What is the difference between the mods, specifically Origins? I have always played Vanilla only since last year. Two days ago started Epoch, but haven't engaged in any real noticeable changes. What is Origins?

wonder what kind of server load they're expecting compared to what will really happen. Since the clients are no longer taking on the blunt of the work load. -
Questions from a returning player

cool, thanks for the info! Ill check out that link right now. Im actually hurt and about to die after acquiring some decent gear so I guess Ill have to start over anyways. But so far other than a neat base and some locked vehicles, everything seemed the same. (Oh, and harvesting plants for food...was that an upgrade to Vanilla as well?). Anyways, so far its enjoyable other than breaking my leg after changing into different clothing, and then bleeding profusely even after using up my bandages. Gotta love glitches :) -

Well the help would be appreciated...I can go to whichever server is required for ad :P I was last playing vanilla with some TMW folks as I have in the past. I just thought I'd try something different. Im on the DayZcraft PVE Epoch server (185.2.138.92:3187). Id prefer to play again today but I suppose beggers (and broken leggers) cant be picky when they're dying :) -

Ive been playing on the server for 2 nights now and Ive only seen one person. I play late at night here in the US (GMT -6). The teamspeak never had anyone on either. Am I not seeing something? Right now though it doesn't matter, my character is about to die with a bad blood loss and broken leg from...get this...changing clothing lol. But if you guys wanna get my leg all fixed up Id be happy to join and help out against bandit teams! -
Dunno if this is the wrong spot for this thread, but I need some help. I have been playing Vanilla since DayZ came out. (off and on). Yesterday I tried Epoch. So far its basically the same except I found locked vehicles and a pretty cool custom fortress..lol. But I was changing outfits in a residential building I came across. As soon as I put on the rebel outfit from my spawned civy, I broke my leg. Well it wasn't just that and that's it..I can crawl around and survive. But then I started bleeding profusely. Now I had one bandage and lots of meat. Within a minute or two I started bleeding again and lost almost all my blood. No more bandages, one more meat, and no epipen to fix my broken bone. Is this known? Should I have just not changed? Does anyone support medic services in the Epoch mod? Kind of sucks..was doing well and now I die not from players or zeds, but because I apparently cant figure out how to put on camo pants without hurting myself.... :/

DayZ Epoch - issue changing outfits

hah... yeah well it shows how long Ive been out of it...just sucks my character will die for something so silly. Ill just die an honorable and fairly horrible death, hacking away at zed ankles until my last drop of blood.... -

DayZ Epoch - issue changing outfits
.Ender. replied to .Ender.'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
well that sucks. Looks like Ill have to let myself bleed out and start all over. Exactly the reason I quit playing before..dying after lots of hard work because of some random thing. -

DayZ Early Access on SteamDB.info?

Im with you completely Esolu...I love the game as it was in vanilla form. I don't like big weapons and easy travel and things that make the game basically the opposite of what it was about. Do you remember what drew you to the game in the original days? I remember reading about it, about seeing videos on YouTube, about how hard it was to survive a few minutes to a few hours, if you were good. Now people can survive (like my previous character) for over a year if you know the ropes. This game was designed for people to barely be able to survive. To keep you on your toes, to have no advantage ever, or if you did it was quickly taken away by a greedy bandit who wants what you've worked so hard for. The SA will hopefully go back to that a bit, with more stability and complex game play. But I started playing Epoch (my first mod other than vanilla itself since DayZ came out) a few days ago. Tonight was my first hour or two in it. I so far have noticed nothing different but the huge well built base (that I cannot break into lol). But the reason I joined an Epoch server was to do something different, for now. I will gladly give up the easy ways of DayZ and start all over for the SA. But I like vehicles because 1. Im a car guy. I just love the ownership and maintenance, the quick drives, loot, drive off kind of feeling. and 2. because its (supposed to be) a rare perk in the game and when you get one you feel empowered. Everyone wants what you now have and will literally kill for it. But when hordes are roaming the country side and not just towns anymore, vehicles will be even more important. You'll have to watch your back in the woods and at night when you could normally at least travel by foot unharmed until you got close to a town. I just hope its as fun as the initial DayZ and we all know it was bugged to hell. But I still enjoyed the piss out of it at first. I came back after a long stint of no DayZ and am so confused with allllllllll the damn mods available. Ive yet to look into any other than Epoch. And probably wont. -

