OVERHEATING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.Ender. replied to wampa's topic in General Discussion
Your character will show Hyperthermia/hyperthermic (high temps) due to a bug. But keep in mind it is also 'Summer' in Chernarus for this update (I believe even the devs mentioned this). So while you'll want to gear up with the most slots available (heavier gear) you'll sacrifice over heating. I tend to remove hats/gloves but I doubt it really helps with this bug. Ive been in water, drank gallons, and it still shows hyperthermia regularly. All this is really doing at the moment is causing your HYDRATION to fall rapidly. Keep hydrated and the overheating is not a problem at all. I rarely sprint, but run a lot. I keep 2 or 3 canteens/bottles on me and fill up every chance I get, but I only burn through hydration fast if I run constantly. Besides, do you really need to get somewhere in a hurry? The maps only so big and its not like you have a reason to sprint all day unless you're server hopping through airfields or something..... (but that's none of my business) :) -
Yup, noticed this too last night. Even when my axe was green prior, I spawned in yesterday with it like that. Painted it twice with both colors, claims its black/green but its not. Also noticed if you put something on the ground, then put something in your hands, and take it out of your hands, you get the first thing that was in your hands again (duping)...anyone else?

^^ the key here is, the game needs to be enjoyable and just as fair to new players as the veterans. Once the dedicated players basically own the servers and hoard all the loot, what chance do the new players or fresh spawns have? The mods are fun, but how fun is it really to not care about death in DayZ since you can run back to your base and just gear back up like its nothing? I agree...the clans/factions thing will probably get out of hand and end up monopolizing the game. I think team work and clans are cool, but people like me who lone-wolf it and enjoy scavenging, cooking in a fire, fishing in a pond, and basically surviving every day I log in and looting small towns for basic needs will be hard pressed to enjoy the game once servers are over run with capitalized clans having checkpoints at every decent loot spot. to be honest, as awesome of an idea vehicles are and as much as I look forward to fixing one up and having that feeling of accomplishment of owning one, I hope they are super hard to get running and very rare.. Maybe a lot of vehicles but rare parts or the opposite, lots of parts but rare vehicles (my choice). Its all speculation at this point so all we can really do is continue on through the months of updates and see whats in store for us..I quit every few months for a few months at a time..every time I come back I enjoy it just as much. That will be less the case if I know any time I come back I have to either join a clan or accept Ill never have anything better than a damaged screwdriver and an old pair of jogging pants.

Spent hours looting and surviving, end up dead when logging in?
.Ender. replied to Chamil's topic in Troubleshooting
Plus logging off from that location typically indicates you're a server hopper. Its possible you had a bad string of luck like me though where I finally made it to the NWAF after a week of running there from the East coast and being distracted by towns and what not, only to get a server dc message in that very building on the 2nd floor. Logged back in on another server because the first one wouldn't show up again, and I was on the ground inside the first floor (where you cant get to normally). I had to actually look for a ladder, see the arrow, then click the 'action' button and it brought me outside where I was able to run away..fast... I was nervous about being sniped so I don't go near airfields much, and the one I do finally make it to I glitch. go figure. I always find a wooded area just outside where Im at to log..you never know whos' going to be at your location when you log in lol -
Waiting for host / Session Lost / Lag and Desync since last patch
.Ender. replied to icetneo's topic in Troubleshooting
So I've noticed there have not been any other posts to this connection issue.... but just wondering if its still affecting others like me? I get the "Waiting for Host" message on most servers, and some that I do get into I cannot get into again so I have to try a few more before one works. ive deleted the BEClient.dll a few times but it doesn't really seem to help much. When servers restart on me after playing for a bit, I cant get back in so I generally just quit for the night. And Ive noticed theres no message stating its going to restart...Ill just start seeing the red "Not connected to server for X seconds" and hope my loot/character remain when I come back. Anyone else or is the waiting for host issue still happening to others? -
actually yeah Ive had zeds spawn on top of me in woods nearby the towns im stalking for resources. Ill be crouched, in tab view for something, tab out then alt left/right and BAM theres a zed agro'd. Its happened more than once lately so I know its not random..plus they're out further than they'd typically spawn (then will wander out into the fields), but these are popping up on top of me. I have noticed though if you close a door as you run in they'll just stalk you outside..they don't appear to be able to open doors. but they will follow you up stairs/indoors if a doorway is left open.

since you know the patch versioning ( .39, .40, .41, etc) go to youtube and search for things like 'dayz standalone .49' or something. People make videos of updated items and features. Im in the same boat. One of the biggest things now is temperature/sickness issues. zeds are back to normal as far as being easy to kill (yet can see better than a satellite in space!), and the loot on standalone servers with persistence on seem to be a hit or miss (sometimes no loot at all in an entire town after a restart). If you're back for vehicles or building, then might wanna take another hiatus. If you're back because you saw a youtube video or heard of it on a facebook ad like me and thought "man I miss that game!" then my suggestion is to literally just log in and start playing...if something doesn't work youtube it or hit the forums. Oh, fishing is pretty cool too if you can ever find a hook (and rope, ashwood sticks, then dig up worms for bait). Ive found 3 in one day then none since. Hit or miss I guess.

