  1. As usual this is not true, Anybody 'hardcore' or not is able to and does give feedback if given the chance. To infer that because a person isn't 'hardcore' means their opinion is less important is misguided and elitist. I see I've been an active member on this forum much longer than you, does that give my opinion more weight than yours? Of course not. The simple fact is that a large number of players don't even know that this discussion is going on. Not everyone thinks like you, you can't possibly back up this statement. The recent exposure of this TPV vs FPV discussion could well have driven some third person players to try FPV. If this is the case, and they like it then will choose to populate the FPV servers and you have somewhere to play which is populated. If this doesn't happen then I guess they actualy prefer TPV. Simple.
  2. This is what I feel is the way to go as well. With some tweaking, it could fix the issues being brought up. If the view can't be completely fixed, then the servers should be split to accomodate either or.
  3. There simply is no logical reason to cut TPV out if the exploits can be fixed either. I'd wait to see what happens to the view first before flying off the handle, it makes more sense.
  4. For this to work the camera would have to be offset and behind the player characters head. But yes otherwise it would eliminate exploits if done correctly. As I suggested earlier, fixing the camera so it is closer and unable to move above head height would stop people from being able to manipulate it to see around things, so no exploits and it could be used in conjunction with FPV. If the camera is close in enough then it won't offer any advantage over first person as the screen view is wider than the characters head in FPV. I'm sure the team will be considering this at some point in whichever form works with what they have in mind so far.
  5. I think in actual fact it's a quite vocal minority who would like to see TPV removed altogether. As it seems to be staying in at least for the forseeable future I have another suggestion, maybe its possible to force First person when crossing an exclusion zone around a town or village, a set perimeter? Then everyone would be in first person when entering built up areas. The suggestions so far I don't see as either or, incidently, but rather as a collection of ideas with the ones which can be of use maybe put together to solve some immediate issues.
  6. That doesn't make sense. And there is nothing to be lost here, it is a discussion, one in which you are not taking part in.
  7. you are stubborn and deliberately trying not to see things from any other perspective than your own, coninually claiming that I am 'wrong' without actually offering any ideas on specific problems and how to fix them. Your last line sums you up in terms of this discussion, and I can't have a discussion with you because of it. Sorry.
  8. This is the last post I'm making about this then as I'm becoming bored of another circular argument which can never be resolved, so now try to understand me. I'm not a 'materialist' :) Likewise I don't delude myself that I'm having a life changing experience whilst I play a video game. It is just that, after all, a video game. It's very immersive and grabs onto you sometimes but ultimately it's something people do for fun, not to try and prove something. When you get old enough in life you realise that games can't replicate the intense feelings of your actions in the real world. I'm aware of Rocket's personal triumphs and his attachment to DayZ, much respect to him but at the end of the day I'm sure he'd agree that he wants to make something that people can enjoy. Your standpoint is that only the people who voted on these polls should be considered during its creation and to a degree that is how it is, ideas which are born on the forum sometimes make it into the game. But that doesn't mean we on here are the only people who matter and all those other players, the vast majority, should be ignored. They may not make their voice known but they vote with their feet so they must be considered. Ultimately I'm sure everyone would be perfectly happy with an unexploitable third person view which they could viably ignore and use first person if they wanted instead, with no impact to them. Yes it's more work than cutting out TPV altogether, but as you agree I think, Rocket and his team are not the type to take the easy route or cut corners. They want the best for the game and the playerbase and no amount of polls will change that. Of course if he decides TPV is a lost cause and cuts it out then so be it and good on him, but at least he tried to fix it, that's the important bit.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

