I bought Arma II and AO so I could try the hottest game / mod seen in ages. I've tried Arma II and stuff, but it's DayZ that I love. Since then I've been playing DayZ Epoch, and have been driving tanks and tons of different helis and getting tons of different weapons, including stingers and grenade launchers and stuff. It's been an incredible ride and the energy behind the mod is just amazing. I just bought the SA yesterday and am cutting my teeth on it, but it was no question, I wanted to see Rocket's passion and finally throw money at what I was actually enjoying.

Only 2 hours here and I of course am fumbling with controls and the new inventory system. Most frustrating is staring loot in the face and not being able to pick it up. I saw matches on a chair, and a motorcycle helmet in a corner, but no pixel perfect pointing got the take object option. I've been reading other threads and I guess using the inventory key will show it in the vicinity window. Have not tired that. Also agree flashlight is not worth it, it does not point in a useful direction so I just gamma max. I've been whipping it out from time to time in buildings but it is very hard to use. I also noticed that the servers are active and I'd guess at least 300 people are playing at any given time, so nice job there. I also signed up for the bug tracker but there are alread 1,300+ bugs so you really have to search and stuff if you want the tracking to be effective. You also need someone to categorize the bugs and so on. Hiring?

Also, excellent patch, I try to give constructive criticism but don't laud the efforts enough, and I really find it difficult to play my other games like skyrim or deus ex human revolution. The game just never gets old. :D

TL;DR Rest in a tent to cure infection. The stunning blond guy (SmashT) turned me on to the "rest" option on a deployed tent, so now I carry a tent and have cured myself multiple times using it. I'm fairly loaded but prefer an ax/machete to a gun now and I've killed more z's than I can count. To cure yourself: Deploy tent Select "rest" If cured, pack tent and continue game. If not, wait 5 minutes before retrying step 2. I had to rinse and repeat 6 times last night and was shaking and near death when finally cured. I went on another killing spree and after eating 3 cans of beans, I'm now I'm just blurry but not shaking.

I'll never forget my first time. Spent hours and hours repairing a helicopter to fly it for 35 seconds before crashing. Greatest thrill ever. Biplane too. Now I can fly much better (but cannot land the biplane). It is very fun to fly around and I suggest trying it. What else are you going to do? Hide? Player kill? Survival is boring if there is nothing to do so I pretty much try to find a toolbox and fix vehicles, that's a challenge. And learning how to fly.

I know the game is difficult but I didn't expect it to be in tents.

Conspiracy theorists could think: Game is secretly trying to teach us Russian. Game is secretly trying to turn us into commies. Game is secretly trying to brainwash us into ... zombies. So, great idea! Mayday and false flag ambush style radio also has huge potential.

Perhaps all those empty cans are telling me something, like throw them and sneak more. I keep forgetting that and moving at running speed feels slow once you've supped on a vehicle using yon shift key.

I also found a Holy Book in one of the apartments in Cherno. I thought the Gideons were playing or something, but then I also found nails. Guys?? It would be cool if you put it on on the Holy House altar to open up the apse in back for loot. Or find a hammer and nail some zeds to a post. Or summon Shaitan and burn them with fire.

Zombies in 1.7.7 are a real threat now, even without the *cough* infection. Some are stronger. They can hit very quickly. I was trying to be super careful looking for the new spawn spots in Kamenka, and of course got spotted so made a run for it. One technique is to make a sharp turn around the corner of a building. Well, surprise, there was a zombie there and he popped me right in the gut, down I went, and dinner time for the zombies. Very scary. On the other hand, I was just running along and some zombie got a piece of me form what seemed like too far away, infected after just 1 hit. >:(

*cough* *cough* *cough* *cough* .... I don't mind getting knocked to the ground from 5m away, or 20 zombies chasing me non-stop, but getting an infection with no antibiotics makes the game more of a hide-my-body game than what was DayZ. I tried the eat and eat approach while looking for meds but after repeating the process for some 4-5 hours last evening, I concluded that it is hopeless to find antibiotics and you're better off dying somewhere convenient. Seriously my new video card is working hardest to make a black and white image shake. Sigh. Please rebalance the statistics tables.

