  1. Ammo count? So you can now see which mags have got less in and drop them in deference to full magazines you find? Fricking awesome. Long may these Beta patches continue to roll out and improve things.

    Well here's a few ideas...

Since when does smoking a cigarette calm your nerves? All it does is offset the stress brought on by the nicotine craving you are suffering from precisely because you smoke. Ridiculous suggestion.. The notion that cigarette smoking calms the nerves is 50s tobacco company propaganda rubbish. If this mechanic came in, have it so if you do smoke a cigarette in game, you can't run as fast /long, and you are prone to occasionally coughing whilst sneaking around which zeds and players can hear. Just have it so you get stressed and your aim gets all funky like when you need painkillers, but it goes away after a period of calm. Sitting or laying still for a minute or two.
  3. Deer stands, miltary tent camps, airfields, hangars, barracks, and of course hospital buildings. Also heli crash spawn sites. Based on where you are trying to find a deerstand might be the best bet, unless you want to rely on happening across a helicrash. Unfortunately a lot of the places they spawn are also places where a lot of the cool kit can be found, so are camped by other players. Good luck.

    Two cheaters caught on tape

Nice work catching them on video.. Wilkywilks what are you going on about? Everything in the video proves these guys were hacking. Did you even watch it? The same guy gets killed by the same player 3 times in succession. And Freckle's kills with his Enfield tie in with what is being shown on the screen (taking a shot at someone) and what the text in the bottom left is saying - everytime he killed a player in the tower, the message popped up, and at no time did the message pop up when a shot wasn't taken (so there's no way this was simply message duplication). Unless Freckles killed 3 different players on top of that tower all called the same name, and how likely is that exactly? If Freckles shot Man#1 first time round, then who did he shoot second time round if not Man#1 again?, because no different name came up, and he killed someone. If it was another player, we would have seen a different name. But we didn't, we saw Man #1s name again. If this isn't evidence enough for you, I don't know what would be.

    Enemy's Body Disappeared After Death?

Stop trolling - I already explained in my post the bodies were gone before I even got to them.
  7. It's good to see that the issues concerning hackers, be it spawning illegal weapons or mass-killing servers (something I've had happen to me), are being logged and looked at. This is Alpha, and it's good to get this stuff nailed earlier rather than later. And when Rocket's hammer of retribution falls on the guilty parties, I look forward to feasting on their tears as they take to the forums crying as to how they can no longer play DayZ because they've been perma-banned.

    Enemy's Body Disappeared After Death?

I think it's a bug - I've had it happen to me twice recently where I've shot another player, I know they're dead because my murder count goes up. But by the time I get over there (it's normally less than 200 metres as I don't have a sniper rifle) I can hear the flies buzzing but there is no body to be seen. I've not even had the opportunity to accidently click "Hide body". The sound of the flies is definately located where I killed the player, but the body has vanished. I did read somewhere that disconnecting at the moment of death could cause it (as a "you may have killed me but you won't get my stuff" moment - but I may be confusing that with something else. So if it's not that, it's a bug, this being Alpha and all ;)

    How to use coordinates?

I learnt this method/phrase many years ago - "Across the hallway, up the stairs" In other words, read along first, then up. Looking at your map pic above (although it's not zoomed in enough to get the smaller boxes) the blue box would be in box 0607. If you had zoomed in enough to get the smaller boxes up (10 per big box) - I'm guessing the blue box would be at 066,078.
  11. Bearing in mind this is still an Alpha mod, why not test the concept with 5 seconds as Rocket is actually hoping to do in the next patch? If it works (and by work I mean technically it performs as it should - not "work" in the sense of removing "tactical DCing" from combat), then who knows where it will go from there? The time period might be extended / reduced, who can say? At the moment lets just test the 5 second concept first and see if it works, code and technically-wise, as intended - then we can start asking Rocket to consider longer if we feel it may benefit the gameplay, but it'll be up to him as always. Small steps are needed, and that's what we are seeing.

    AKM vs AK 74 Kobra

All the AKs default to full auto first, then single shot. It's how they are in real life - the selector switch goes from safe to full to single. It's part of the design of the gun. The meaning behind it is clear - "give it loads".

    AKM vs AK 74 Kobra

Good points of view put by everyone, I've recently spent a while with both - still playing my character with a Kobra. At the moment my money comes down slightly in favour of the Kobra. Here's my reasons : Every single time I've been in a firefight with another player it's always been at close-ish quarters (less than 200 metres). This means for me the quick sighting ability of the Kobra sight is a benefit. I only use the rifle in a PvP situation, but there are usually always Zeds about. Firing the AKM in a similar situation brings FAR more Zeds to my location than firing the 5.56 AK74. Yes you still get some Zombie attention, but not as much as letting off a big old 7.62 round. However, you do have to fire more than once to bring down your target quickly, so as a "sniper" option (i.e. lying quietly on a hillside overlooking Stary Sobors military camp) it would be preferably to use the AKM in that scenario. Plus if you want to one-shot people in general the 7.62 will do it. I've always had to hit players a couple of times with the Kobra before they go down. Plus ammo for the AKM is a LITTLE more prevalent, though not by much :) But for the way I play, I think I prefer the Kobra, but only just.