IMO using anything outside of the game is sort of cheating in a sense of the game play itself..HOWEVER... with the status of the game being alpha and the maps/navigation system involved not being a priority right now for developers, external help is okay some times since its quite inadequate because the street signs do nothing for you without a reference. I use the DayZDB map to find out WHERE I am since I play off and on for months at a time and might forget the locations over time. Since I have a pretty decent photographic memory I'm fairly good at using the map once in a blue moon and just going off that once Ive actually pin pointed my location. Its really fairly easy once you establish landmarks and know how to take advantage of the coasts location (is it to your right or left as you travel), wind/cloud direction, sun rise/set, etc etc. The old days even had a way of using a watch and shadows to determine your directions, but I haven't seen a watch in SA since I started playing again in the last few weeks. I love the compass though. However, since the loot system is jacked, its actually kind of important to utilize the time your character does have in traveling by foot to a place that MAY actually contain stuff that will keep you alive. Ive lasted weeks on a character only to be glitched to death...then turned around and had a character die 4 times in one or two nights because the loot was so poor or non-existent that my guy starved to death and got hypo in places like Elektro or Cherno...yes...that bad of a loot issue in a city where you should get sick to your stomach on the amount of resources available to you. Since I only play SA right now, I may need to check the ones with persistence turned off. I heard those have better loot which means random towns and not needing precise direction is more acceptable because at least I'd stumble across enough to survive. What I'd like is possibly the ability to draw a decent map for myself with pen/paper, sort of like tracking your own explorations (with notes on where you found what). Kind of adds to the whole survival post-apocalypse theme. I wish they'd add the journal back..cause something like that could be added to a journal and you could mention what you found where. Though when you die from stepping on some shrubbery or looking at a tree the wrong way, it's pretty much all lost lol

this has happened to a few people recently. I had a very well geared character for like 2 weeks. Server lost connection. I rejoined it and my guy was on the coast with nothing. Changed servers, same. Its alpha..so there will be character bugs unfortunately.. worst case scenario, report it in the proper section of the forum so they can attempt to narrow down these bugs. That's why people are allowed to play during alpha/beta developments, we essentially ARE the testers.

all I had one time was a bat. I some how aggroed like 6 zeds within about 1 minute of spawning in. Came across a house with nothing in it but a bat. They all came after me at once, so while running in a circle using only my 'up' and 'left' arrows, I got them in almost a perfect single group. Id just run and whack, run and whack, run and whack, etc. it took forever but with zero bandages and nowhere near to hide, I just took em out. I will always take out any zeds I come across. it looked like something out a Benny Hill skit... lol and by the time I killed them, I was sick and starving and basically died a few minutes later anyways trying to find loot (as many servers have zero to low loot if youre lucky)
-
anyone else notice the "ragdoll" feature, the zeds will just slide down hill wherever you kill them? and yeah the loot thing is annoying, but I have only been playing on persistence servers. whats the advantage to playing on them vs with persistence turned off really at this point?

Captain Picard!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
-
I was curious what was going on. I got glitched (thrown off a staircase and died with a lot of gear and a 2 week old character). When I respawned, I literally died 3 times before I found anything. No loot meant starvation twice and hypothermia once. My 4th character is now still alive, but theres still almost NO loot. I ran through a restarted server in Cherno and found maybe 2 items in about 30 minutes of apartment searching. I literally just die and restart now because I get bored of not finding anything and seeing 'im starving, im cold, waaa waa waa' when I literally cant do a single thing about it, without server hopping constantly.

Only repairs to 'Worn' status? That explains why it didn't seem to do any good as I'd go through sewing kits trying to get my cargo pants and jacket higher than Worn damage status. Also good to know you cant repair backpacks..which is silly. They're ridiculously easy to repair even in real life...a needle and thread go a long way. I just wish you could repair axes...I use it 99% of the time..as I don't even care for guns if I don't have to use them
-
a lot of people don't know it, but if you just run at them and strike them with an axe it'll take em out, if not on the first hit, on the 2nd for sure. My only gripe is they see you from way way way far away, and you think all is clear..20s later youre scouting a house and theres a zed scaring the piss out of you as it screams behind your back...or you just get hit lol. all part of the fun to be honest
-
Yeah they're not too bad, and with an axe or blunt object you can still thwart off like 5 at a time by running in a circle and whacking away lol. I was in a 3 story apt building in Berezino (I believe it was on the east coast) and one ran into the front door, acted like it was going up the stairs, then started hitting me. It hit me MANY times as I ran around the stairway to go find it. It was stuck on the bottom floor, hit me probably 5 or 6 times. I did not get any broken bones but my gear was almost all ruined, was Pristine prior. Its alpha, but still going on. Not nearly as bad as it used to be. Now you just have to deal with the zeds having better vision than superman...seriously..they see you like 1000m away lol

