it: Mk 48 mod 0, DMR, FN FAL, AS50 and L85A2 AWS but I had no time to choose properly as zombies were getting close... I came away with the L85A2 AWS, my rational being I'm not a pvper really so I didn't want a sniper and It could use my STANAG mags as ammo. Did I make the right choice? More importantly can someone give me a few tips on how to use it properly (it seems to be on night vision at the moment lol)? I'm well chuffed, I think its quite a good gun, better than that M4 And I survived (lucky I was carrying morphine!) Been playing for two weeks now and I'm enjoying this game massively :)
  16. That was also what I was thinking, it should increase my awareness I found the guns all around the chopper, even some were underneath! I don't think you could repair it, it looks like a static model (I found a huey last week that I could get into but this was more like an attack chopper)
  17. Thanks, I'll switch to thermal. I thought about smoke, then remembered the airfield where I threw smoke about two feet in front of me aggroing zombies by the barraks, panicked and ran off dropping more smoke at my feet (I had 3) as I didn't realise it wouldn't default back to my gun after throwing the first one lol! I had to lose about 20 zombies in the woods which were full of different coloured smoke... I seem to enjoy going in at the deep end and learning on the run! Is it not worth trying to shoot them from a distance then? I picked off about five at first but they all just seemed to respawn right away

Being a hero versus being a bandit

I killed my first player last night, in self defence. I'd logged off outside Stary but logged back in to find myself on the SW beach (Grr). I was low on food and water so I decided to follow the shore to Cherno supermarket and stock up ready to go north again, when I got there I opted to swing by the church first. I got in with 1 Z aggroed (it lost interest when it reached the church entrance and wandered off) and I started to scavenge. When I got to the back of the church I suddenly heard a suppressed weapon firing and started to take damage, the guy was inside the door to the left and I'd either walked right past him or he'd followed me in. Anyway I dropped to my knee and returned fire with the M16 and wasted him quick (I was left on about 4k blood) and got a bandit kill (and now a hero skin) so I went through his things and took food, drink and a bandage to replace the one I'd used and left the rest (the weapon was an MP5 SD, he must have hit me at least four times with it so I deemed it shit and left it lol) I felt bad though as I assume I got the bandit kill because he fired first, but he may have been innocent and just panicked therefore becoming a bandit the instant before I killed him I guess... There was no time to communicate and I suppose he saw a guy with an M16 and Gillie suit and wanted my stuff. Ironically now I have the hero skin, he could have had the gillie suit off me! I normally just ignore or avoid other players and I didn't find killing him fun, but I enjoy the fact that pvp make players constantly vulnerable and I think bandits are necessary.

    This game blows

OP, you tried the mod and found it wasn't for you, so just move on to something else. There's plenty more games out there for you.
  20. I'd also like to see the zombies as more of a threat (Its why I bought the game, after all!) by having them not just present in towns, but in the wilderness too. There would be less of them, but it might add excitement for people who want to move around a map a lot.. Snipers would no longer be safe in the tree line too!
  21. The fact is if you created a game with a thousand different things to do and one of them was killing other players, sadly the majority of players would prioritise killing other players above the other 999 things. Until this changes, there won't really be any 'new and original' games.

    ghillie suit spawn locations

I found one in a military hospital tent in Cherno
  23. I'd like a team forming mechanic where you can offer to team up with with a stranger. When accepted , teamed players can trade with both players consent but cannot kill each other (I think the only way it would work), the 'not being able to kill other team members' persists for two minutes after a member quits the team. Maybe it would give a reason for something other than KOS. You would be able to turn off these offers in options if you wanted to stay lone wolf. Also, I'd like to see endgame content involving zombies in the north for geared up players. Maybe siege situations where players can get involved in helping protect villages or towns with human bots in.
  24. The above clip says a compass is not necessary if playing alone, but I think it is - I believe it marks your position on the map if you have one. I play alone and chose to evade players if I can rather than shoot on sight as I don't see players as enemies, but other survivors who may or may not be friendly. I have ghillie suit, M16 etc but have not murdered anyone yet and have 4550 humanity after a week of playing and a few deaths (in the first few days). I think the key to getting started quick is to hit Cherno/Elektro/deerstands/south airfield quickly while you have nothing to lose and then move inland. Playing on a low pop server is easier as most players who want pvp head to high pop ones. Find a supermarket and stock up on food and drink until you can be self sufficient. For me, this is not a pvp game - its a survival simulator.

    Dayz Standalone

I'd like to know if the stand alone is intended to be cross platform, if the experience gets diluted for consoles then I won't be interested in it and will want to stick with the mod. I don't care about the money, Dayz as it is now is something really special in gaming...
