Standalone by September? No chance
griffinz replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
He doesn't have to buy rights to any BIS engine... -
I can't go into detail on how the system works, but I guess it can be flawed...alpha, free mod, etc...
-
I've been out of the loop lately due to RL commitments, but generally people need to do some research before playing this game. Whether for installing the mod, or how to work the UI, somewhere along the way you'll come across talk of hackers, and how to avoid being a victim.

Directional Sound, that is all I want
griffinz replied to Rakkasan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Arma has directional sound. It's pretty standard. Check your settings. -
There is a system in place that checks inventory against allowed items in-game.
-
A BattleEye ban will only take place if you truly "hack" the game (script injections, security breaching, etc.)
-
They will be banned from DayZ, not Arma 2. DayZ is a free mod, so regardless why they purchased Arma 2, the money they spent was on Arma 2, and they will still have Arma 2.

Standalone by September? No chance
griffinz replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Rocket works at BIS. Arma 3 is close to being released for public alpha (since last I read 2-3 months ago). I wouldn't be surprised if he's been spending more resources on a stand-alone than on patching this mod. Stand-alone release this year is plausible, but would remain in an alpha testing stage. -
You will be banned hard if you pick it up...unless I missed something?

why do people complain about disconnecting?
griffinz replied to MikeTupper's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As soon as there's a fix for quick disconnecting on the Arma engine, you can bet your grandma that Rocket will implement it straight away. -
Poll: DayZ or The War Z?
griffinz replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"Game is standalone, therefore unbuggy" Lolwut? -
PVP will remain, forever. All the complaints in the world won't change that.

I'm not going to take time out to do what you can do in your own time.Read the stickied Rocket threads in this sub-forum

Rocket has a studio supporting him. What the hell is wrong with you people? At least research for 10 minutes before stating fiction as if it was fact. Every day I read posts saying "Rocket should be hired by Bohemia for all the money he's made them" or "Rocket is making this mod by himself".

Bohemia and Dayz Devs fail to protect their community
griffinz replied to BIOSEMTEX's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What?If you stopped and thought for a moment before posting that, you'd remember that Arma engine is a simulation engine, not a game engine. There were no competitive goals in scenarios, just acts of co-ordination. Hacking also allowed people to take shortcuts in scenarios when things didn't go to plan, either from their actions, or from script errors. DayZ is competitive, however, but it is also a mod. Restricting an engine for a mod is just dumb business. This is why Day Z will be a stand-alone, so it does not hinder the flow of Arma. -
Bohemia and Dayz Devs fail to protect their community
griffinz replied to BIOSEMTEX's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To make a long story short; Arma engine has never had a need to prevent hacking -
DayZ subreddit. http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz Its still pretty new, but a pretty good way to filter good from the bad (also I wouldn't mind if a DayZ staff member subscribed)

Arma series is so terrible.
griffinz replied to A Bush killed me's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Remember that this is, and always will be, a milsim. It doesn't target players who want fast action, and the ability to quick-scope and knife people... Outside of DayZ, instances of hacking is relatively uncommon, so there has been no real focus on controlling it. -
My honest opinion of Day Z (And message to the creator)

Meet Adelitas: -
I confess I haven't played this game in months either...but to say it fails is very presumptuous. Rocket has a *tiny* team working on DayZ. The changes you are used to happening within a certain time-frame for other games will take much longer here. Just wait until this game goes in to full production, and the stand-alone comes out. I'll be playing the shit out of that.

Rocket's overall plan.

 -
This poll will have no effect on the course of the development.
