    Is it the Arma engine?

Thanks everyone for the replies... I have not played much with the settings but it looks like will have to. It just seems strange as I've been playing FPS since the 1990's and this is the only game that I notice this movement issue. I just assume it's the arma engine. I will fiddle with my settings and see if I can make it a little better.. thank you!
  2. One of my biggest complaints with this game is the character movement. What I mean by this is, when I use my mouse to turn left or right, I don't feel as though I am moving my character, I feel as if I am panning the world around me. Does this makes sense? It's the best way I can desrcibe the issue. This is the only FPS game I have ever had trouble with entering doorways, going around corners or up stairs. Is this the Arma engine? If so I can asuume this is something that will never get fixed and we'll just have to deal. Don't get me wrong I love the game and will be playing it. I'm just curious if others feel the same way about the camera panning as I do and if anyone has any ideas how to fix it, if it's even fixable on the cllient end.

Wow, Venthos is losing his mind, I love it. More qq please. I love how you don't want to put words in Foxes mouth but you will make assumptions and put words into mine. heh And Fox why are you continuing to bring up my backbone numbers... did you not see where I said I wouldn't persue this any longer. It's a dead issue, you won't approve and that is fine. Private server here I come!

Not my statement, just what I was told. And it is not complete non-sense, working for a university is a lot different than working for some company. We give our users a lot of freedom, we don't restrict what hardware and software they use as long as it doesn't cause issues on the network (which is mostly hacked machines that cause problems). As far as resolving the issue, I tried, my internet connections are outstanding, regardless of what fox thinks and I offered to change my OS version. At this point it doesn't matter. They said no, I will move on to private hive/server status, that's all. As far as your insults, well, this is what I get for playing video games. You deal with asshole kids and 20 somethings.

Whatever man, it is not a big deal. I don't even care at this point. I didn't call you a dick or make any remarks about you in anyway, in fact I've been pretty civil this entire time. I still think you are very unprofessional for unveiling my employer in a public forum, there was no need for that.

I'm not being smug and where did I say the DayZ admin needed to be at my beck and call? I'm sorry if I missed something on the forums.. jeez the world is ending because of it. Ya know what, screw the DayZ community, I tried to help out but I guess it's not needed or wanted.. fine. I won't bother to pursue this any longer. edit: Actually I did read that second link, that's the one I have been using. The first link I missed, well. Sorry.

Thank you. It's also very unprofessional to post the name of my employer in a public forum.. but it is what it is I guess. I am still amazed at the difficulty of this process. I can understand having standards, but now questioning if my employer will approve? Like it's any of their business.. Let me handle any backlash.. if there was any.. heh

I don't work in the MIT IS&T department, I work in the MTL IS&T department, my department along with two others make up the 18.62 subnet. I don't know what MIT IS&T would say, I only no what the network admin for my subnet would say. I know MIT doesn't allow people to run stuff that you are charging for.. meaning I can't setup a server farm and rent out servers to people, that's not allowed for sure, but I am not doing that.. heh So to answer you question, I really have no idea what the main IS&T department would say. I can certainly ask them when I get into work tomorrow. edit: With all the college students running all kinds of stuff... I'm willing to bet they have the same attitude as my subnet admin, probably as long as it's not illegal it's not a problem... but I'll ask them.

Sys Admin, I'm not the Network Admin. As I've been working there for 13 years I can run whatever server I want in my department, nothing fishy going on, I assure you. A quote from the senior network admin "I don't care what people run on their servers as long as no one on the outside world complains". In a nutshell, the only thing that is frowned upon are file sharing services, torrents and such. And, there is no need to be rude, first you flame me for leaving out information (but then you left out information) and now the "whatever you are" comment. Come on man, there is no need to be like that. I'm new to the community and I'm just trying to help out here. edit: As far as me not knowing the network speeds, I am only responsible for my subnet, the 18.62 range. I don't deal with the actual connections to the world.

Yeah, I'm not really into using programs like Wine or VMware.. I prefer to use whatever OS is needed. Emulation is usually a lot slower. Plus where I work I have access to most OS versions anyway.

And I find it funny that you left out that on my second ticket I mentioned to you that I used some "speed test" site that was clearly unreliable, I then contacted the senior network admin to get the exact details of our connections to the internet and I gave you a list of my internet connections to the outside world (same list as above) and you just replied "we are not going to approve". I also mentioned I would change to whatever OS was required. Instead of giving me a one line email saying "no", you could have at least mentioned to me what to do to fix my request for an ID. So please, answer me this, now that I have told you twice that my internet connections are good and I put Windows 2008 on my box, will you approve me? I really don't want to waste my time wiping and reinstalling the OS if you are just going to say no.

Where did I say it was my OS of choice? That is just what's currently on the machine. I wouldn't use any version of Windows to run a server, ever, but DayZ requires Windows, that's certainly not my fault! I'm a Unix person myself, more specifically Solaris and Linux.

    Are they denying everyone?

And Domi, yeah I can install any version of Windows they require, that's not a problem at all.

Inu, I understand that, most home machines wouldn't have the processing power or internet bandwidth.. If you read my internet specs, no one has those kinds of connections "at home".. I wish I did!! The server is located in the datacenter where I work.
