Ho ho hold the fuck up. Some people get more out of playing the game. Some people get more out of programming a game. This is Win-Win people! Innovation is key to everyone, and mods of the SA are a great idea. Epoch is a beautiful distraction, and while not the nail biting experience with DayZ, it is quite fun to access so many vehicles. DayZ SA is not an end. It's a milestone. Have you even heard of the Oculus Rift? I'm this --> <--- close to making an arduino activate a servo to trigger a taser when I get shot in the SA. That's realism!

The helicopter crash sites were cool, but how about active crashes? Like some anonymous military jet comes screaming out of the sky and slams into the ground. A helicopter that suddenly starts spiriling out of control and slams into a building? Some rare but badly damaged loot?
-
SKS is semi, just saying, loaded from a stripper clip. For a single shot jobbie, how about a Shiloh Sharps?

The books are a social reminder that a life of video games is empty and you should read a damn book once in a while. Or write. Hello, what's this a pen? OMG paper! Are you not inspired? Was the pen pristine? Was the paper badly damaged? Use the pipe wrench and duct tape, friend! Put it in a burlap sack and call it a romance. On Christmas Day everyone is going to run around in their underwear. No PVP, just like WWI. Don't miss it.

Is it worth buying Dayz standalone yet? [With Developer responses]
Phineas replied to Blade4777980's topic in General Discussion
I had to explain to my kids how it was different. The more I had to explain the more I realized how much I like the SA. Motorcycle helmets are new, look no drink, eating or health bars, all hidden. No, cannot make waypoints. See how I have just 1/2 a map? The compass works like this (took me ages, but equip, spacebar, 1st person view) and it is more like real life, you cannot have waypoints without a GPS and all I have is a compass and a map. As to space, what a premium without tents. I gave up a cooking pot because making rice seems like a lot of equipment when I could get by with cans. You need a gas tank, a stove I guess, the pot, and whatever you're going to cook, like rice I guess. Early in the game all you see is rotten food, not sure why since it makes you sick. Maybe you can cook it? -
I found an antibiotic bottle and started filling syringes with it, but it duped the syringes, fyi. I have not eaten anything rotten so I don't know if it works, no injections yet.

Hi! I had a wood splitting axe and that seemed to open cans but when I upgraded to a fireman's axe, I can no longer seem to open cans. Also I see tons of seemingly useless tools: Screwdriver: what for? Pliers: what for? Pipe wrench: what for? Knife: what for? Adjustable wrench: what for? I am, after getting tons of gear, close to passing out (death essentially) because I cannot open cans. What opens cans besides the difficult to find can opener? Thanks!

Dragged fire axe over can and it worked, thanks! :) Still world is b&w and will have difficulty getting back to color...

Hello, I hunkered down and spent some 7 hours getting gear, the m4, the pistol, vest, cargo pants, etc. The collection involved getting hit a few times. Now the world is blurry but I want it crisp again and have no idea how to do that. No can opener but I have food, drink, bandages, carried two medical kits for a while. I found a vial of antibiotics and filled syringes with it. There is a bug here, it dupes syringes. I've also been randomly teleported with loss of all keyboard/mouse input while sprinting. But what I want most is clear vision, and I don't know how to get more blood so to speak. Does eating even help? Thank you.

making rotation blur zero did the trick! :)

I had a saline bag and iv starter and combined them into a salien iv but I cannot use it. It is in my hands but action, aka f, does nothing, and clicking only allows me to inspect.

if there are no warnings in the inventory, are you full? I'm pretty on top of that.

First impression of SA: You'd better be adept at the ArmA II mod of DayZ or you will have a bad time. Loot tables are awful. Very difficult to find squat. Lone wolf (aka new players) is nigh impossible. Zombies move through buildings great, floors matter not. Your best bet is a motorcycle helmet and a backpack. After that, you are a target. Contrast that with DayZ Epoch: I have tents filled with swag. TV guns (b&w bio scope, so cool) Helis, and the admins added streetlights for night time. I bought the SA and have had motorcycle helmets and map fragments, a chest holster and cans of food, but it is hard as heck staying fed and watered, not to mention the veterans with rifles that will kill you after spending a crazy amount of time acquiring a back pack and helmet, and you never saw a rifle or handgun. I'd like to make this crystal clear: Veterans are harming newcomers to the game, veterans are too good at it, and newbies will be discouraged. Explosions of kudos if this is what you wanted, a narrow niche game for early adopters that guaranteed a narrow following. A rain of Hell's firy boulders if you wanted newbies to yearn some fun but instead be schooled at every spawn. Not withstanding that I knowingly bought the alpha, but as a veteran, the game really hates newcomers. "You are unconscious" says my monitor. This realistic put-off is pushing me to a game I can play. Please, please, never forget, this is a game. Frustrating players right away is not going to work.

