So I don't have to bother responding, right? Since I already addressed this and you just didn't bother to read it? Look, I get that there is finally evidence that there are times when this group has abused their admin positions. They're trying to maintain order on their server and undo the damage done by hackers. They're clearly confused as to when someone is hacking and when someone isn't. When you're dealing with this much hacking, that's to be expected. I'm asking for a reasonable response from people, not a "BURN THE WITCH!!" kinda response where the second an admin steps out of line the server gets taken down. If we used the same mentality, you should probably be banned for using what were probably duped (though hopefully not by you) satchels. Using weapons that are gotten by hacking, even when you weren't the one hacking, is a ban-able offense in most servers. I understand that this is completely different from using hacked weapons, but the point is that you're calling for blood just because you want the colony taken down, not because you actually care that much about server admin rules. -

They don't restart every time something bad happens to them. RTFT. There are a bunch of instances where they don't bother restarting after everyone gets killed at the colony. They've had people walk in and blow up satchels on themselves and they haven't restarted. They restart when they think someone airstrikes them, because they have no way to prevent it and it's a hack. It happens to them constantly, so it's very easy to think that something that looks just like hacking would be treated like hacking. Kenwei's post is the first post that in any way convincingly shows what would be termed as admin abuse in a 14 page thread documenting a ton of hacking, a ton of griefing (which no one has said is bad), and a ton of whining by some of the griefers. If you look at the video it's description is full of derogatory language aimed at 1040 and its admins, which, to me, means anger. I don't understand why anyone would be angry at 1040 for what's going on. If anything, this thread should either lead to entertainment for the peanut gallery, or disappointment in the people who play this game both because of the hacking and the inability to properly respond to it. -

Wait, so you're saying they should just roll over and never reset when people hack and blow up the base? Because they're blown up by hackers pretty freakin' often. You're right that they should have recognized the difference between an airstrike and satchels. But it's still pretty understandable that, since most people have never even seen or heard a satchel, it's hard to believe that someone managed to plant and blow up a ton of them in your base. If anything, you should be mad at the developers for allowing hacking to be so indistinguishable from real gameplay. Or you should just chill the fuck out, and recognize that while server admin rules are really important, it's hard to observe them when you're the target of vast amounts of hacking. You seem to ignore that they talk about suddenly going unconscious without being shot. So even if you weren't hacking, someone else was. I'd imagine they'd almost have to assume the explosion was an airstrike or some other form of hacking if they know that at least one person is hacking. I wouldn't be surprised if they were using ESP map as an admin, since that seems like the only reasonable way to determine, on the spot, who is probably hacking. I just really don't understand why you're mad. You blew up their base and really pissed them off, so you accomplished your mission. Hell, a server reset would give you your satchels back and rebuild their base, allowing you to bomb it again without having to wait. I feel bad for the guys who got banned, and I hope they appeal, but they'll probably just move onto another server. It should be noted that I'm not affiliated with 1040. I've been to the base once, and think what they're doing is cool. I'm pretty sure everyone involved and everyone who wants to be involved is pretty pissed off that there's a chance the server could be brought down due to how hard it is to manage a server that is the target of so much hacking. I'm pretty sure there are almost no other bases like this that do not require clan membership to enter. -

I agree with everyone whose saying there should be an unconditional wait period whenever you log out. Games like fonline implement this with 100% success. It sucks when you're randomly disconnected, But it works and it's something that you should be thinking about anyway. Also, it makes you that much more paranoid when you're about to leave. It's like making sure no one has been following you waiting to ambush you just before you go to sleep. -
I don't know why people hate on this so much. I have a friend who is deaf in one ear because his dumbass friend thought putting firecrackers in a can and then setting them off next to my friend was a good idea. SOCOM and several other tactical shooters have sound indicators. Also, DayZ already has a really subtle system to indicate where constant sounds are coming from... I think just use the current indication system, but shots make red indicators instead of white ones.

