The Trusted Mentors of the Wasteland
Dr Wasteland MD replied to joebob's topic in New Player Discussion
This is a new Division of the Trusted Medics of the Wasteland. If you need some help learning how to play the game or just need someone to go over one specific aspect that you might be having trouble with, please use this service. We have mentors standing by, myself one of them, and we're looking forward to the new experiences that this is likely to promote. Take care. -
The Coalition - Changing the Culture of DayZ
Dr Wasteland MD replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No events planned yet, we're more working on bringing in new organizations. But we really should plan for an event, I'll keep that in mind. -
I've been debating making this thread for awhile, but here it is. I want to have a relationship with an honorable bandit. I'm looking for someone who delights in the thrill of the hunt. Someone who has stories of their exploits and is recognizable. Someone who can say "yes, I kill people, but I do it without hacking, exploiting the game, or ghosting." Really, I'm looking for the kind of bandit that most survivors would like to talk to and hear from - someone who is a respected enemy. Send me a pm if you think you are that person.

Looking to help small medic group
Dr Wasteland MD replied to DrDeucePhD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You might discover that we aren't as big as you think. Maybe give us a try? Or don't, I enjoy seeing people set out on their own. I wish you luck and beans. -
The Honorable Bandit
Dr Wasteland MD replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't believe I said that, in fact I have a lot of respect for bandits. All I'm looking for is a bandit who scares me. Someone who is tenacious and vicious, but also willing to explain to me their DayZ experience. Most of all, I'm looking for a recognizable name. You don't have to reveal yourself as a bandit, you simply have to send me a pm. I'd like to speak to you. That is all. -
The Coalition - Changing the Culture of DayZ
Dr Wasteland MD replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That sounds like success in my opinion. If nothing else, maybe we will bring large team based combat to DayZ, although I would like to see more of a society. Honestly the bandit interest in The Coalition excites me. The hacker interest doesn't bother me. Hackers will do what they do. It doesn't make sense for me to change how I want to influence the game because of a minority hacker community. My hope is that once the standalone is released, hackers will be less of a threat. Not acting because of hackers is stagnant gameplay, and, if nothing else, I'm against stagnant gameplay. -
The Coalition - Changing the Culture of DayZ
Dr Wasteland MD replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think your argument has merit. The Coalition is a daunting task. We could get mired in the specifics of how we will respond to people shooting other people if we want, but I prefer to try to influence the larger picture. What we are trying to do is bring new experiences to the community. This can include things like trying to cooperate a little more and shoot each other on sight a little less, but it also branches out to other things. You focus on the survivor getting killed unjustly, and while I won't say that will never happen, I will say that should be counter-weighted against all the other experiences we're offering survivors. Trading, transportation, medical assistance, to name a few. We can choose to focus on all the kinks that need to be worked out, or we can choose to focus on all the new experiences that The Coalition opens up. I'd prefer to focus, for now, on the experiences. -
The Coalition - Changing the Culture of DayZ
Dr Wasteland MD replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
We began The Coalition with the aim of bringing new experiences to DayZ. As I see it, if The Coalition servers become battlegrounds between organized bandits and survivors, that's a new experience that can bring a lot of fun to all parties involved. Seems to me that we're accomplishing our goals. -
The Coalition - Changing the Culture of DayZ
Dr Wasteland MD replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've actually been looking forward to the bandit response. What I've discovered is that people overestimate the bandit threat. The Coalition will only be in danger from bandits when they actually get organized. And I have yet to find a bandit group that had more than 400 people. That being said, bandits: give us your best shot! I've actually been looking forward to speaking with some exceptional bandits. -

I really had no idea that DayZ's player base was so young. Not that it's a bad thing, but dang. -

The Coalition - Changing the Culture of DayZ
Dr Wasteland MD replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Here's my perspective, and I only speak for myself - not for The Coalition or it's member organizations. It would be ludicrous for me to dictate to you how to play the game. That wouldn't really be any fun, for me or anyone else. What I can do is encourage. I will encourage TMW's members to play on The Coalition's servers. I will encourage TMW members to take their patients on those servers and play on them if they choose. I will encourage my people to advance the culture that The Coalition is all about - having new experiences by not killing just for fun. CQF will probably have their guys run patrols, but their people have volunteered for just that kind of thing. If your group joins The Coalition, how you craft your role in our new society is completely up to you. I personally like the idea of a bunch of lone wolves running around who are not going to shoot survivors, but instead attempt to find mutually beneficial relationships with strangers while maintaining their lone wolf playstyle. I can firmly state that I do not condone tactics and strategies that I would call "not in the spirit of the game." This includes things like duping, combat logging, zombie logging, ghosting, hacking, and exploiting. It should be said that I do not consider camping loot spawns to be an exploit. -
The Coalition - Changing the Culture of DayZ

No, they would not be banned. I am adamantly against anything that breaks immersion in the game. Personally, I love bandits, they keep the game interesting. -
Good luck. You may wish to look at how Freeside Trading Company and Fort Haven operate. It seems to me that your location is pretty exposed to sniper fire, both for incoming friendlies and people in the actual building.

