It isn't exactly easy to avoid bandits who likely have plenty of experience (survived going to the north/east for gear and back) in spotting people. Especially not in the middle of wide-open towns with coastal backdrops. "No matter how well you hide or move, you always have a crosshair on you." Remember that? It applies just as well to newspawns who have no real way of avoiding snipers, especially when they can only go 3 ways, all 3 of which aren't gonna get them further away from a bandit sniper. enjoy the text wall, ENO. you've earned it.

Firstly, it's impossible to judge if a guy is going to kill you in this scenario. It's easier to shoot the guy the second he turns his back. Waiting 30 mins is just excess, and it could lead to the bandit being shot in the back. Secondly, not everyone would be a bloodthirsty murderer in the case of a real apocalypse. The bandits out there would likely shoot BEFORE they make contact, or right when the guy turns his back. Waiting longer could get them killed.

Depends on the circumstances. If he had a gun, and looked friendly, probably. It takes experience to judge if they look friendly. If they wander around with their gun out, they're hostile. If it's holstered, they're likely friendly.

A bandit is like a criminal IRL: Wide scaled, but generally not the guy you'd share your beans with.

Just to put this out there, I do understand that it'd be better to fix content rather than add more content, but I believe that the alpher is for adding and the beter is for fixing. What will we call the beta in DayZ slang, anyways? "Beter" just doesn't fit, and "alpher" is going to get old really fast. I still have one other question, though. So, I got my 1st kill.. ever... From 2011 to 2015. Both in the mod and in the standalone. I got it on an AFK guy who was in a fire station in elektro. I feel like a douchebag for killing him. The guy was damn stacked. Longhorn, AK, Derringer, M1911 and tons of ammunition. My fire axe ruined most of his clothes as well as his tactical vest, too. I guess it proves my inexperience with murder. He was very clearly AFK. After I hit him once, he did nothing. I think I should've shot him instead to save his clothing. but, hey. I like my bomber jacket. That's not the point, though. The point is that I feel like a genuine cunt for killing someone who had likely spent hours upon hours of game time scavenging for gear. He just made the mistake of going AFK in a fire station- one that I make very often. Moral: I'm an asshole. Secondary moral: Don't go AFK in a fire station in Elektro. I was tempted to ignore him and leave a note telling him not to go AFK in a fire station, but greed got the best of me. >Inb4 I get fucking shot because of Karma I guess I'm not a hero anymore ;_;

So, I had a naked fistfight with a guy. I won, bandaged him and we went out. Then, we decided to attack a guy who had a sledgehammer. Not our best idea. He killed both of us, and then went to teabag us, screaming in some kind of redneck drawl the entire time. I heard a different voice say "You did this?" to the guy. He replied "Yep." At about 5 seconds to respawn timer, I hear a handcuff sound, and the 2nd guy started talking. All I heard before I respawned was "You're my bitch, motherfucker." 10/10 dayz is GOTC I just died because my brand new, pristine stun baton suddenly didn't work, and a guy 1 hit KO'd me with a fire extinguisher. I had a magnum with ammo. I tried to pull it out, and my idiot character would just put it away. The guy bled to death. Idiot. dayz is no longer GOTC, it's broken of the century.

Interesting. A lot of the time, I'll run around the coast picking up spare cans of food and giving them to newspawns. I always wear black and light blue if possible, and I carry a magnum for emergencies. Once I head inland, I turn into a hoarder ;_;

So, I've been looking at videos and screenshots of people in DayZ, and it is just staggering how well geared many of them are. Am I just stupid, or is there a good way to get loot very quickly? I'm talking about military camo clothing, high-tier primaries like the AK series or other useful primaries? My personal strategy is to travel along the coast until I get to a place like Nizhoynee, trying to find a firearm in the little "gun cabins". Then, once I have food and preferably a pack/weapon, I head inland, going from city to city to loot up until I get to Stary Sobor. By that time, I usually have mid-tier weaponry, clothing and about 8-10 cans of food. I'll then head to the Military base, and then the NWAF. For all the mlg loot pros out there, is this a good looting route? Is there too much of a risk due to snipers, etc? What are all of your favorite looting routes? This is slightly irrelevant, but how do you all move while going from city to city? How do you move while in a city? Do you full on sprint and risk a massive lack of accuracy? Do you kill anyone you see? Because I find that it takes ~30 seconds to get my aim back after a full sprint, and I'm worried that it could mess me up in the event of a firefight. Sorry if this is a lot of questions, but I'm only in the process of learning how to play in large player servers. Over the 30 or so hours I've played since Friday, I haven't gotten into a single firefight. I want to be ready.

Cargo pants, a magnum, spare ammo and rags. That's all I need to bait out some freshie killers.

I'm just getting into more populated servers. It's a lot more fun when you get to see people. 3pp usually, because I'm not fond of running in 1st person.

I was gonna suggest the .300 Winmag, but that doesn't seem like it'd fit in. A modern? sniper cartridge mostly used by Americans? (I don't know much about the .300 winmag sadly, only more recreational calibers) wouldn't fit in a Russian area. A WWI era American sniper may have made it there, though. That, and I LOVE the .30-06.
