    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

Yeah true enough, I realize a fair bit of it had already been suggestivly suggested on reddit that it might appear in the standalone(I did note that where I could recall I had seen it) and some of these things probably have appeared elsewhere in this thread, but..since im way too lazy to read a whooping 50 pages+, I figured I'd brainstorm instead. Couldnt hurt, right? As for the "ghosts at green mountain", that wasnt an entirely serious suggestion. But hey, I wouldnt complain if supernatural stuff started happening. It would be scary and there are plenty of things around that arent that realistic already. But yeah, point taken, perhaps it bring the experience too much towards "horror" and too far from "survival". Im all for prioritising the later.

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

Call me crazy, but I'd rather not have child zombies in the game. Sure, they would raise the "terror factor" something fierce(undead kids moaning and running after you trying to eat you? amagawd), but gunning down "people" is bad enough. Kids would just draw parallels to some horrors of war. Perhaps some consider that appropriate in a zombie survival. I'd just consider it unneccecery. ...and if that "children survival skin" thing was serious, please, just no. Also, something people asking about better visuals should keep in mind: Performance issues. As I said before(somewhere), Arma 2 is demanding as it is, Arma 3 is a bit of a -monster-. Im pretty sure the developers of DayZ keeps this in mind, as I dont think they want their customers PCs to melt to a pile of goo. All this being said, I would love to see the following thing in the standalone(which I will definetly buy even if I dont see any of these things) - A well developed crafting system (Food recipies, gun augmentations, vehicles, make-shift explosives etc etc) - Horses as mounts! (I belive Rocket said something about this) and more animals in general - Coffee (Yes, you didnt misread.) - More guns (I heard "Find at home" common weaponry would be implemented but more military weapons would be nice too. Diversity is good.) - More traps (Perhaps part of the crafting system, but more traps that you could make or find would be really neat.) - Connected maps (Eventually. I realize this wouldnt be Alpha material, but it would be really neat if, eventually, you'd have different map models connected if you would head to the edges of the Chernarus map.) - More story material (I read something along the lines that there would be a few things about this, but the more background and story the player can dig up, the better) - Diaries! Or notepads or something! (Would be really interesting if you could loot these from other players. Could be part of the story material if you got some from zombies) - The ability to repair wrecks of vehicles (An idea of mine that would require you to have a -lot- of spare parts and a lot of work, much more so then fixing an "intact" vehicle. Would at least partially solve the clan-hoarding problem many servers are facing. If repair would not be an option, perhaps at least scavenge from vehicles? Oh and worthy of note: The few tank and BMP wreckages around would be an exception, as that would be a tad OP.) - Secret scary stuff. (Like, ghosts at Green Mountain that will only not attack you if you have a mountain dew, and would be hard as hell to kill. Or rare wood-climbing zombies that would be insanely dangerous. Or perhaps scary female zombies inspired from the witches of left4dead.) - Roaming zombie hordes (Spawn a few roaming zombie hordes of massive size. Main problem with this I suppose would be performance-related, but I think the cheer awesomeness-potential outweighs the downsides.) - More types of food (Related to crafting and cooking. I dont want to diminish the saintly status of the can of baked beans, but a greater diversity in drinks and food would be interesting. Would be even more interesting if they had some different minor qualities. ) - Radios (Since the removal of the blue channel, which I miss but understand why it was removed, I think it might be a good idea to bring back a method of long-range communications that doesnt involve the direct communications-channel. As I've understood it, these items used to be in the game, so maybe the concept was already thought of. ) ...that's all the brainstorming I could provide for now but I will probably add more later!
  3. I'd say about 25 days(I cant remember exactly), and I was probably away for about 7 of those. So..eh..18 days? And I usually try to stay on low to mid-population servers. Not because I hate contact with other players(its an interesting and essential element to the game) but because I -dont- want to get scripted(and that chance skyrockets the more players there are on the servers) and because it would be nice to find a vehichle once in a while. Good luck with either on a max-pop server. Oh, and yes, number of days survived isnt really an indicator of survival skills, as earlier replies mentioned.
  4. Figured I'd post something of a summary of mine(and my friends) experience with 1.7.2.6 so far. Confirmed fixes (confirmed as in: This has worked for me and all of my buddies) + Vechiles and their inventory now save correctly. (of course, remember the save function!) + Tents and their inventory now save correctly. (as with vechiles, use that sexy save function!) + All graphics glitches except barbed wire gone (and they are minor at most) New bugs (again, from the experience of me and my buds) - Vechiles spawn with empty fuel tanks after server restarts (Imo a minor issue, you just need to make sure you have a couple of jerry cans. I can imagine its a pain if you like fully fueled heli's though) - Debug monitor causing your other life indicators to "freeze up" and not update. (again, a most minor issue and not really anything even remotely game-breaking. hell to me I dont even consider this a bug at all) I've yet to try the flip function so I suppose I'll get back on that after some experimenting. I can tell though that there is a lot of traffic on the 35% (or so) of the servers that have updated to 1.7.2.6, which can quite easily be taken as a sign that this patch has made this mod funny to play again. ...now if only that massive excess of new players would choose a different server then mine so I dont get hyper-paranoid of getting a sniper-bullet to the brain everytime I crawl out of some foliage. :<
  5. I can confirm that graphic bugs are largely annihilated for me and my friends, with the rare exception of barbed wire(very minor glitches). Im confused on the barbed wire though, because I saw a poll on these forums asking wether we should remove barbed wire or not just prior to the patch launch, and im fairly sure a vast majority said "please remove them". And they're still in the game. All that being said, it seems like this patch has solved a lot of critical issues, so beans to Rocket and the DayZ team!
  6. If they are still causing graphic glitches for people, then yes. If the glitches have been solved in the update(god, I hope so) then no. They arent that awfully useful, but they are still a somewhat nice feature in basebuilding.

