Dayz - The engine of disconnected unresponsive controls
DJT (DayZ) replied to Zacharybinx34's topic in General Discussion
I don't know what MMOs you've been playing, but I've never seen one even come close to the view distances in DayZ / ARMA. Maybe some render mountains in the distance or something, but I bet you couldn't zoom in and see a person climbing that mountain from 1000m away... -
Why are people complaining about KOS like it's a feature issue?
DJT (DayZ) replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
KoS is always going to exist, and it should. If it were a real zombie apocalypse / survival situation, you'd have some people doing the same thing. Maybe they would be bandits, or thinking they were acting in self defense, or maybe they would just be so desperate for supplies that they had no choice, but they'd be doing it. You wouldn't survive very long in the real world trying to run up and make friends with every random stranger you find strolling around with an arsenal of weapons strapped to them. You would either avoid people, or take them out before they did the same to you. Besides, not everyone is going to want to play this game the same way. That's what makes player encounters intense, because you have no idea what other people are going to do. Perfect example: a friend and I are running around last night and get surrounded by a squad of very well armed players (probably server hopped until they were all loaded up with fully modded M4s and other gear, but that's beside the point). Clearly, these guys wanted to disarm us and take us as prisoners, or maybe just get us to stop moving so they could kill us without wasting bullets and then take our food. Either way, they approached very aggressively with guns drawn and tried to order us to surrender. Sorry, but we have no interest in being led around for hours handcuffed, having people drain our blood, bark orders at us like we are pets, etc... We took a couple of them out with our axes, died, respawned, and continued playing on our new characters. As far as I'm concerned, it was self defense, and even if they had approached in a more friendly manner, we'd have probably done the same thing. Now, maybe people will say that what we did is the entire problem, because we knew we could just respawn and start over again. That's not realistic, right? When all is said and done, it's still just a game. Short of hooking everyone up to their computer and administering a lethal injection upon in-game death, you're never going to get people to play as if they only have one life. And even then, you'd still have KoS. In fact, you'd probably have even more KoS because who is seriously going to trust somebody they just met with their life? I know there's a segment of the DayZ community that wants to run around making friends with everyone, or capture people / get captured and role play those scenarios, but I just don't think it's a realistic goal to try and get the whole community to play that way. I don't think it's a good idea to penalize people for playing the way they want to play, either. -
Same issue... Shadowplay doesn't work with DayZ SA (works with other games) and causes freezes when hitting the record hot keys or alt-tabbing. System: GeForce GTX 680 i7-3770K @ 3.5 GHz 16 GB RAM 250GB SSD Windows 7 Pro Running dual monitors and using the latest drivers and version of GFE. No luck with anything. Just went back to OBS to record gameplay until they fix it.

A simple and effective fix for night time gamma "cheating"
DJT (DayZ) replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
Personally, I don't want to play the game only at night (which seems to be how it is now, due to available play times) AND have it be so dark that I can't do anything without constantly having some sort of man-made light. Having a pitch black environment is not realistic. If you go outside at night when there are some stars visible and the moon is out, your eyes are going to adjust and you're going to be able to see. You aren't going to need a flashlight or headlamp to see your own hand in front of your face, and that seems to be what some people want nighttime DayZ to be like. -
There should be different ways to hide/store items, besides giant light-colored tents or vehicles that cannot be hidden well. Perhaps a new kind of "Ghillie Tent" that is much better camouflaged. Or, maybe we could create an in-ground, discreet supply cache using the entrenching tool. It is currently a little bit ridiculous that people can get the one helicopter on the server and just fly around mapping out every single tent and vehicle in an area. The stuff is extremely easy to see from the air due to the restrictions on placement and the lack of good hiding spots with thick foliage and canopy to protect from air detection.

I don't agree with this idea... There are enough ways to get injured and/or die in this game and the penalties for death are about extreme as they can get (lose everything and possibly have a nice hour long run back to wherever you died, plus whatever time you spend getting basic gear before you make the trip). There is also a high risk in securing blood bags, due to the select places they spawn. I don't know, this just sounds like more tedious inventory management and stumbling around the clunky UI trying to heal up your squad while not accidentally shooting them in the face ;) If anything were to be changed regarding health and healing items, I would much rather have them add a way for solo players to use blood bags on themselves, perhaps for a reduced amount (like 6,000 max, instead of 12,000). It seems to be really common for zombies to get a one-shot bleed on people and this really takes its toll on a solo player who is trying to scavenge for items... especially in the day time. The downside of doing this, however, would be possible balance issues during group encounters.
