This is the best PVP game ever created
bgivenb replied to disastr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you guys like good arma 2 pvp, try the PR mod. Its seriously great www.realitymod.com/downloads#arma2 Its important that while DayZ offers some badass PvP game-play, there are some other mods built just for that, and they can be much more badass PvP wise. I'm ok with PvP in DayZ, but only when necessary. Some players just kill for the rush; not cool, go play PR if thats your game -

"1. Add some moonlight during the night time? Not so much that the map is lit up like daytime. But enough that you can actually see enough to keep playing at night." http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=17751

Rocket - Improvised splints for broken legs?
bgivenb replied to combatcomm1's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
YESSSSSSS!!!!! Im sick of spawning in somplace remote and getting kneecapped and spending the next 30 mins crawling to a town that doesn't have morphine. You should start with stuff for a splint, and it should take considerably longer to fix -
@Forum mods: any reason why my post was merged with one that is almost completely unrelated? I did a search and I am the first to post a suggestion like this. Can I be made the OP again?

For all the people who are saying 'its like irl, you can see at night anyway' well, then I would invite you to take a trip out into the country, far, far away from city lights. Without light pollution, you can see for miles even on dark night. If there was a zombie apocalypse the power grid would be down, thus NO LIGHT POLLUTION. As it is now, the nights are way too dark. To any doubters, you should try to go out into a very remote place, with no cities or towns for miles, and just see what I am talking about.

Now, when you first look up at the ARMA 2 night sky, you probably thought it was just some simple skybox. This, however is just not the case: the ARMA 2 engine takes into account date and time, and calculates the lunar cycle, sunrise, sunset, and all manner of realistic phenomenon. Have you noticed the nights getting progressively darker over the last week or so? That is because, right now, the moon doesn't rise all night during this time of the month. However, if you remember back to around the first of the month, the nights were nice and bright, with a full zombie moon. It made playing DayZ at night not only possible, but since there were so many players at night, it made the night game into something more than just a frantic loot grab in the pitch black. I have a few of screens to show my point: The first two are taken from June 5th at midnight. You can see that even though the moonlight makes navigation possible, players with nvgs can still find plenty of shadows to hide in. [attachment=1234] [attachment=1235] The second two are from tonight at midnight. [attachment=1236] [attachment=1237] as you can see, players with nvgs have a HUGE advantage over regular players, and it makes the game unplayable for most people. TL;DR have a static date that is a good date where the moon is up all night. This would fix the whole 'night is too ****ing dark" bull****

Anyone tried the Double-Barrelled Shotgun yet?
bgivenb replied to FieldMedic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
some dude snuck up behind me and shot both barrels into my back. I turned around, switched to my m16 and unloaded a whole mag in his face. Yeah the new shotgun sucks -
In the past week, over 75 thousand new players have joined the DayZ Alpha. Even if only half of those players didn't own the base game before they downloaded DayZ, BIS would have made.... (drum roll please...) $1,125,000!!! If anyone has more exact info, feel free to add to the thread, but this is just a rough guess. To all the vet Arma 2 players (myself included) DayZ is truly one of the best things to happen to Arma 2 since its release. That's an extra cold million that will go to fixing Arma 2 for everyone, and making an ALREADY awesome looking Arma 3 even better. Not fanboying here, but although there were loads of sweet mods for Arma 2, it's strange and exciting how this is turning out. May BIS always stay true to their modding roots. Cheers and kudos to Rocket and BIS Oh, and I just watched the Czech Republic beat Poland to make it to the quarter finals today in soccer (football for the euros), so I think the guys at BIS are out celebrating two epic wins today

^He's obviously trolling (he used almost every American stereotype out there)
-
lol. well as an American I can say that if there was a DayZ based in America, it would be FAR too easy. Every 3rd house or so would have a locker full of hunting rifles, shotguns, and AR15s stuffed away in some closet. God I love this place (not being xenophobic, I just like how prepared we are for zombies):D In more serous terms, it would be cool if there were some maps that had more enter-able buildings. (maybe the new Czech DLC)

^do you know anything about the engine itself, or are you just speculating? Arma 2 (vanilla) already has a town capture system, as well as a very nice construction system, and (enter island name here) life (mod) already has factories where you can build stuff, and since the towns already have lighting functionality, you could use a pseudo vehicle that looks like a generator and uses fuel. It would take some work, buts its certainly not impossible too often people underestimate the versatility of the engine

was about to download 1.7.1, but now it seems like I will wait for my favorite server to go over before I update (hoping that the Devs and fix this before then) Also, shouldn't this be in the bugs section?

melee is VERY possible

I 100% approve the OP. I think that if you also could set up some kind of electrical generator, you could power your base to have lights, maybe even a radio?

My list of suggestions/complaints for Day Z
bgivenb replied to ExplosiveBanana's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
1: Makes the game more challenging 2: ^see #1 3: ^see #1 4: ^see #1 5: I agree actually. Thats a shitty mechanic, and I think everyone pretty much hates that. 6: ^see #1 7: ^see #1 8: they didn't. There are plenty of good vehicles out there, you just have to find them and fix them up. 9: ^see #1 10: ^see #1 -
I was once being chased with another player that had teamed up with me. Too many zeds and we were running out of ammo. I saved my last 3 shots for his knees and got away walking dead style.

Ok, so I never really turned to banditry; I managed to stay a hard-core survivor/care-bear. Not because I would feel bad for killing people for their gear, but because it's such an adrenaline rush to not SOS and just see what happens-- plus finding loot is half the fun, so if I kill a pro with my starting gun, it takes the fun out of looking for loot. ANYWAY... My friend and I joined up in a server, and had a dastardly plan to loot every bandit within 10km from electro. basically it went like this: We take sniper positions in the hills above the school in electro with our enfeilds. Next, my buddy types over side chat, asking if I was friendly in the school. I respond by saying that I am, but if he can really see me, what gun/backpack do I have? He responds with: 'a DMR and an ALICE'. Im like 'ok, you see me, but dont shoot, bla, bla, bla' over chat, we make it seem like we are having a first contact. I talk about how we should team up, and how I have a GPS, so it would make nav easier. He responds with how he has NVgoggles, so we can see at night. I ask him where he found his M4 silenced and Coyote backpack. We give our location casually over side chat intentionally, by saying things like 'hey, come downstairs of the school, and grab this loot, etc'. Sure enough, one by one, bandits start to congregate on the school, cautiously crawling foreword, hungry for our reported gear, while we sit up in the hills and watch the fun. One bandit enters the school, and after a minute or so, two others enter with eachother. When the three are in the school, we say: 'hey, I hear someone. If you see anyone, blast them.' about 30 secs or so later, we hear a burst of gunfire, followed by another. One of the bandits makes a rush across the street, visibly bleeding through the binocs, only to be taken down by a fourth; a bandit sharpshooter on the hospital roof. we wait about 5 mins and creep down there to shoot the last bandit-- the sharpshooter as we is busy looting one of the bodies. Four down and we only had to fire oe shot XD. Found sooo much good gear. Plus, its not like we were murdering helpless survivors, these guys just killed eachother. TL;DR we killed 4 bandits with one bullet, using a risky ruse

I think I remember from walking dead, someone saying that by killing other survivors, you become no different then one of the zombies. What if we took that literally? If your mortality gets below a certain point (say -10000), you actually become a zombie; you cant carry an weapons, etc, but you can still melee attack other survivors, and you have more health then a regular zed. Cool, right?