follow up... not too bad today. I was able to get a lot of decent supplies, cook meat, found a few inventory items, and even a secured base. Unfortunately the lock pick kit I found cant break large locked doors apparently. But I hope to run into a group that's looking for someone else to join and help out in Epoch :) -
yeah I miss the vanilla days where you could just last for days, weeks, or months with an axe and all the food and drinks you could find. I like the addition of certain items like needing to sanitize food or drinks or whatever, but taking out my ability to use a hatchet as a liable weapon when my hitting isn't the problem but the registered hits and zeds abilities is, is kind of deterring from my want to play. Im going to try again here in a bit. Hopefully I have better luck the second time around. My first character lasted over 1 year...my new character on Epoch lasted about 30 minutes lol.

Questions from a returning player
.Ender. replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah...I tried it last night. Was on the DayZcraze (I think it was) server and no one else was on. I spawned in, ran around and quickly realized that having an axe is useless almost completely now days. With no one to help me after I lost all my blood, I was oddly alive for a long time with zero blood just crawling around, going in and out of consciousness. Ill try it again. Its a Euro server so more might be on now (6pm US time). -
I actually find the hiding the fun part. Every now and then Ill roll with TMW and go on parts runs or supply runs. Very seldom do we engage with other players typically because of the server we're on. But the reason I lonewolf so much is because people are not playing when I am very often. I play late at night here in the US. Its fun going in groups and doing raids but Ive never played consistently enough with people to rely on them to be there when I want to play. I would do it more if I knew when people were on but even TMW teamspeak is dead when Im on almost every time. And that's usually just help missions and waiting around a lot of the time. I think it'd be fun to build a vehicle with at least 3 or 4 people and drive around just looking to randomly upgrade as we scour the lands. Not really caring where we go as long as we go in, loot, gear up, and move on. Like a bunch of roaming gypsies haha.

go to YouTube and watch the Standalone previews/video blogs. They talk about making them smarter, faster, and more importantly (a modification I like) is roaming hordes. Trust me, once the glitches are fixed, we'll have a tough time as they plan on having at least 3,000 zeds on the server at any time. They will be there always, not just populated per client location like now. I was trying Epoch for the first time ever last night (Ive always only played vanilla, and the original since day 1). I literally hit each zed with the hatchet 4 or 5 times, made clear hits, wacked across the head, and they were able to keep hitting me. I even got hit once from afar after I started running. I think more, quicker, smarter, but not stronger would be the best combination. I remember reading a while back that 'newer' zombies will be less effective as well and the ones that live may grow in strength (hp) and speed or something. So they can actually evolve as a more worthy opponent over time if they survive longer.

Questions from a returning player
.Ender. replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ive been wondering a lot of this myself. I was playing almost since the initial game came out, straight vanilla. My character was over 372 days old and had everything..had been through a lot and it was horrible that I lost him simply from forgetting you cant change seats when in a heli...of course I did not know they included parachutes now..haha. But..the vanilla aspect is dead unless you're playing with others and Im tired of fighting infections constantly and super power zeds that can do anything, many things you cant. So Ive thought about trying Epoch. Is it something you spawn in and can find a few players to show you the ropes, like the traders and stuff, or do you just walk around and hope you don't get shot? It def sounds more like a slightly more 'civilized' set up where people are forming groups. That does add some nice change though as Im tired of the lonewolf approach for days on end scavenging for food. -
Part of the fix for constant infections would be going back to a slightly more reasonable ability to hack at zeds with an axe without dying by random glitch hits. I was playing again when I reposted this after a long time. My character was 372 days old. I had hundreds of axe/headshot kills. I used to walk somewhat fearlessly into towns and while avoiding players, had no problem killing a zed at a time with stealth, and was damn good at it. Other than an occasional broken leg from a miss hit where they'd get me, I was able to survive on an axe alone. Now, Ill literally hit a zed in the head 3x and they'll still come at me. Let alone the fact that they'd be 15 ft away and I hear a sound that Ive been hit and am now infected. So I wouldn't have a problem with the infection as much if both variables weren't worse...zed randomness/glitches + infection probability rate. I wish I played more often. I really enjoy the game..and part of it is getting used to the new glitches, patches, and mods to where you are comfortable enough to survive in them and know the ropes. Every time I come back now there's something different and its frustrating. Cant wait until there is a STANDARD game to play that's not dynamic in its gameplay. Then again, alpha and beta game versions are that way for a reason..our experiences are what help the final product. I just wish there were deer or more wild animals to hunt. Maybe becoming a bandit isn't a bad idea..all the free survival necessities and none of the effort in obtaining it :)

