Go for a Haswell CPU ASAP and you'll be fine for the next 5 years maybe.

Currently worth buying Arma 2 to play DayZ?
barrett_killz replied to King Mustard's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah, you should buy ArmA II. Because no one knows when the standalone will be released (probably not very soon) and your ArmA experience will have a slight impact on your DayZ gameplay. -
Better performance, but at what cost?
barrett_killz replied to Felixthefriendlycat's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually that was Alienware, you could notice it as a sign on the laptop's rear. The engine has its limitations (regarding the video settings). If you have a Haswell CPU and a top-of-the-line GPU that doesn't mean you're the only one who wants to play the game, know what I mean? -

Don't be an egoist, other people want to play as well as you want. -
You may get a gaming laptop for 800-900$, but that's not what you're looking for I think. The best way is to build one.

Launch of Balota Buddies PUBLIC EU/UK New Style Server
barrett_killz replied to Sula's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I've been on it ALONE today while it was morning and I heard shootings many many times while there was no one on the server. Does this mean something? -
The amount of Rangefinders is too damn high
barrett_killz replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
TBH, playing for almost an year, I have NEVER found one or a nightvision (doesn't include body/tent/car looting). -
Obviously it doesn't, remember that PC architecture and you'll figure it out:

Upgrade everything. Your CPU and even the GPU are really outdated. Go for top of the line right away Don't listen to this guy, you'll run the game on medium settings with up to 40 FPS. Trust a laptop owner. Just interesting, did anyone run the game on the new Haswell i7-4770K?

I think I should be good for a while, what do you think
barrett_killz replied to zfleming12's topic in Technology/Programming
Why do you ask if you know that your rig is almost top of the line? Actually I'd rather go for a GTX 780 or something like that. -
Most comical dayz moment ive had yet {video}

Seems like it was a noob, an Arma vet wouldn't be behaving like that, nice one =) -
Radio Station Recruiting for SA!
barrett_killz replied to WBK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No sense to make this topic here - there will be separate forums for the standalone (dayzgame.com). These boards won't be ported I guess. -
How To Increase FPS/Smooth Out The Game
barrett_killz replied to March1's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Adding postprocess and FXAA boosted my FPS from 15-20 to 30-40. -
What the hell, why do I run it on 30+ FPS on mobile dual core i3 CPU?

Keep calm about zeds and release dates, they didn't even implement the multiplayer client  -

That's the point of every game. To implement something which avoids abusing, the devs have to sacrifice a "realism" feature. This is how it works. -

Obviously we're not talking here about CryEngine, UDK and other developement kits which NO ONE supports such a huge environment like Chernarus or Stratis (from ArmA 3). But still, it's all about the human brain, you know that quote - Brain - use it. The NASA computers have nothing to do with the normal computer architecture (Internal memory - CPU - RAM etc. etc.). You just can't believe what you're told to believe, right? EDIT: I've been reading your post over and over again and I'm really agreed with your statement about sacrificing features to make others better, beans for that. I'm a former PAWN/Small-C developer and I've been through this many times. But I'm not about to compare myself to the magnificant DayZ developement team. Bravo! -
Glad now that you showed off your box?

You're going to spawn with random clothes on. And you'll be scavenging for new pants, boots, hats and so on as well. -
$500 PC which beats the next gen consoles? Sounds a bit strange to me. Trying to build one up with FX-6100 (or even a Phenom II X6) and a GDDR5 HD 7750 counted somewhere near $800-900 (with monitor and everything you need). Might be integrated. Intel HD 4000 or whatever that CPU comes with.

Wait wait wait, stop right here. It's a game, okay? They've got the engine, but still they have the whole source code in their hands (I mean the game engineer's hands or whatever). C++ = everything possible, isn't it? Not trying to be gummy BTW, but this is the reality. -
