I especially like the idea of having ammo that is currently loaded into the weapon appear in the bottom left of its frame.

The most comprehensive one-page cheat-sheet weapons info
Cavan replied to Jehangir's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Are you sure about those damage numbers? Isn't there also a large initial bleed value that happens upon being hit by a rifle? -
I guess because it's possible to aggressively misquote and misunderstand some things Rocket have said in interviews and in general, and because it's always more difficult to cut out content than it is to add it. People get accustomed to what they had before and so when you take it away they mourn its loss and talk a lot of nonsense in the process (but I guess most of us are guilty of that at some time or another) Everybody and anybody who mentions deathmatching, CoD or advocates a flawed binary bandit system that tells them what to shoot without any thought required on their part, have gone so far off the plot that I genuinely worry for them. There are less altruistic reasons not to shoot people, chief amongst which is that shooting people is loud with 95% of the weapons and any place you are likely to bump in to prey is also likely to have other people to prey on you and your fresh kill. Alerting zombies and firing gunshots will always make it easy for other people to come and ruin your success. Most of my deaths while alone are making a risk assessment of going down to loot a kill i've made and taking one in the back while being temporarily blind and immobile.

Not true, it is called the M4A1 HWS M203, it would be the only useful grenade launcher platform, the m16 m203 having doubly terribly iron sights which severely limit its use as a rifle beyond short range. I have seen it spawn multiple times in the barracks, it is less rare than most of the sniper rifle and 'high tier' weapons. So if he has that variant then it is not a spawned item, if it is just a holographic M4 alone then it is.

I feel like there needs to be a good balance in game. Cities should have mostly or exclusively slow zombies, you're at high risk from players anyway and any shot right now comes almost down to having the zombies surround the building you're in and slowly shamble in from every entrance, anyway. 1. Give them limited ability to climb the building or find alternate entrances like windows so it doesn't come down to shooting through one or two murder zones. 2. Give slower zombies the ability to grab and slow down players, making them an easier target for everything else on the server. 3. Give walker zombies a much higher chance of infecting players. Further out in small elite groups the faster zombies should lead and identify targets calling in walkers over larger distances. I don't think there should be more than 2 or 3 in any one area, 2 or 3 current zombies is enough that a single mistake or missed shot can harm you, and firing at all gives away your location massively, have them run at 100% player sprint speed with no or less speed loss due to stamina. Fast zombies play the role of leading/scouting/alerting as well as distracting from the main horde. Fast zombies should also be more alert while slow zombies should be very inattentive. Also the occasional mob of walkers lead by a runner would be nice.

From experience how many shots does it take with the AKM to kill a player?
Cavan replied to Deadly7's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's normal for all weapons, desync being what it is. The AKM will probably take somebody out in one shot from up to around 150m, random gut number. Beyond that you will probably have to go up and shoot the unconscious body a second time. -
I too want to marry a random log in the forest some day, i've been working up the courage to pop the question but it always sticks in my throat. Then the log just looks at me expectantly and I get all embarrassed and run away crying.

Not sure if serious.. Will respond as if serious. Do you notice the $3000 price tags of both of those and the general light hearted tone of the whole thing?

No, while hacking may be an issue blanket saying that people who lose their gear were using hacked items intentionally or not is wrong. What has more likely happened in the past is char inventories/states/locations have become corrupted and lost, or because of the Arma X bug you've ended up having another person shoved into your character by accident and it's gone haywire from there. There's no way to get back what was lost i'm afraid, it happened to me once the day after I reported having the character ID switching bug. Lost my first DMR that way.

A lot of people complain about getting sniped, which is fair enough. However a lot of people seem to forget that snipers themselves are actually the greatest source of gear to new players, take the time to learn the common sniping spots and hunt them, my brothers. Here are a few reasons why the average sniper is actually the greatest loot spawn possible: 1. They usually have low awareness of their surroundings. 2. They often have a burning desire to never move. Point 2 is compounded by the fact that they already have everything, and are thus not going to take the time to loot the players they are sniping. This also makes them wonderful to headshot with low tier weapons that would not normally be good in a firefight. 3. They flock to commonly known locations that give the best vantage points. 4. Their weapon of choice is super loud, however they often have very useful backup weapons in their bags which you can enjoy using. 5. They make sure they have lots of food, drink and ammo available so that they can continue sniping for as long as they want. So next time you hear a sniper, don't run in fear, just remember that he is an all expenses paid buffet with your name on. Utilize this plentiful bounty that has been placed before you.

I did specify 'average' snipers in my OP, unfortunately for you :/. 'Lotta people out to ruin a semi serious thread :<

*bows* To be fair, most of the time he has been arguing against himself.

I know I said I wouldn't , but I can't resist you, my sweet cupcake. Again you play around with your own points (what we in the 'industry' call a straw man), I said the gear was easy (because it is, being all in one place, quite often in common locations) and made no reference at all in any post to the relative power levels of anything being related to anything else. The only qualification I will be associated with is a fruity little comment about their noise levels which are a touch towards the sky, if I may say so. What you are doing is a most vivacious display of dissociative reading efficacy and one is rather perturbed to find you here on the forums instead of frolicking amongst the wild flowers putting your most encyclopaedic knowledge of weapons to merry use. I should hope that my daringly mangled English has put a cur such as yourself in your rightful place, that will be £20 for the service (Including VAT, naturally, I'm no monstrosity). If you'd like to be put anywhere else, that's extra.

I'm going to guess that my response made no sense to you probably because your original one was based off of some weird assumption you originally made that I was disputing or contradicting anything you said in your post in my OP. Or that this applies to me personally. I do not need to be educated in how spawns or weapon tiers work (note, there's a reason almost everything you define as garbage in your cute little tier list is a secondary weapon, the only exceptions I can think of are the unsilenced mp5 and basic shotgun and winchester), I made this thread just as a funny little morale booster for people to look at snipers differently, I personally have no problem with them.

It really is pretty loud, not the loudest, but still very loud. The m107 does sound like some sort of car crash though.
-
The only place I have found this is not the case is generally Stary, it just has too many sniping locations for you to not be vulnerable and visible while hunting. Every other location it is generally more effective to try and weed out the snipers than it is to loot the area. When I go to stary I generally stay quite some ways in the forest looking for snipers moving in to position, if you are patient being up near-ish the two deer stands is usually a good places to see sniper movement from. Cherno additionally has the advantage of being very easy to counter snipe the snipers from the hillside while they play around on the rooftops of various buildings, only problem is then looting your rewards.

DayZ Creator Ponders a Free-to-Play Standalone Version
Cavan replied to pr0cess's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think you did originally overreacted based on what F2P and microtransactions don't actually mean in the current market, Patient Zero. Your examples were kinda bad :/, it would be more like "hey do you want a new set of faces?" or "hey do you want to play on a dedicated server with hired admin?" or "hey do you want a different starting skin?" rather than "hey do you want to buy an alice pack as your starter pack?" or something. Not that my examples are really much better, but in general F2P as a thing is nothing to worry about. Not that I think this would even go down that route either. -
For balancing, running with both weapons holstered should be a bit quieter than running with a weapon/faster/less resource consuming.

Rezzed & 1.7.2
Cavan replied to joshuagregory91@hotmail.co.uk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't feel like it's too much of a problem, Rocket has shown that he's willing to add things to patches any chance he gets. I'd be willing to wager a few cans of beans that due to the delays things which were going to be included in later patches have made their way in to 1.7.2. And while I may occasionally go "grargh where r patch?!" half jokingly to myself and people who are probably bored of hearing that..the current version is stable and enjoyable for the majority (sorry Arma X guys :<) -