Average run time Cherno - Stary Sobor

At the military camp - "The camp of snipey deathness" - you can get things like : AKM AK74 AK74 Kobra M16A2 Entrenching tool GPS M1014 Shotgun Ammo for all of the above + DMR etc... Plus the usual bandages/morphine etc... That's just what I've seen on some runs, I'm sure there is more.
  15. This just would not work - at what point does the 30 day thing kick in? Per character? Per server? Per Entire DayZ world? If it's based on how long YOUR character has been alive, what's the incentive for playing? The majority of players may never hit 30 days, but it's the POSSIBILITY of being able to survive that long and beyond that keeps people playing. If you remove the possibility of survivng long term players are going to be even more inclined to view the mod as a deathmatch. For me, I try to survive and occasionally improve my lot by trying to find better gear - taking away the notion that I COULD survive forever would completely spoil the game. Psychologically speaking. If it's a global thing (everyone is reset at once) - how would that be fair to someone who has just started out the day before? Suppose you've survived successfully for 3 days, and then the main server resets you because it's hit the 30 day mark - how is that fair? Taking this approach to deal with a minority who abuse the game mechanics (and it IS a minority - not everyone who has a DMR with NVG and a ghillie suit is hacking/glitching/duping) is silly. It's like imposing a curfew for every adult in a town based on the fact that last night two people got drunk and smashed up a shop window i.e punishing/putting constraints on the majority based on the actions of a minority. Duping and exploiting are issues - but this isn't the way to deal with it.

Average run time Cherno - Stary Sobor

Aye, About 20-30 mins I'd say. It's got a supermarket and some open houses plus a couple of barns, plus that very tempting military campsite to the north. If you take out the military camp, it's got less lootable buildings than Vybor though. And as already noted, that military tent area is a bloody deathtrap. I got nailed there this morning, losing my GPS/AKM/Ghillie combo. It's quite open if you approach from the east or west, so snipers love it there. Plus with about a dozen tents to search in the open (and Zeds everywhere) if you get spotted, you get get slotted.
  17. Gah, a routine full virus scan this morning came up with two Ramnit detections. No idea how as I stay away from anything remotely dodgy online. On google the only surefire cure to avoid re infection was a complete windows reinstall. I also had to be careful as copying most file types for saving onto the new install could possibly lead to reinfection. What a nasty little virus it is. Anyway, when I reinstall the game and mod on my new fresh installs, will I have to start again? Or if I create a new profile will it link up with my existing character and enable me to continue his adventure?

    Day Z...WAS.....fun

Best tip for a respawn. Quickly work out which way is North (or west if you spawn in the East), and run, run like the wind. Put Chern and Electro in your rear view mirror. You've got a bottle of water and a tin of beans so you can keep going for a little while. Get away from the coast and the amount of PKing through people just killing for the heck of it drops off considerably. And there's plenty of loot at places inland. I've been living as a lone wolf for over five days now (in game time) and you still get the tense encounters of sneaking into a nearby town looking for some painkillers or some firewood. (Or the occasional Barracks run looking for some NVGs :) )
  19. *Sniff* Nobody posted this much up on my identical thread started yesterday morning.... http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=5997 I guess that's the problem with the success of the mod - and by definition thereof - this forum... topics get buried pages back very quickly.... Any chance a mod can merge?
  20. Anyone else able to download any of the mod files from the 3 server mirrors at the moment? I've just tried downloading the .8.4 hotfix and all I get is a partial download of a few kb, and nothing else happens. I've tried all 3 mirrors, and different files (not just the hotfix), and it's all the same. I'm downloading something from another website now (new drivers for my 670!) and its working fine. Ignore the above, the Nvidia driver has now also stopped with 1 second to go. A quick google reveals its an IE9 issue and I need to patch or reinstall. So not a DAYZ issue.
  21. You know you've played DayZ too much when (in real life)... You pass a cow and think about dropping to one knee, blasting it in the head with your Winchester and harvesting eight steaks. You are shopping in your local supermarket and you get to the tinned beans. You drop to one knee, clutching a can, and scan around you for anyone else coming up to take those beans from you. You are walking in town and see a bloke with a rucksack on, and think "I wonder if he's carrying any AKM clips." You drop to one knee, reaching for your .45, wondering where its gone. You notice you've lost something out of one of your pockets. You drop to one knee and decide to angrily fire off an email to your chosen deity complaining about the missing loot bug in Life version 1.5.8 and demand an immediate patch that will not only eliminate the obvious hole in your pocket, but also fix the way that when you want to sit at your computer and play games there seems to be a random spawning of people at your door trying to sell you double-glazing. You are camping, and point out to the person next to you that he won't be able to set his fire up there, because the ground isn't level and there's a tree within 3 metres of him. After dropping to one knee of course. Someone calls your name from across the road. You drop to one knee, then hit the dirt, crawl into a nearby wheelie bin, and demand the person indicate if they are friendly. Then, no matter what they say you vault the nearest fence doing a bizarre step over move to put some solid cover between you and him, shouting "stay away from my beans!" whilst doing it. You pick a fight in a pub, drop to one knee, and try to log out before the 6 foot 4 thug lands a punch on you, waking up in hospital some time later and demanding to know where your Makarov has gone and which way is Electro? There must be some other good one out there ;) To sound like a broken record, great mod Rocket, keep up the fantastic work!
  22. Goodness me I still play, I've got two days off work from tomorrow and plan to play it as much as I can. It's great!
  23. Having upgraded to the latest patch yesterday, I started playing on a random server yesterday (Virginia - but can't remember the number). When I used the map I noticed that I now had a player icon on it showing me exactly where I was and even the direction I was facing. (The same icon you get if you play a game of ARMA on the normal or easy settings) I've got a map, and a compass, but not a GPS (I have had a GPS in the past but even then it didn't put a player icon on the map). So is this a new feature of the patch? Or was it a bug? Or was it a setting which that particular server had? I'll see if it happens again on another server, but thought I'd also mention it here to see if anyone else has the same thing.
  24. If it's a server thing then that probably explains it. I'd just never seen it before and it was the first game I played after the 1.5.8 update, so just checking it wasn't some new feature. It was very handy for navigating but at the same time almost felt like cheating!
