I know , I was actually generally speaking about bullying. However, in the case of DayZ it's easy to know the other player's steam name. But I think you're right that (serious) bullying in DayZ doesn't really happen.
-
It does not fall into serious mental issues. Do you know what serious mental issues are?? Cyber bullying is a big problem nowadays and young teens don't always know how to cope with such bullying. Serious mental issues are not the cause for depression/suicide, ..., but instead it's cyber bullying that can lead to mental issues. "Cyberbullying is an intense form of psychological abuse, whose victims are more than twice as likely to suffer from mental disorders compared to traditional bullying.". -"Cyberthreat: How to protect yourself from online bullying". Ideas and Discoveries (Ideas and Discoveries): 76. 2011.

Harm can be done has been done severely already! Some people cannot cope well with some things that are said/done over the internet. Cyber bullying can be very very harsh and is not to be underestimated.

I think that restricting your son to singleplayer games or multiplayer games where verbal abuse is non-existent is a good idea. Dayz is full of idiots and people whose only goal is to annoy others. DayZ is a big no for a 14 yr-old imo. Maybe at 15 or 16 you could introduce him to games where verbal abuse exists like CS, Dota, DayZ,... because he will inevitably have to come in contact with it. Multiplayer games that seem ok for me are games like Battlefield. You can turn the chat off and there's no voice chat so I see no problem for your son to play that multiplayer game. Other games like this that I play are War Thunder(it's a warplanes video games) and Starcraft II(you can turn the profanity filter on, recommended!) PS: Don't rely on the PEGI/ESRB ratings because they are completely outdated and do not work at all. Violence in video games is usually completely okay as long as your child realizes it's a GAME. Most teens realize that. I've played violent games(like Call of Duty 2) since I was 12 and I have never punched somebody in real life, I'm a real pacifist :D. A game where I'd rely on the ratings is definitely GTA(17+). PS2: An amazing site that I'd recommend to all parents is this one: http://www.commonsensemedia.org/ Just type in the name of the video game in the search bar and and it'll tell you all you need to know about the game and whether it's appropriate for kids. The site is however quite strict so be sure to also read the parent's reviews(which tend to be too soft).

Well it's getting annoying that any estimating skills of Rocket are completely lacking. Whenever you see any estimate or promise you just know that you cannot trust it anytime. -

You might not agree with him but do you really need to start insulting people and even wishing them to die in a fire? And then you link a video of a person that admires Hitler and is clearly a fascist... I'm all up for freedom of speech but imo this is spreading hate and does not belong in a decent forum. -

Looking forward to that shotgun! :D But considering that the M4 already has low accuracy, I fear the accuracy of the sawed-off. -
This. Don't play anymore and come back in a few months.

Why does every person with a gun shoot on sight?
alphamat replied to joeymp's topic in General Discussion
I was in a house and someone walked in with a mosin.. I panicked, ran out of the house and then shot the guy once when he came out(his weapon lowered). He didn't die and just stood there in front of me. He didn't even pull up his mosin. I instantly felt so ashamed and asked him if he needed anything. From his responses I noticed he was new to the game. I gave him a Saline bag IV and then tried to bandage him but he ran off. The point is that I shot on sight out of panic and that's all. I guess it happens to other people as well. -

I read a post from Day[9](he's famous and respected in the Starcraft 2 scene) on facebook today in which he said he played DayZ yesterday, had an unimaginably bad experience and will never again because it was "boring and buggy beyond comparison". I was very disappointed to see this and the reactions to that post as well... A well respected person should know better than that. I guess I'm just disappointed in people in general. People seem to fail to read disclaimers. On the Dayz steam page I can see 2 clear Warnings/disclaimers and there's even a "what the developers say" post where they strongly advise people not to buy the game. Why the duck do people still buy the game expecting a good experience? And then there are people that buy the game, hate it, complain about the game and the devs and don't agree with the excuse "but it's alpha".. Man people should learn to read. -

Jesus the game is barely out and people are already impatient as duck for the next patch? Play another game, get outside, meet a chick/dude and then come back. You'll have your patch then. The entitlement is strong in this community(mainly the new people). -

1) Rocket has deserved 3 relaxing weeks of holiday. I believe he and the team have worked their asses off, especially since October(https://twitter.com/rocket2guns/status/383965259712589824). And who the hell are you to say he's being unprofessional? 2) "We'll be out of comms for a few weeks during the holiday period, returning on 14.01.2014". (http://dev.arma3.com/sitrep-00038). It appears it's normal practice for BI to take a prolonged holiday. You don't expect them to hire new people during their holidays, right? Let's trust the developers, I'm sure they do their best. -
Are people allowed running PvE servers? Because I've seen a few of them and firstly I think that it completely defeats the purpose of this game. Secondly can admins kick a player if he chooses to PvP after all? I'm not planning on playing on a PvE server and killing people but I'm just curious. I don't like people imposing such stupid rules.