Anyone else lost their characher past 24hours?
.Ender. replied to kimmaz's topic in General Discussion
yup. Lost mine on Friday. Host lost connection (thought it was for a restart). rejoined, lost everything started on the coast. glad its not just me..though sucks people are losing their stuff...but its never bad to start fresh id just hate to have to do it randomly every few days which would get old and make it worth trying to play in a survival point of view useless... -
general Q about gameplay last night, so i think this is the right section.... But was there a known issue last night with servers restarting the characters? I was on a very stable server (one of the Dallas Stand alone ones) as usual. My character was a few days old and all of a sudden the server lost connection (there were no zeds or people anywhere near me when it happened). When I refreshed, logged in, my character was a bambi on the coast, everything gone. I changed a few servers to check and sure enough, gone. then of course I dealt with 99% rain without any food or drinks and died twice of starvation and hypo since nothing was spawning as far as loot. Im stable now again and honestly don't mind starting over, it just gets old when you get attached to a character lol..
-
the Zeds in the SA right now are of a 4th kind.... they have better vision than Superman. Apparently they all went and had laser eye/scope surgery right before the outbreak.. But they are not dangerous and pretty dumb..as I had about 6 at once running in circles next to me as I hacked them up one by one with a shovel..(190 hits later lol)
-
Once geared up I enjoy traveling. But the server I've been playing on is NON-STOP rain. So it seems I try to leave and I'll die of hypo or ruin all my gear within minutes. Im not a big fan of a single location. And when I played last year I actually memorized the map, you don't need a compass because if I recall the wind also goes from East to West, same as the sunrise/set..? Basically I gear up where I feel I wont be confronting well geared players, stash up on food/drinks then head out all over. Part of the fun is scouting towns from a hill for activity, and the suspense of running in, looting, and getting out without being shot at..or even better, looting and hearing foot steps right outside the building you're in :) I think if people had more intention of working together and not KoS or fear of it, we'd travel inland more in groups even poorly geared. The nice thing about not having good gear however, is you have nothing to lose if you do get killed..just run around without a care in the World until you get good gear. But as a lone wolf, you'll find me along the tree lines of small to midsized towns scouting, and just watching. I wont kill unless I feel someone's a threat.