I'll try to keep this story short. So, if you've seen the post on US-1040's colony, you probably know that it's a huge shit-storm of griefers/hackers/claims of admin abuse. If you haven't read any of it, grab a beer and some popcorn and go give it a read. It's pretty entertaining in and of itself. Well, I thought I'd chime in, since the colony sounds like a fun idea, especially when everyone who reads about it tries to attack it. Anyway, I thought I'd try to head to the server next time I died. Almost immediately after deciding this I stepped on a tire someone had placed in a doorway and both my legs broke, so I rolled over to the nearest pack of zombies and let them eat me. I log into 1040 and it's night time, which I don't play on too often, since I'm band new and it's scary. I start making my way through the forest, in the darkness, thinking about how freaky it would be if someone like slender or jason shows up. "HEY!" yells some dude who I totally didn't even see running up to me. I flip shit and start yelling into my mic and the guy points out that I shouldn't be worried since he clearly has a hero skin. Turns out it's HunterBoy, the server's admin and the guy who set up the colony. We have a good conversation, he gives some great gear, he calls in a chopper and we fly over to the colony. On the way, some guys tried to call in the helicopter with a flair so they can ambush it, but Hunter just fires the machine gun at them. We land on top of the construction building at the colony, I get out, we start talking, then someone artillery strikes the whole colony, then teleports us all into mid-air above the ocean. Then the server resets. It was pretty fun up until the hacking, and even that wasn't a big deal.

Lol, just landed at the colony (my first time there!) and just a few seconds after I step off the helicopter when I hear a quick shriek followed by a boom. There's an explosion at which point I die, and then everyone is teleported into the air over the water and falls into the water. I'm pretty sure it was an airstrike, because there was a shriek, if it was c4 someone scripted it to magically appear where we'd just landed, and if it were an RPG we would've seen it coming and it wouldn't have blown up the building we landed on. I thought I'd vouch for these guys. I went to the 1040 server figuring I'd see what the big deal with this colony was and whether or not I could find some friendly survivors to hang out with. As I'm walking through the forest in the pitch black of night someone shouts out "hey!" Come to find I've stumbled upon HunterBoy, who gives me a nice backpack, some supplies, a map, a compass, and some NV goggles. We have a nice conversation while he calls in a chopper, and then we get airlifted to the colony. I met Vengence, too, and he seemed like a nice guy and pretty good pilot. Anyway, I wasn't there long, but I don't see why anyone would think these guys admin abusing. Unless of course you just really want to ruin other peoples' fun for sheer personal gratification. -
I have a bunch of friends in graphic/web design and the ones who are actually doing well in their profession actually all use PCs for their work. So no, they're not better for graphic/web design, which would be the one thing that USED TO differentiate them when they used PPC processors. The two major categories of software that basically don't exist on OSX are games and engineering/scientific software. The only engineering software that works on OSX is CAD, and you can't buy any of the Mechanical/Electrical modules so it's worthless. In my graduate department, there are actually a lot of MACs, but none of them run OSX because of how much RAM it uses. We're pretty much all doing software development that has huge double matrices, and you use up your system RAM on a Mac before a windows system. The only reason they have Macs is because they're rich kids whose parents sent them to America for college. Lol. Lolololololol. Lololololololol. Someone is a little elite-ist. If most people who used Macs were using them for design work, then that would mean that there are a huge number of graphic/web design jobs available, which would then imply that liberal arts majors do not actually have trouble getting a job... So yeah... (No offense to liberal arts majors, you guys just picked a sucky job market). You're right that people shouldn't have given him crap. He has every right to buy a macintosh. But then you came here, and the gods of the internet demanded we give you crap about macintosh.

Lol, I'm raging? I haven't threatened anyone, whined, or played the victim card yet (all classic traits of a rager). Look, I'm in this game for the lulz. It's a lot of fun when you don't give a shit and just try to find people to kill zombies/raiders with. Apparently you missed that... Also, what indicates they use the log to track the number of players they're being attacked by? They've frequently gotten the number of attackers wrong (from other angry raiders accounts) which would seem to indicate they're actually verifying by sight, not scripts. -

Oh, I'm sorry that wasn't obvious from your video that you posted with no quotes, no text, and no explanation... Also, do you understand the meaning of the word insubstantial? [sarcasm] Ya, this one video shows a restart that can IN NO WAY be random that clearly happened ONLY BECAUSE they'd just started shooting (with no confirmed kills or damage). From this one video it is obvious that there is RAMPANT admin abuse on this server. Clearly we must have immediate action for these HEINOUS crimes.[/sarcasm] -

