Backpacks in tents? (fully equiped backpack)
WilkyWilks replied to Delta (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
All the experiences we've had with full backpacks being placed in tents have turned out poorly. I'm fairly sure that if you do, you will lose either a) lose the items within the bag or b ) lose the items AND the bag. I'm sure it has something to do with nested data or something, as both as considered containers. If someone has evidence indicating otherwise, cool, but we've never chanced it. -
I lost my ghillie suit logging into 1.7.2 will I get it back in next hotfix?
WilkyWilks replied to anttonoo's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
You will not likely be getting it back. -
Dogs are working their way in. They don't even need to be infected, there are plenty of post-Soviet states that have issues with packs of wild dogs that kill people, etc. to this day, let alone ones that are zombified. Although I'll hate to see the forums the day they make the middle of the woods "unsafe". Carebears sure love to sit in the middle of nowhere....

My first murder and now I feel guilty
WilkyWilks replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
"Friendly" is a system generated from fear. People who want to play together are in fear of other players and zombies. People who want to horde gear together. The only time you're free in this game is when you don't care about your loot or if the guy next to you is going to pull the trigger after staring at the back of your head for what feels like an eternity. That being said, anyone in Cherno? :P -
Girlfriend plays on a 9800 gtx that I had lying around. It'll work with pretty "low end" cards (i.e. cards that came out after the game released) but you'll definitely need to fiddle with the options for awhile to find the right balance between playability and glamour that the game is capable of.

Do we have any advantage over the infected?
WilkyWilks replied to cowdung's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Definitely learn the ins and outs of LoSing zombies. It's important because that feature and spawning with no weapon came out in the same patch. (Before you had a makarov, but the zombies would follow you indefinitely - take your pick on what was "better", but I prefer being able to out wit them and not expend ammo.) The primary considerations are that: You will get hit if you crouch run away from a chasing zombie. You must stand and run, which will also attract more zombies. Prone is not an invisible toggle, but it's worthwhile to spend the extra 5 minutes to get somewhere instead of the next 15 trying to evade zombies and the bandits that will inevitably follow the zombie train. Zombies can still hear you once you break LoS and aggro due to that. I won't just TELL you how to avoid them, but it takes time and learning how to survive is practically all the fun in the game. Besides killing people. -
is there even a point in going to nw airfield?
WilkyWilks replied to t3hnoob's topic in New Player Discussion
As part of a group who regularly raids the NW airfield, I'll give you a few pointers after addressing if it's "worth it". The two barracks at the NW are absolutely great locations for procuring military grade weaponry. They also have the chance to spawn the rarer of the items there. Consider the loot tiers for higher quality military weapons as Stary Sobor < NW Airfield Barracks < Helicopter Crashes. The benefit to the Airfield is that it is a consistent location, as Helicopter Crashes are hard to come by (or often, easy as hell. luck and probability and all that jazz.) However, there are a few considerations if you want successfully raid the airfield. Do Not Linger: the longer you stick around, the more likely enemies are going to spot you. A key thing that we look for is zombie spawns which give away that someone is in the area. It's very easy to scout the airfield and know where other players generally are simply by the existence of zombies. Do Not Get Greedy: snag the equipment if it's for you, and move on. Don't sit there and cycle it regularly. Scout Often: As mentioned before, it's very easy to tell if players are at the airfield (unless they are sniping for the surrounding area, which I'll get to next). Never Cross the Tarmac: Always circle around unless you are POSITIVE there is no one watching it. (The only way you can be positive is to have a sizeable team watching all angles). If you're working with a team, it's very easy to control your area at the airfield. Just make sure you only have 1 person looting a barracks with the other on perimeter. We've easily stomped 4-6 man teams with me and one clan mate because they all ran into the barracks to try and snag loot. We simply picked them off one by one as they exited. Best of luck. -
Grab some friends to play with before roaming Chernarus. Also, saying that Americans are detracting from the game environment just flags you as someone most people would prefer to shoot rather than deal with in the first place.

Re: Spawning without a Weapon - Reality Check
WilkyWilks posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In response to many of the people voting in this thread: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=10806 (I created a new thread as I felt many of the responses in that thread were too short to really create an informative discourse on the issues relevant to new characters and how this effects them. Delete the thread if need be :) ). It seems a majority are voting no due to the inherent fear of bandits with better weaponry patrolling along the coast and killing new players. While understandable, I'll note a few things: -Most bandits who simply murder along the coast, often are using a makarov and procuring the ammunition from the starting player murders. This would actually create LESS opportunity for them to go on a murder spree. -Players who have traveled north and come back down with high powered weaponry, and new players not being able to fight back is an inevitability, and there is little chance that you would likely be able to drop them with the makarov anyway. Avoidance has always been the key. -Wheres your sense of adventure and the thrill of being you versus the world? -

Hey, I just see a listing of deaths, the debug menu detecting none of it, and those players dying often in the console. None of it is conclusive. -
Two cheaters caught on tape
WilkyWilks replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
As far as I can tell, you gained no murder for killing the players on the top of that roof. In addition, the death message being displayed in the bottom left is for players who are being killed in the debug forest. A player named Freckles killed Opex from the debug forest shortly after your the first time, but normal death messages are occurring throughout the video. I'd almost assume someone is debug forest killing folks (shakespade and freckles) and opex and vlad are victims based off this video. You provide no actual evidence of this occurring by going up the tower and showing they spawned into that location with loot more than once. -

Did you know that bandits also have to fight the zombies? They also spawn with no weapons when they die. Arm yourself, just like they do!

This is all under the assumption the person responding to this thread saying he is one of the alleged hackers is, in fact the hacker. Could be a throwaway account, and looking at the posting history, the "dagon" poster has other people from this thread posting in pretty much every other thread he's posted in as well.

Re: Spawning without a Weapon - Reality Check
WilkyWilks replied to WilkyWilks's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is not a game. This is a survival sim. I do not know many people who have handguns and morphine readily available at their home. In addition, assuming that all the other players are trying to artificially increase the difficulty of the game through removing equipment at the start denotes two things: -You assume other players take no risks, but if they took no risks and "did nothing", would they not consider the current state of the game considerably challenging? -Your goal of "doing things" in the game is, due to it being a resource gathering sandbox sim with combat, means many different things to many different people. This is a discussion about one of the core items that EVERY player experiences. Rather than present pros and cons, you presented only how your style of approaching this sim was worthwhile, and that any other opinions are irrelevant, as they are not in line with you wanting to "do things". I have no idea what your goals are, but I prefer to stay alive as long as possible, which is hard enough after 2 weeks when you still go into hotzones every time you log in to pilfer more ammo. The difficulty of the sim levels out VERY fast once you are knowledgeable about the mechanics. Oh, I died? I'll just sprint back to the north to my tent and snag another m4a1 cco that I have stockpiled from being alive for weeks. I don't have to worry about death at all if I please! This alteration to the starting equipment forces players to avoid zombies more than just run and gun them as is the approach now. I feel it benefits the player to be afraid from the getgo than already be striving for their tent city empire at devil's castle. -

WilkyWilks replied to WilkyWilks's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd say players should spawn with a backpack/satchel, as almost every household has one. They're something most folks don't throw out as their continually useful and don't wear down from a lack of use.
