Omg the new interchangeable skins use premade models from DLC that i don't have! Why the hell would the devs do this as the very 1st introduction of this feature! WHY ISN'T IT FUCKING PERFECT IN ALPHA!? /sarcasm off Get the fuck over it people. The mod is hardly even a few months old, still in alpha, and you people are complaining that a few interchangable skins don't work for you? This is hardly a game breaker, and will likely be resolved in due time. Until then, suck it up.

Yes but again, if you're killed that quickly after spawning, just got to another server, there are plenty to pick from. Even if some people did do this, the amount of people doing it would likely drop significantly. -

1: Why would anyone bother to do that? Nothing to gain from killing people who only have a flashlight. And even if someone did do that - 2: Who really cares? If all i have is a flashlight and i get gunned down shortly after spawning, so what? Chances are i had only been alive for a short amount of time and didn't have anything to lose anyways. If i'm getting camped for no reason, there are tons of other servers i can go join. -

I fully support the OP's idea. Spawning with nothing but a flashlight would make starting on a night time server actually playable, would virtually eliminate spawn campers, would make survival a higher priority instead of some people instantly trying to find other players to kill. It would add more progression as well, using the coastal areas and initial supply gathering points, a place to find other players to work with without fear of them gunning you down on sight. It would turn the more inland areas into the higher end places, even moreso than they are now, and the loot could be distributed accordingly to this. A truly brilliant and simple idea, love it. -

I'm not scared of night at all, in fact i think it would be even easier to get around undetected at night than in day time. The problem is that night time right now is so damn dark that 99% of the time you can't see your own gun in front of your face. It's not scary at all, it's just unplayable. And don't start with that "use flares or chemlights" because that is not a proper solution to broken nights. -
So i got a question. I currently play the game exclusively with my best friend IRL, since having another player you can really rely on is somewhat of a luxury in this game and can really help with long-term survival. The problem is, he doesn't have as much time to play as i do, and as a result, we only end up playing for a couple hours a day, and only a few days out of the week. While i greatly enjoy the time we spend playing together, i would really like to be able to make another character that i could use to play solo whenever he can't play with me. However, i can't think of a way that this would be possible with the current way the game works. I love the fact that it is persistent, but i don't see how having more than 1 character would be a bad thing since you would have to find gear and whatnot for each character individually. Does anyone know if there is a way to have 2 characters?

Honestly, who cares if people use "bank" characters to store weapons like that? In order to do that, you have to first go out and actually find the weapons and/or items in order to store them. That means that you must first take the necessary risk in order to obtain the items. It's not like you can just have an alt character with pre-stored weapons and ammo ready to go at a moment's notice. If anyone were to have 2 characters, or 3, or 4, or however many, they would have to collect gear for each and every one of them individually, exactly the same as you would with only a single character. The time and effort is still required, you would just be able to get the burden of finding some starter gear out of the way all at once for each character, so if you died you'd have another ready to go with gear already. Who cares if people want to use "mule" characters who they can use to get back into the fight faster? If someone wants to spend the incredible amount of time it would take to move multiple characters across the entire map one by one to keep them close to one another, why not let them? How does it harm you or anyone else? One argument is that if that happened, then they could attack someone, and if they died, they could just get on an alt character and try again. Yeah maybe so, but the prep work required to put multiple characters in the proper position to stage an attack like that would take forever, and even then, it wouldn't be worth it if you ended up losing a character or 2, as those dead characters would then have to respawn with no gear and thus go through the entire process of regearing again, and then run back to where ever it is you are grouping your characters. The risk/reward just simply isn't worth it. Yeah you might end up killing your target with that setup, but the amount of time and effort lost in doing so would greatly outweigh whatever loot you might get out of it. And for those reasons, i really don't see many people, if any really, making multiple characters for anything other than using them for different play styles. Sorry but i just don't see anyone running 5 characters across the entire map one by one after spending a few hours on each one getting gear, only to risk losing any one of those characters just so you can get a can of beans or some shit. -

That's something i really don't want to risk though. We've both been alive now for several days and have worked our way inland for a considerable distance. If i were to play by myself while he's away and i end up getting killed, then i would have to respawn and go get myself some more gear again, not to mention the extremely long run back to his position. If that happened and i wasn't geared up and back to position by the next time he could play with me (which would be very unlikely if that ever happened) then that would just be time that i could have been playing with him, wasted. -

Honestly the entire system is flawed until they fix the disconnect feature - If you disconnect from the server when zombies are running for you and then load back into the game, the zombies all despawn. Now of course not everyone does that even if they know about it, but if you're a bandit and you want to kill another player you come across in a zombie infested area, who's to say that the bandit won't just shoot you without even caring, disconnect right after you're dead to despawn all the zombies, then reconnect and loot you. -

Losing items in water and disconnection

Date/Time: May, 5, 2012 - around 10 PM, GMT -6 (CST) What happened: Everything in my main inventory (Primary weapon, ammo, water bottle, ect.) disappeared, as well as my Alice Pack along with everything that was in it. All i had left was my revolver and whatever ammo i had for it. Also, only a few seconds after that happened, i got disconnected from the server, and now any time i try to connect to ANY server, i get kicked out by Battle eye before i can load in with the message "Client not responding." So far i have tried about 5 different servers located in different regions around the world, all with the same error message. Where you were: At a small pond to the north of a dam that is north of Elecktro. (Not sure what it's called exactly.) What you were doing: I entered a small pond for a few seconds. after my character switched to the swimming animation, i got back out of the pond. When i did, most of my inventory was gone. *Current installed version: 1.5.7 Dayz - 1.60 Arma2 *Server(s) you were on: DE4 when it happened. *Your system specs: *Timeline of events before/after error: Me and a friend had just logged in, not far from the Dam. We ran through the trees following the road, took a right at the fork and not far from there we found the pond. I entered it to see if it was deep enough to fill a water bottle. I entered the pond holding a shotgun, and when i got out of it, i was holding my revolver. I looked at my inventory and everything i had in it aside from my pistol and it's ammo were gone, including my Alice Pack and everything in it. Less than a minute after that i started getting the "No message received for xx seconds" messages, and got disconnected from the game. After that i tried reconnecting and once it got past the "Getting player id" stage, i got kicked out of the server by Battle eye with the message "Client not responding." i tried restarting the game, even restarting my entire computer and then tried connecting to at least 5 different servers, some in the EU and some in the US, and each one gave me the same error, though sometime at different stages of the loading process, but always before i spawned into the game. At the time of this posting, i still cannot get into any server. I was able to Connect again, but items still missing. -

I kinda find that "Drowning with large amounts of gear on you" thing a bit exaggerated. Maybe if you had some super heavy stuff, but soldiers with similar gear can still swim with it. Losing a bit of gear i can understand, but when you lose litterally everything but your sidearm, that's when it gets a little rediculous. -

Had virtually the same thing happen to me at a different location in the game. Posted a bug report thread about it too. Good to know it's not just me.