Few random issues/questions for a "born again" player (search was not very helpful)
.Ender. posted a topic in General Discussion
So I haven't played since last October... bought a house, cars, got a gf (though she supports my gaming during the week haha)... so I just hadn't been able to game much at all and to be honest my short break from DayZ just sort of turned into a long term break up almost lol. I was excited to get back into the SA and I've been through the mod since almost day one. Game seems to really be making progress and I watched a few videos of where the game is heading (can't wait for vehicles soon!!). The last few nights I've tried getting back into the game, I've noticed a few things however that have me perplexed. I've been searching a lot and even with quotes I seem to be out of luck with reliable search results. It'll pull up tons of random threads not related at all even filtering the forum sections. Zombie Bodies: When I kill a zed (which thankfully don't seem to be glitching through walls or super zombies anymore lol), the new 'rag doll' thing must be buggy. Immediately following its death (redeath? ) the body just slides downhill. Then its not even lootable (not that I find anything on bodies anymore..haven't yet). Is this a major known issue with the bodies sliding down? **Side Note: these suckers can still see you 100's (yes many) yards away in the day light. I've literally seen a zed get agroed across a city/field. But at least at night they appear to be almost completely blind and deaf cause Ive walked nearly INTO one even with a flashlight, and they don't seem to care. Even flares don't seem to really attract them. And they seem to rarely even follow you into a building or open doors if you shut it behind yourself. Fireplaces/Camp fires: I have chopped wood and picked up the wood/sticks. I have matches. But having either does not give me the option to create/build a fire. Do I need more materials like rocks or something? *Suggestion: I would love to be able to utilize the stoves and fireplaces in buildings by adding wood/match. Since body temperature is such a big thing now, I see one in almost every building. It doesn't really make sense to not be able to stay dry (lots of rain I'm noticing....) and make a fire. I'm guessing they may implement this some day. Looting: I will be on a server with little to no players. Ill hit up a new town and almost every building or shack has little to no loot. Then I may hit a few things here and there, but places like the grocery store or apt's have no valuable items like compasses, clothes, etc. Just tons and tons of sodas. Even after a restart, I'll be the only player on. When I leave a city for a 100m or so and come back just to verify, many places still have zilch to loot. 3rd Person: personally, I love 3rd person. I know its not as realistic, but I enjoy seeing the character plus I have a tendency to pan a lot while running or moving about. I've noticed if I have a weapon in my hand (any type), and put it away using the same number (like 1 for rifle, hitting 1 again to put it away) my guys hands go up like hes trying to fight or in a defense mode. Its VERY annoying because he wont put them away unless I stand still for like 30+ second. He's basically 'raising' his melee/hands but I cant get them to go back down without changing menus or messing around and it'll randomly go back to normal stance (or as stated, I just stand there and he seems to relax a minute or less later). Journal: there was an option before (mod) to have a journal. Right now you hit "J" and it opens up the screen but theres literally no interaction or anything to do. Since I don't see the zed count, blood level, etc that the screen used to show in the HUD, I'd like to track things in my Journal. Is this not an enabled/functional feature at this time despite the controls showing 'J' for Journal? If someone has a link to any or all of these I'd be happy to read through the known issues/discussions. I know the hypo/hyper temperature thing is broken right now. I am excited to hear that vehicles are coming (Ive passed up a few parts since I know they're useless right now lol). But just to play a little more normal right now I thought I'd get these things out of my system as I am basically a 'new' player all over again. -
Few random issues/questions for a "born again" player (search was not very helpful)
.Ender. replied to .Ender.'s topic in General Discussion
yeah I just now got the fireplace to work! I did notice it wouldn't let me feed any sticks to the fire though...not sure if they go out at all yet...but if so ive got plenty of rags and sticks to make kits. are there animals yet in SA? I have yet to see a single one. Would be nice to have cooked meat vs rice or random junk. Anyways, thanks all for the fireplace bit, now that I know how it works I wont freeze to death lol. Now to attempt to find some ammo for my SKS... -_- -
Few random issues/questions for a "born again" player (search was not very helpful)
.Ender. replied to .Ender.'s topic in General Discussion
About to go play for a short bit, thought I'd check here. Thanks for the reply! Ill give the spacebar thing a try. And as for the zeds not having loot, I guess it wont concern myself with that issue at the moment then! I don't have much problem killing them with my melee, as Ill circle them counter clockwise and pretty much can stay out of their attack zone. One maybe two hits max is all it seems to take aiming for the head. @SoulFirez thanks for the info. Interesting you cant light a fire with just firewood/log and matches. I suppose its plausible to need the rags as a starter, but I don't find a lot of bandages or items to tear into rags, so that seems like a waste just to start a fire. Though since im constantly cold or getting cooling, I guess I better try that method. Thanks! -
The stoves and fireplaces in buildings should definitely be functional features. Of course using one would put a limited amount of smoke out of the pipes revealing activity, but it would allow you to stay dry and warm. Also, did they change the ability to make fireplaces with just matches and wood? I haven't been on in almost a year and read through a lot of new features..but I was playing the other night and with sticks, wood, and matches, I couldn't start/build a fire anywhere. I believe it used to be through the matches option. and I'm guessing the sticks are for splints or something while you need actual wood logs to start/maintain fires. Should also be able to compile a certain amount of sticks into logs or enough to start a fire, since 100% of wood is 100% of wood regardless of how its chopped up (as in 5 sticks = 1 log to burn)

Temperature effects are broken since hotfix
.Ender. replied to ColonelBurton's topic in General Discussion
I have been away from DayZ since last October...something new killing people, same ol same ol. Its an alpha I understand. But I am glad to see others are having issues and its not just me. I started last night, ran around in the pitch black for an hour and got food and drinks. Played today for 30 minutes and got weapons, and decent gear started up. Then I find a plane crash in berezino (sp?) and investigate. I'm noticing after a server restart and no other players, theres little to ZERO loot. So I see a school and I head in. Maybe 3 items period. While in the school, it starts raining. Within 2 minutes, my character starts sneezing, coughing, I have that infection/cold thingy around my blood symbol, and it starts going down in a few minutes. Im hydrated, fed, full blood, and temp is fully red. Then I can barely see, I have a hatchet, pistol, gun, and cant switch to my flashlight and put my hatchet on my belt because it keeps saying theres no room..okay whatever, so now I have to drop a weapon in order to use my flashlight? right... Since my blood started going down to about half, I decided to run in the dark for the hell of it and just let a few zeds eat me so I could die. No more cold, problem solved. Point...same ol same ol. Dying from something other than what was intended in the game and highly unrealistic lol. Cant wait until 2040 when this game is complete and there are limited bugs :)