I'm doing that right now. I have a drill bit wedged between the 2 and 3 keys holding down W as I type. Got roughed up trying the dreaded bare fist technique, hearing "ahhh ugh.." over and over with a female avitar. Nothing new.

Dayz Minecraft "Bukovka" Inspired Chernarus Map! (Feedback Pls!)
Phineas replied to 2epicpanda's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wow, unreal! My kids play minecraft and tons of mods to it, so I'll tune them into it when it is released! Great work!! :D -
What a healthy discussion! I'm glad the vets are innocent, I am one. And I can fly a heli pretty well. However, the first time I flew one lasted some 35 seconds before I crashed. Given their rarity at the time it was very thrilling but a bit disappointing too. Also, the ArmaII Boot Camp allowed me to understand more of the controls instead of the SA's menu system. I did not intend a flame war, instead I wanted to give feedback on the alpha. I think we're supposed to do that. I even voted on some bugs (but have not filed one yet). One misunderstanding some people had was that I was complaining that the game is too hard for me. I'm not talking about me. I'm talking about newcomers, and I want a lot of newbs, tons and tons and tons, so the game is a financial success. If it is, DayzII or DayzWithStoryline or whatever can come next.
-
With all due respect, you reek of veteran. I am a vet. All this coast versus inland loot is not obvious to someone who just bought the game. Here, I'm amazed at the additions, the buidings you can enter and the high rises nearn Cherno/Electro. Sure it is Chernarous which is disappointing but has tons of enhancements.
-
Pride, I think. Hurbris? Scads of justification for loving what was made. Let me put it this way, to borrow from reddit: Explain the DayZ SA to me like I am a 5 year old. Emphasize how veterans will shoot me on sight.
-
Eldrige, nice attitude. Patience is a virtue, and anyone who has stuck with DayZ is rife with the patience virtue. While many feel that this is enough for the game, I disagree. Perhaps the one wholesome virtue Dayz performs is the bestowment of patience upon her players.
-
Again it is not my experience that should be considered. Think that you want a friend to try this game. How much time will you spend teaching them ArmaII controls? Then DayZ specific controls? Then the dynamic of the game which is controversial? [actually the most fun part of the game] And at which point do they start having fun? A boot camp for the SA is needed I think. Heck it sounds like fun already.
-
I appreciate the feedback. You, me, and everyone we know is passionate about the game. My feedback is that, as of the SA, you are thrown into the fire. Not even the DayZ mod did this, you could do the ArmaII boot camp and learn to shoot and fly a heli. The SA has NONE of this. It should have a nerfed environment to get people up to speed. I am not butt hurt because I suck at DayZ. I want to see it succeed. Maybe because I want a bunch of sucky people to play, but that defines honor. Anyone else feel me?
-
Bear in mind this is still derived from Arma II, and weirdo commands like c to run, x to crouch, z to go prone, etc are quite alien to newcomers. Amra II has boot camp, maybe DayZ can have Nerf Camp, were zeds are slow, spawns are rich, and friendly fire is disabled? Certainly boring to vets, but a nice intro to a difficult game for noobs? Or do you just plunge them into the ArmA universe? You do NOT want to alienate newcomers. Frame that any way you want, say I'm against pvp if it makes you feel better, but the question is far more complex. How do you give a first timer an experience that they will want to expand on, without frustrating them? Call me crazy but DayZ SA should seriously address this. Like a decaying startup, start with an AK but decay over plays to standard load out? Are you all orthodox or what?
-
It is precisely the people who have never played the mod that you should be listening to. No, veterans would be offended if they could not play the game, but noobs should have a fighting chance. As it stands you have to understand loot is scarce and you have to spend huge amounts of time to acquire stuff, and to add insult to injury, you can be killed by a vet, often. As a veteran of this game, I can tolerate that. Newbies wont. They will see a lop sided game.

Plan on buying SA Tomorrow(How does your character save)
Phineas replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
Budget time to download it. Took about 4 hours when no one else was using the ADSL