Good idea. Also, can another player shoot my gun to disarm me? If they can I'd like to know if I could fix it while under fire or would it be useless. Maybe if they shot my backpack I would lose some of what's in there... lots of possibilities here.
  10. Settle down, please. As by your own admission these polls don't represent all of the players then they are of limited use, this is in no way like a political election where the whole population is encouraged to vote and polling is advertised, it is a few player created polls on a few forums which a very small percentage of the playerbase frequents. Do not assume they are accurate simply because they are polls, an intelligent man would know this. Besides this, I would be very suprised if all the players, even ones who voted are up to speed on all the available options here. They would have to have read through an 80 page thread on this forum for starters. You are right though, players don't need your guidance.
  11. Well, if thats the case and nothing works then cut TPV as a last resort. What if the players love the result of a modded TPV? Then the time and code would have been used successfully. I'm sure that can be applied to DayZ itself, creating the mod was a gamble which fortunately was accepted by players and became successful. And you don't need a 'use' for TPV to keep it in, thats what I mean. It's a preference.
  12. I agree about custom loadouts, as well as added loot/vehicles/buildings (that last one is just wierd) and I would be in favour of setting the default view to FPV assuming TPV was fixed as people feel so strongly about it. I think particularly intense player encounters have that effect on people regardless of view though. I had to log off once after killing some innocent guy who held fire on me as I just got the hero skin because I felt so bad, that was in TPV. Events when the adrenaline is flowing and you don't quite make it.. you have to sit back hands shaking. That's a unique thing to DayZ's core gameplay, emotional investment at least for me is regardless of which view I'm using at the time, its to do with the world itself.
  13. I just refuse to believe that the majority of DayZ players are mindless drones who can't help themselves playing the game in a way they don't want to. However I do think some people are drawn to TPV servers to give themselves a level playing field because of the TPV exploit which is why the view should be modified.
  14. Wait, did you just claim that the playerbase of DayZ is lazy? Are you suggesting they sit behind their monitors playing Third person and crying to themselves that they want to play on a first person server because they are not enjoying it when all the while they could just log onto one? Perhaps the majority of people interested in answering polls on the forum prefer playing first person. Perhaps in reality some people just want to play the game and don't care which view they use. Don't you think then that if the majority of the player base wants to take the 'easy path' then they should be able too? Do you really think they need your guidance in what is best for them.. thats a bit.. 'dictatory'.
  15. I'm not sure it's a question of making sure 3rd person view has uses. It will always have the use of making some players feel better using it than first which is most important, whatever happens to it. If any way of exploiting it no longer exists, then what does it matter if it has uses or not? Also, if nobody can see their feet in either view when they hide, then thats another potential 'exploit' done away with. If you want to look at it that way.
  16. But.. TPV only gives an advantage over FPV for pvp. Surely if people all want to play first person then when they log into a first person only server it is no easier or harder as everyone is using the same view? It's illogical to think that people want to play first person only but all choose to play third person instead, if everyone uses third person and no one has an advantage... Crazy. The only advantage is between the two different views. If people don't want the feeling playing in FPV brings then they play in third person on those servers. If you're insinuating that the survival part of the game is any easier in TPV then that is just inaccurate. It's becoming more obvious with every post on this thread that there should be server specific locked views and servers available for both.
  17. This is a good point. The key is to allow people to continue to use the view they prefer without either view impacting on the gameplay of the other. But both views are immersive in different ways - some prefer one, some the other, but one is not better or 'more immersive' than the other as some people allude to, it's simply 'horses for courses'. They are both viable, one just needs some honing.
  18. Actually that could potentially affect us all as if the SA is not a success, BI probably wouldn't be interested in a follow up somewhere down the line (or maybe even developing similar games). Whether the removal of TPV would affect sales or not, I don't know. I do know that removing TPV from the mod would not affect sales in any way, it may even increase sales by driving people to pay for the SA when they might have stayed with the mod instead (I don't think this would be many though). In conclusion, I don't really see any problem having the mod FPV only when the SA comes out, but keep a verson of TPV in the SA.
  19. I recently saw The Bay, you should check that out too if you like the found footage genre
  20. I keep going back to this: It looks like a fix to me (if view height was locked at head height), at least mostly, and an acceptable transition between views. If the TPV was modified this way would it not be able to exist on servers with FPV enabled? I hope it is being considered at least as a starting point, as TPV is staying for the moment.
  21. I have to say, everything I've seen about the SA has impressed me, I'm looking forward to the survival challenge which should be at last a major feature of DayZ gameplay and the effect that will have on how people play it. It will be very interesting, and the more difficult the better. The only thing I don't like is the zombie leap attack animations, but I'm sure that won't be a deal breaker for me.

    Dayz TV Ad idea

A guy is going through the food cans in a store, very nervous and edgy. There's a noise from the entrance. 'Hey buddy, you ok in there?' he freezes and slowly raises his gun, pointing it at the main entrance where the voice came from. 'Its ok buddy, I'm a friend' a bearded face peers into the shop from around the corner of the entrance. 'Go away, I'm fine' says the first guy, cautiously scanning the area beyond the doors. 'Hey, I'm coming in, don't shoot. I need some food.' The first guy hesitates, then says 'well... ok, but I've got my gun on you, try anything and I'll kill you real quick.' 'Hey no problem, I'm cool' The bearded guy edges slowly into view. He's unarmed and moves into the aisle the first guy is in, grinning with his hands up. 'Sure glad to see you, I ain't seen anyone for days'. 'Me neither' says the first guy, he pauses, then says 'Where did you come from?' 'Honestly? I'm a tourist, I was visiting Berezino when this all went down, now I don't even know where I am. How about you?' 'I live around here. Look man, just take what you need and go, I've been.... Hey do you hear that?' The sound of a distant vehicle getting closer 'Yeah, sounds a bit like a ' SPLAT Both men are mysteriously run over by what appears to be nothing. In a convenience store.