Wow, so much butthurt on this thread. I can't imagine how hard it would be to administer this server with how many people hack. If you're pissed off because you tried to raid and were misidentified as a hacker, I honestly don't feel sorry for you. I'm sure some people who have attacked this camp are actually RP'ing, and that's cool and probably makes the game way more fun. Has anyone who's complaining about admin abuse noticed how many times people report being attacked in this colony without witnessing an immediate restart? I'm pretty confident that most of the people who are crying and complaining are the kind of bandit that has a really weak ego, and the second something goes differently than they want it's someone else's fault. These kind of bandits are normally still cool because they make the game challenging and dangerous. On the forums they just make it hard for a server that's trying to do something interesting and incredibly difficult to not have some sort of corrective action taken against them due to false claims of abuse. It's amazing how many people see a server where they know things will be crazy, join up, something crazy happens, and they cry foul. It's also amazing how many hackers and complainers seem to hate the idea of people enjoying the game in their own way. US 1040, I hope things start to go better for you in the future. Next time I die, I'll probably head there naked just to say hi and enjoy the show. -
EDIT: I'll leave the original post below so if anyone was wondering what I was confused about they can see it and laugh, or something :P Anyway, my suggestion was to make all shotguns use the same kind of ammo, but there's apparently already a mechanism in the game for effectively making that happen. Now that I am the wiser, I retract my suggestion, since there's no need for it. Also, I now realize that the 1886 is a level action rifle. ORIGINAL POST: I'm new to the game, so I completely understand if I'm totally off base here. Anyway, my suggestion is that shotgun shells not differentiate between which kind of shotgun they can be used in. I really don't understand why the 1866 cannot use M1014 shells, and why the M1014 cannot used 1866 shells. Technically, there are differences in types of 12 gauge shells, in the sense that they can range from 2-3/4" to 3-1/2" in length. However, any shotgun that can chamber a 3-1/2" shell can chamber any 12 gauge shell. The M1014 is a combat shotgun and is almost certainly chambered for 3-1/2", so it can use any shell. The 1866 should also be able to use any modern shotgun shell it has a chamber that is long enough for. If it's a very old 1866, the point is still moot, because either it's not chambered for any commercially available ammunition (say if it was chambered for paper shells) and would've needed to have been rechambered at some point anyway. You could make the point that maybe the 1866 has a shorter chamber, but I feel like shotguns (specifically the 1866) could probably use a bit of help, in terms of making them more viable. I get that some weapons are supposed to be better than others, but I would never pick up an 1866 unless I just didn't have a primary, and I can't think of any guns I trade for an M1014 unless I was basically out of ammo. Making it so that all shotguns can use all shells would help out just enough, in my eyes.

ruttle, I guess I should edit my original post, but ya I already realize that. Also, you can change between 2-shot and m1014? I think I understand now. The wiki really confused me, and doesn't contain any info about this. It's kinda kludgy to have to convert like that, but I guess it's a solution to work with the engine. Well, I guess my suggestion doesn't really mean anything then.

I really don't like this sleep idea. Maybe you play this game for many hours on end, but for me it's a challenge to even get to the really fun parts of the game during the few hours I can play it during the week. This is a really slow game and while that's really good for the build up and makes it really neat and in depth, I don't think it needs to be any slower. Healing from sleep would be overpowered, basically negating any value food has. It's supposed to be really hard to regain blood, sleeping is super easy. Also, as many people have pointed out, logging out is like going to sleep. You're even quite vulnerable when you log back in.

How do magazines apply to double barrel, though? Either the double barrel proves that guns can have ammunition stack independently of magazine size, or that there is a workaround for this problem anyway. Also, given how stack conversion works I'd imagine you could script something up to force the engine to allow stacks of 1.5 clips, since it can restack half clips. It's a pretty minor suggestion, and I'm not under the illusion that it's very important. It's just awkward that the shells behave the way they do and befuddles someone like me who is a big fan of shotguns.

Lol, ya I just saw that. Oops. I didn't even notice that the different ammo types (2shot and m1014) stacked differently. I definitely agree that at the very least that should be fixed. It strikes me as really odd that people would be able to find lever action .44 rifles just laying around. Maybe old Mosin Nagants, but a .44 lever is already rare enough in the US. Also, it's very odd that they would use shells as the ammunition, but that's not a big deal. I guess that gun falls outside the realm of my suggestion then.

Ya, the sepia effect kicks in too early. Technically, you could maybe make an argument for that being realistic, but you only notice that you've lost perception of color when it's really bad/you're about pass out from hypoxia. -
For a .22 it sounds like it almost works. However, I had a friend who has made silencers for weapons that are only a slightly higher caliber (.223, also note that this is highly illegal) out of stuff you can find around the house and they certainly work a few times at least. However, you need things like drill presses, tennis balls, cotton wadding, pvc, and lots and lots of epoxy to make it work. The thing that makes the .22 work with a pop bottle is the incredibly small amount of powder in a .22 round. .223 rounds have quite a bit more, which is why you have to go through so much more trouble to silence them. Pretty much any round that is larger would be even harder to silence. Basically, this is an unrealistic idea. Also, I don't think many people would bother if it was some sort of craftable item.