Trust NO ONE. Except those helpful people at TMW. Basically your best bet is to run from the road blocks..chances are if you've acquired the parts to build a running vehicle (unless you were lucky enough to find one) you should have the skills necessary to escape and knowledge to not be driving by one anyways. The probability of dying at a road block is near guaranteed. hell the chase would be fun anyways if they pursued anyways so let them see you, honk then turn and run to see f they give chase just for fun. the thrill would be exciting. Then if you get out of site, park, leave the vehicle, you can pick them off as they approach your vehicle, then just pray you're a better shot. Your best bet for survival is to find a player or two you trust that you know, and stick to a pattern (between cities and small towns that are good for loot, something close to medical supplies if you get sick). Staying in the tree lines, hunting and searching for survival gear at night (find a military flashlight, zeds don't even see them when you're in their face), and ALWAYS assume every person you see is there to harm you. Assuming they dont see you yet, let them pass, don't talk to them, and wait for them to leave. I sit in tree lines and just watch towns and pick off zeds for fun. I don't go into big cities and only do I go into towns for food and drinks, then leave. I have never had to kill a single player but one that killed me after I think he spawned on top of me outside of the northern hills in Starry. I went back and found him, then got all my stuff back. He was too stupid to leave the area knowing I'd know his location. But its fun to have your crosshairs on someone the whole time, thinking "I can pop you in one hit"...but I don't. Sorry for the rant...I don't play as often as I used to and its always fun to read the forums..the game has changed quite a bit but the simple concept of survival has never changed.. kill on site (kos) or simply be a shadow and develop your ninja skills lol

it does seem a bit excessive. I just came back after 9+ months of not playing because of hackers making it almost unplayable. So Im happy to be back, only to find I get infected if the wind is blowing wrong. I spent my entire first day back getting helped (from TMW, shout out!) because a single hit from two separate zeds infected me because my axe didn't kill as quickly as it used to, and they glitched as Im swinging at them (never had that problem before). That was AFTER I had been infected when spawning into a server without rain, but just sitting there at night trying to relearn all the controls in the game. Within 30min I was coughing. Then I had no way of fixing it until after it was too late. So I agree with the infections...I don't agree with how easily and quickly we get infected if theres not a craftable way to fix it if you cannot find AB. Sure, ive heard you can sleep in a tent, but ive also heard its a rare fix. How about having a plant in the game in the woods throughout the landscape that you can cook with water to make up a few batches of AB? Basically an alternative for those of us who want to be more crafty if we cant find AB'. As stated, I used to be pretty darn good...I could raid entire cities with an axe and almost always be untouched or heal myself quickly. But now Im raiding cities to find AB's that I have to use before I even get out of the city, so its basically counter-productive. Oh, and side note...put a lot more wild life/domestic animals in the game for us to kill. They used to be more abundant I think...and cooked meat would be nice to have on hand and youd still have the need to go into town for clean fresh water (though infected) since you cant use salt water.

Hell...its prob been a lot longer actually. I think closer to the end of last year. Whenever the talk of introducing dogs was first supposed to be released or something. anyways...I left because the game was so full of cheaters it was unbearable. Id spend weeks with the same character, helping the medics, enjoying the game and then have to keep leaving servers and finding ones no one was on just to avoid being hacked and messed with. It literally just became frustrating to the point logging in wasn't worth my time. Kitten videos were once again more entertaining than an hour in DayZ. However I love the game concept and would like to pick it up again. But the last time I played there were only two maps....the island that I never played on (PvP if I recall basically) and the regular standard one. Now theres like a billion of them. Is cheating still a huge problem? whats with all the damn maps? whats mostly different from 6-9 months ago? I am currently on: DayZ Commander: 0.9.1.69 ARMA2: 103419 I know these are probably hugely out of date..but there are now like 30 or more 'mods' to install and all have different versions and stuff. What gives? I used to play with the Medics quite a bit on vent and it was fun. But Im wondering if its still the same ol BS and not worth it. thoughts?

just make sure you note the coordinates of where you dropped the loot. It makes it easier for the rest of us to help you locate it incase you forgot where you set it down :)