1.7.3 - Lets Wipe the Hive

Even though I've managed to stay alive for quite long and gotten myself decent enough gear, I do favor this idea. Especielly if it means resetting vechiles on servers as well (im still not entirely sure on how that works though). I've recently been experiencing more and more the agony and pain of finding vechiles, as it seems more and more clans favor the idea of selfishly hoarding more then they could possibly use. A clean slate is badly needed, especielly if it gets the mod back in an enjoyable fashion.

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

I think leaning towards the more tested Arma2 rather then the very untested Arma3-engine is a good call. "2.5" was a bit sketchy but if the standalone is still in Chernarus(or Chernarus-Plus), then it seems to be leaning more towards Arma2 then 3. For starters, when Arma2 was released precious few computers could handle the game at top settings. Its still a bit of a monster, so who knows how demanding Arma3 will be? Maybe it'll melt all but the best of computers, maybe it wont. Thing is though, a lot of people that play dayZ dont have top-of-the-line-hardware, and it would imo be a poor choice to demand such from them, when the game really does not need that -splendid- graphics to pull off what its suppose to pull off: A zombie survival game. The issue is instead I think trying to sort out the "rough" mechanics of the Arma-engines rather then to make things more "shiny". I'd rather have things work more smoothly then look more sparkly.

All players with vehicles are hackers?

Fixed a UAZ that had almost everything broken today. It helps having friends with you that can spread out and search for parts. ...of course then the said UAZ ended up being "liberated" from our possession a few hours later. If you really want to find vechiles, you need to focus on it. Find a loot-map online somewhere and check at the usual spawn-sites. Very small chance for each spot, but if you put down enough time on it you'll find something eventually.
  10. Loot spawn, almost exclusivly. I do come across the occassional tent but ever since the tents stopped working, there's (obviously)been precious little in them.
  11. This has probably been said a million times already but I'll throw in my voice. As of now, 1.7.2.5 unfortunetly appears more broken then its predecessor patch . My personal experience, after having tried a multitude of servers(more then a dozen) and having had roughly the same experience on all of them, is this: - The graphic issues were gone...for a while. It took a roughly half a day, and then the issues gradually returned. Now I think they're actually worse then before. No change between servers whatsoever and messing with graphics or using the flush command has little to no effect. As before, I have the biggest problems with soldier corpses, and no issues with barbed wire. Although some of my friends have minor problems from barbed wire too. - Coast spawning on server change now happens very frequently, but it varies highly depending on the server. Changing between servers now appears to be quite risky. I read somewhere that this is a result of different servers using different hives, and that its not the patch's fault? Im not an expert so I dont know. I do know however that me and my friends are suddenly ending up on the coasts a lot more, and we're not really changing servers that often. At least not more then we used to. - Major tent/vechile saving issue. As of 1.7.2.5, all tents and vechiles are completly broken, in the way that items you store in them dissepear. I have experimented around and it doesnt matter if I deploy new tents, save tents, pack and re-deploy tents or if someone else does it: After a server restart, the items stored in tents(and vechiles) always revert back to a pre 1.7.2.5 list of items. Vechiles and tent locations are saved, just not the contents put in them. Previous to 1.7.2.5, I found the graphics bug mighty annoying as it made visiting military areas a pain in the behind. But the tent saving bug strikes me as something more severe, as it is litterly impossible to use camp sites or vechiles to store essentials for you or your squad mates. And that, at least to me, is a big charm with the game. Its true that they could be bugged before(server restarts sometimes do the funkiest of things), but them constantly, with 100% accuracy, annihilating all stored contant after 1.7.2.5...that's a tad much. Looking forward to a fix for this.