Mother trucker! No one is friendly ever in game!
Dr Wasteland MD replied to zachgibson22's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I understand where the OP is coming from, but if I can give my two cents, the culture of DayZ is undergoing a change. My Proof. Soon, we will have servers that are actively policed by military clans. On these servers, you can find Freeside Trading Company outposts that will allow you to trade for equipment. You can also request medical assistance from the Trusted Medics of the Wasteland. There are friendlies out there, you just have to know where to look. DayZ is not a free for all PvP. The culture is changing. Help us change it. -

We're working on operating on the CQF servers, but right now we really just wanted to inform the community that The Coalition is happening. Keep tabs on this thread for further information on servers and member organizations. -
Starting a small, proper squad.
Dr Wasteland MD replied to CyberTyrant's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So glad that you're not making an "improper squad." That would be downright impolite. -
I think that new experience brings more people to playing as medics than anything else. I'm sure there are other experiences out there that no one has had yet, be interesting to see what people come up with.

I've been pretty active in this game and in the game community for awhile now, and what I ask myself more often than anything else is - what makes DayZ special? When I started playing, at the insistence of my girlfriend, I saw what I think most people see - the most realistic approach to a zombie apocalypse that I'd ever seen. I saw people thrust into a scenario that, at first glance, seemed very realistic. On the one hand you have the danger - sickness, pain, death - but on the other hand you have people making experiences with one another. It was that potential for community that made me want to keep playing, even though I played (and still prefer to play) as a lone wolf. When I decided to step out of the mold, it was because I wanted to enlighten people and make them realize that there is no one way to play DayZ. People would tell me, when I was learning, that I couldn't trust anyone. I was told to shoot on sight any other player I saw. I came to discover that that was merely one aspect of the game, but one that most players at the time saw as "how the game was played." To most people in those days, since everyone was essentially a bandit, you had to become one too in order to survive. But what continues to surprise and excite me about DayZ is it's potential. I admire how the developers do not try to dictate how to play their game. Instead, they've created this world, and they let the community figure out how to play in it. The DayZ Dev team seems to have no real agenda - certainly a rare thing in our modern world. It would have been so easy for them to say "let's create less of an incentive for killing players," and indeed many people have called for something like this. But it takes real guts for Rocket and his staff to keep a distance from it all and just watch. I guess what makes DayZ special for me is the freedom. And so I encourage every player to seek out new experiences that you may not have had before. After all, each and every one of us will hit that wall where we ask ourselves "what's the point in playing anymore? I have all the gear I could ever want, I have a car, I have a group of people to play with..." And I guess when you come to that point, just ask yourself if there is something you've never done, and if you think of something, put yourself, your equipment and your time at risk in search of that new experience. Like me, you may be surprised at what you discover.

To be honest I'm dying to tell you guys about it. But, alas, it will have to wait until Wednesday. Keep a careful eye on the survivor hq subforum. -

So nice to see all the activity on this thread. I might be breaking the rules here, but something big is about to happen in DayZ. Maybe around Wednesday? Who am I to talk, though. -
Hey guys, Dr. Wasteland, M.D. here. As someone who's trying to play the game as strictly a doctor/medic (you can read up more on how I try to do that here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=4581), I would get more fun out of a more complex medical system that maybe required other tools. Think portable defibrillators, oxygen tanks, sterilizers, splints, that kind of thing. Actually, what it brings to mind is my brief (and very fun) experience with Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and the medical system in that. Also, an idea for two changes to clothes and skins. Perhaps there could be a field medic outfit and a change to the regular survivor skin after you receive medical attention. I'm thinking when medics have to cut someone's clothes off in order to get to the wounds, something like that. Just some thoughts, wanted to see if you could be interested. EDIT: I guess to summarize, what I'm saying is that it's too easy to diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries. Instead of a 1 + 1 = 2 kind of system where if I am losing blood rapidly then I am bleeding and I need to bandage, it should become more varied with some and/or situations thrown in. Something like, my leg is broken so I need to splint it. I have been shot so I need to extract the bullet, and I may have internal bleeding so someone needs to do some field surgery on me to patch that up. And finally I have to keep all my wounds clean or it may become infected. Make it so that, given a patient's symptoms, different people can come to different conclusions, making experience in the field more useful than just straight knowledge. That would be a cool freaking system.

I'm a finicky bastard, that's for sure. A reminder to anyone looking to get White Listed, you need to send me a pm. It's too much work for me to comb the thread looking for medics to induct into the White List. If you want it, and can provide proof that you helped patients, then I want to hear from you! -

Send me a pm with a link to a patient's testimonial that you indeed helped them. Then I'll add you to the White List.