I saw 3 helis in formation flying over a 2-bit town in Origins. Thought whatever, got out from cover to go to try and loot and find a toolbox after hours of looking. One of the helis started hovering over the town, and I got nervous so I went to a barn but I could hear it overhead so I figured the player would get bored and leave/land. Nope. Just hovered over the barn then I started hearing the ricochet noises, like they were trying to shoot me through the barn. WTF? I spent the next 1/2 hour trying to escape this thing and texting on side chat if there were bandit npcs in helis? The answer was yes. Scary!

Neanderthals. Maybe have a DayBC mod, early human tribe based game where wild animals and other primates try to exterminate you. Guns and ammo? Nope, Just the atlatl and flint knapping.

Hand grenades that you can only get in the church.

I cannot believe I play this game with you children. I'm 42.

TL;DR yes, buy it if you can. It's neato. There was a similar argument about Left4Dead2 I'm very happy to have played both. I'm intentionally avoiding Minecraft so I can focus on DayZ. For one thing, the models are better. Still, it was a big mistake not allowing girls to wear camo/etc. If I'm going to watch someone's backside for hours, female is better. Tomb Raider understood this well.

New maps (liking Thirsk atm) were really a nice addition. I was frustrated a bit with high pop public Cherno, but the amazing energy of the community keeps me at the game. One guy picked me up in a car when I had no idea where I was (no map) and taught me shift clicking in the map. Another time 3 players picked me up in a helicopter and we went from heli crash site to heli crash site. The pilot was very good too. Same server has a KOS player that killed me earlier (and destroyed my car when I complained that we were the only two players on-line and I had extra matches, toolbox and knife for new players in the car). But such variability is unlike anything I've played and Skyrim continues to gather dust 1/2 done with a neglected waifu.

Try sliding down a ladder,must be safe, it's an option. Nope, broke legs. No morphine, had to climb up ladder and jump off a few times to die. Upgrade ax to 1911, run into building with two exits while kiting a dozen z's. Accidentally enter room with single exit. Empty 1911 in panic move, click click click broke legs, unconscious, die. Server restarted, body gone. Plain ole ax would have meant survival. Be in vehicle during server start/reconnect. Appear standing in exact spot as vehicle but not in it. Any movement causes you to get run over and die. "Autopilot", e.g. using a paper clip to hold down W while trekking to some destination. Get distracted, for hours. Log back in and you are deep in the ocean with no land in sight. Try swimming back to shore for 3 hours, disconnecting just before dehydration kills you (logging in fills blood, no idea why), gave up. Hackers used to be a problem. Teleported up in the air so you fall and die. Teleported to north airfield for dance of death. Ejected and killed from moving vehicle for no apparent reason. Still love the game, currently on unpopular Thirsk server, repairing attack heli, have 3 vehicles, FAL /w night vision, g36, missing night vision/ghillie/tent(s).

Jump. I really hate it when I cannot jump in an FPS. To me, spacebar == jump. If WASD is cannon, then spacebar is jump. What if David Lee Roth starts urging me? Get it and crouch! Crouch! I understand some of the larger backpacks make jumping difficult, and this is a realistic sim, but... jump. Bust a move. I've seen the dancing dying death animations as done but the elisive but everywhere hackers. Yet saluting seems more silly than illustrating your friedlyness than busting a move in the apocolypse. Young MC would be proud. More vehicles! Scarcity encourages hoarding IRL, hacking (nee duping) in 'replicators exist' land. More vehicles == less shenanigans. If I have to learn another 20 keyboard commands to drive, let me drive. Ride them horses. Satifies not only more vehicles, but presents a unique vehicle that is refuled with water bottles and wood piles and has blood. Can kill for meat. Consider the dynamic. Fix the girls. No camo/ghillie? Are you nuts? Opt to spawn next to someone. If they kill you fine, but you could start with a partner too. Add your own really crappy idea!

Only 2 (I'm one of them). But... dog! So I feel pretty safe ramping up my guy. And looking forward to dog. Hey, spawn with an 1866 and a 1911, map. nice. shootin' time.
