Who suggested fying pans? For the love of god no, its not Tom and Jerry!

I had a Razer Death Adder but both the main buttons broke. This was after a year+ of very intensive use though :) so not that bad I think. I got the Cyborg R.A.T 3 to replace it and despite looking like its not been finished off properly, its ergonomically superb... great balance and it even has a built in thumb rest for the lazy! They're both good but in different ways, I would go to a computer store and try out as many as they have on display personally.

I expect they wouldn't have been bothered if you had taken a crowbar in with you though, as they're so useless

Did, at any point, you find yourself at the beach without any stuff? Or got home to find someone had constructed a tank trap in your front room? Maybe when you got home you were so happy to be safe and dry that you closed the front door a little too quick and then had to crawl back to the hospital for morphine...

Don't forget, like most of us here I'm sure, zombies love bush. They can't pass one without stopping for a quick sniff and lick, just draw them to one and jog away!

Next time you start fresh, make a point of sprinting towards the first zombies you see. Just remember not to stop and you'll soon realise that although they chase you and make strange noises behind you, they can't hit you. you'll then see how dumb they really are and you can start leading them around imagining Benny Hill music playing. When you get bored, run through a house or zig zag through the nearest bunch of trees and you'll soon be back to being mr no zombies. If you do this for 5-10 mins I promise you'll have lost your fear of zombies and will have a much greater understanding of their limitations.

I'm not sure if this was already mentioned but I'd like to see a friendly button implimented into Dayz. Like a command, you'd be able to hit a key and your guy would shout 'friendly' and wave, then lower or holster his gun. I realise that a button which just says friendly could be misused by bandits (as in voice chat where people will say it even if they're going to perforate you) so an automated function which stows your weapon automatically should avoid this. I would think most people with mics would continue to use them to make contact but for beginners or people without mics this would be a good addition I think! Maybe even other command buttons could be added, like one for bandits to hold people up before they steal stuff from them, or a 'dance monkey boy!' button if you wanted to shoot at their feet...

Well, you don't ever have to use it, it would be an option. And lets be honest, if someones going to KOS you it won't matter what you do anyway :) this would be useful if you happen to meet someone who might not want to kill you. It got me thinking when I came face to face with a guy on the fire house in Elektro earlier and for about 10 secs there was a standoff while we both faced each other. He didn't shoot even though I had my gun on him so I slowly backed out and left him to it, if I had taken any longer he probably would have opted to shoot to be on the safe side and a quick signal could have difused the whole situation. We still wouldn't be trusting each other but hey at least no unnecessary boomstickery occurred...

I figured it would be a quick and easy way of broadcasting your intentions because a lot of first contact situations in this game require you to do this as fast as possible. Seconds can mean life or death when a gun is pointed at you so a set command could save your life... or at least postpone your death for a few seconds :)

The map only shows your current position if you play on 'regular' servers (look for it in the server name) otherwise you can navigate by landmarks when you have explored a little so you don't have to mark on the map. Also, if you are not such a good shot I recommend a shotgun (preferrably Winchester) and a 45 pistol as a loadout. The shotgun should 1 shot kill a zombie when it gets close wherever you hit it and the 45 is powerful and relatively quiet also. Both have very common ammo.

The only 24 slot backpack I know of is the Coyote backpack and I think that spawns only in military buildings, it looks very different to the starting pack too (its like a small building... FOR YOUR BACK!!).

TBH I kind of hope it comes out later ie. December so its not going directly head to head with 'the unnamed game'.. ppl will get bored of the other one and then there will be uber sales when Dayz SA hits us! Having said that I think late November is realistic.

There's a thread about it on here, something to do with joining a server running a different version of Dayz to you which can do this I think. If you abort and then join a different server its fine.

FYI, if you want to avoid death next time when it says 'xxxx has died' as soon as you spawn just abort. if you abort rather than respawn then next time you join a different server you should be back to normal (happened to me twice today, still got all my stuff though).

The key is to remember that it is a game and just like any other game people will do whatever they can to maintain interest in it. Its not an apocalypse survival sim because players can log out whenever they want and carry on with their safe, boring lives and if you die in game you just respawn again without any real repercussions. If it were real then 90% of players would try to help others as there would be nothing else left to live for, only the criminals would KOS. I think the real challenge of this game is surviving in the games circumstances, and overcoming mistrust when killing is generally encouraged. Others seek a visceral thrill with PVP (for protection or aggression) or just because they can. You have to accept the times that you are killed as a defenseless fresh spawn and remember that its not personal, you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time :)

I kind of agree with this. I definitley think the zombies should be more of a threat and also survival in the wilderness should be more involving and time consuming (like a full time job) rather than just running about like a loon. I think I heard that the stand alone will have a mechanic to make grouping easier and I'd like to see grouping between random players encouraged/ made easier. Apart from making survival more of a team effort it should also make PVP far more fun as groups of survivors engage each other rather than individuals (isn't this what the engine was designed around originally after all?).

If anything this game needs a lot more zombies.

When you hit 5k humanity, if you are wearing a ghillie or camo skin, they will remain and nothing will change in your backpack. when you next die and respawn, you will be at the coast in a hero skin. If you swap to civilian clothing from the ghillie now you will be in hero gear instead of survivor I believe, but as said take backpack off first before you swap.

Some things to note: If you play the hero role you will die a lot, you shouldn't shoot unless hit (not just shot at) unless the opponent is a bandit, so its up to you to extend a friendly hand if you run into another survivor. Good advice might be to try out for one of the bigger medic groups on here when you have some experience. Also bear in mind that if you decide to be a bandit (and there are bandit groups to join too) you will run up lots of negative humanity, its possible to get to levels which would be incredibly difficult to get back to zero from if you decide you want to change to being a hero at a later date. Its very risky trying to blood bag a random survivor if you have the bandit skin! One other thing, if you play as a scavenger/ survivor and evade or stalk other players then as long as you avoid making kills you will eventually get the hero skin anyway.

I think the revolver looks best with the skin and is good for dealing with Zeds quietly.. as a main maybe the Remington shotgun as you won't be hunting targets at range,,,

Cool, thats what I thought things would be like when I first started playing!

I think of them as infected and it makes more sense, maybe its then a coordination thing. If they were really animated dead then they would have to be very fresh to run, don't forget that their hearts no longer beat so blood no longer circulates. Assuming something else is allowing the muscles to work then after a while, as rigor mortis starts, they would slow dramatically and then decay would further this effect. As there is no timeline in the game, and no surviving military units I would assume everything was over dayz previous to the point we washed up on the beach so zombies really should be slower... If they are infected then they should starve/dehydrate like humans so according to the mod they'd all be dead in a few hours... Its best not to think about it too much and just accept it!

Afaik you get about 200-300 each time you change skins between ghillie, camo and civvie clothes. It resets to 0 first then next time you log on the total humanity is raised. At least, it seems to for me.
