20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
_triumph_ replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
NO This game does not have melee weapons implemented. If we do obtain melee at some point then yes. -
Bandit skin fallacy. Oh I love it.

During your adventure you find a person without a gun on them. Main fire arm or sidearm cannot be seen in hand. You clearly have the advantage over them. Be it up close or observing them from a scope afar. Would you shoot this unarmed person? Why?
-
The area close by just is not interesting. Mysta, Kamy, and the Three Valleys area have one or two small points of interest. Also they are far from that fun airfield everyone loves so much. Instead of removing this how about adding more interesting things.

Would you shoot the unarmed person?
_triumph_ replied to _triumph_'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My answer right now is shoot. -

I think herds happen when players aggro and run for it. I've seen them near spawn cities. Perhaps it has to do with the zombies killing a person that has gone for a fun run into the woods?

[suggestion] finding out info on bodies
_triumph_ replied to thorlax's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Would be nice to know if bullet wounds are large or small. Could end up making me paranoid about snipers or AK loaded people around. -
The game is as bright as day with a full moon even without changing gamma settings. Not using a torch or chemlight at night makes the night pointless. This wasn't much of a problem the first weeks of the mod' date=' why is it now? [/quote'] Only time I could see anything in the dark was when I entered a server right at 4am game time and even that seemed a bit off. Not having night vision, and I don't mean night vision goggles makes night time pointless which is why people keep hopping servers. If I go inside a structure I should need a light or in a dark valley. But when I can't see anything crossing an open field its just strange and doesn't represent night vision well at all. It's not like my character is staring at a light and then going outside.

Needs wind. It's just not fun without wind.

It's not how many. It is simply how. -
Seeing anything at night is just unrealistically bad. Everyone suffers from night blindness even with a full moon out. Solve that issue and playing at night without a torch becomes fun.

Game Design Analysis: Why Cross-Server persistency must die
_triumph_ replied to Tartantyco's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The issue is with scarcity and being able to spawn on top of an area that could be considered high value over and over and over again by server hopping. Not the persistence itself. You want to see obvious areas that are going to take an investment to get to, have a somewhat clear reward but can end up with a player losing out big time. The games current balancing act needs some more work and the server hopping is destroying that trade off by making the only resource spent a players time instead of time, actions, and potential to interact with the world and other players. Being able to camp and hop high valued targets instead of coming into some place away from points of interests, away from newbie spawn zones, and with a group or not based upon preference is detrimental to game play. Would be nice to see newly spawned players taking shelter at something away from a hot area like a Dear Stand or a group to spawn at a northern or western edge of the map implying that there is terror deeper in the map along with additions to the lesser traveled areas of the map. And to pay for features players could have to invest resources for safety or some other balance handle to promote going out into hell and taking chances the next time they play. -
Died twice in a row and its not bandits...

Killed by rocks too. They're worse than bandits. -

Vault onto a rock. Break myself from a 1 foot fall. GG. All other deaths are pretty much greed related.
