Seriously? The removal of global chat wasn't even a month ago and you still need a beta patch for it to be removed.
-
It has nothing to do with the chat. The channels still exist, they aren't removable. If you place down a marker while being in global channel, everyone can see it.

goodbye side chat...i shall miss thee...
TonyStarks replied to lowerplains's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It is server side. I played on a server yesterday that had side-chat enabled and it was as annoying and distracting as I remembered. "lol just dodged a bunch zombies" "nice :DD" "found some beans too" "can you guys tell me what time is it on the server" "hey guys i just started playing can you explain the controls to me" "who's shooting in cherno" -
I group up with strangers all the time. If i get shot, it happens on sight. I've never been back stabbed by someone after teaming up.

1. It's server side 2. Global chat ruins immersion 3. Meta-gaming should not be supported within the game 4. It's annoying and distracting 5. I don't want to read a global-chat conversation where little bobby tells little jimmy about how he just avoided some zombies.

Cocaine, Crack, Heroin, Hydrocodone, Inhalants, LSD, Marijuana, MDMA (Ecstasy), Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth), OxyContin, Pills, Cough linctus, Glue sniffing, Alcohol, Tobacco etc. Drugs would add another layer of much needed authenticity to the game. There has always been a huge underground economy on mind-altering chemicals and in a post-civilization environment, drugs would be quite common, useful and sought after. Drugs could add temporary benefits like added pain resistance, numbness, health boosts, sight and hear improvements, lack of appetite, concentration etc. besides huge risks both temporary and long-term. The chance of a bad trip would be determined by your current condition, zombies killed, amount of blood, murders etc or be totally random. Hallucinations, passing out, dying because of hunger or thirst, overdosing and of course risk of withdrawal symptoms due to addiction. Fallout 3 did it pretty well if I remember correctly. Hallucinations were horrifying and temporary benefits were useful. There never has been a more perfect environment for drugs than in this game. I remember rocket saying something about the inclusion of drugs and mentioning that it would send out a bad signal to kids or something. I'm not really sure if he was joking or not but if he wants to make this game as authentic as possible, drugs must be added. This is not a commercial game, there are no fear of ratings, censoring, parental outrage or the like, it all lies in the hands of rocket and his team. Ignoring one of the biggest matters of society would be quite strange to me seeing that we are confronted with drugs daily. Maybe start little with things like tobacco or alcohol.

no Side chat = Community Growth will be damaged

Side-chat was distracting and took away from the atmosphere and immersion. -
Simple, easy Idea that is very easy to implement and has a big impact. Some sort of notebook everyone starts with. Players could write down anything they'd like, for instance what items they found, who they encountered, personal feelings, poetic etc. Could be abused for vulgar language and ascii images but I think only a very very small percentage of players would treat the feature like that. Reading others notebooks you find on dead players or share with mates would deepen immersion. Knowing that a player actually had an identity and went through things would add a lot of emotional impact. I personally would quite enjoy reading other peoples stories. It's all about immersion in this game, for me at least, and adding this feature would greatly enhance the authenticity of the world. The only problem I see with this is slot space. I mean you're not going to carry around 20 journals. Maybe they stack? Suggest solutions please.

Bury survivor to regain humanity
TonyStarks replied to A Man Named GOB's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Very nice idea. I like it. Humanity farming could be a problem though. -
I'm not trying to offend anyone here, just wondering. There seems to be a large minority of Russians/Cyrillic script using people playing this. Even the official forums have a whole section dedicated to them. Any english speaking Russians care to explain?

Now that you've mentioned it, I kinda find it weird too. We all know how many Cod kiddies there are out there, now they don't only kill for loot but for prestige too. Pared with the "no starting gun" it is actually the most valid point I've heard so far. I can see bandits now just camping the shore killing survivors because they want to get on the leader boards. Kinda depressing actually, keeping numbers is fine but actually having leader boards with peoples names on it is strange. Influencing the behavior of players in such a negative way outside of the game is something I don't support.

I thought it was a bug that the gender selection window pops up every time I connect to a new server. I thought you were only allowed to chose one gender per cd-key.

No it fucking isn't. Like seriously' date=' are you constantly running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Then maybe I can understand how you think that "death can come at any moment". Downtime and constant forward walking is a big part of the game. Can't possibly understand how you can deny this. Maybe you're still in that "newbie paranoia phase". I know I was when i first started playing. Having downtime has no affect on the intentness. It actually makes encounters more intense after a long walk. -
Ah yes, the classic "killing freshly, unarmed survivors" argument. Gotta love those. Yeah sure, never mind the endless hunt for better loot because staying in one place and killing newly spawned survivors is so much fun! Never mind that freshly spawned survivors don't have anything worth a damn on them. Never mind that you would be wasting precious ammo for nothing. Never mind that you would have to eat and drink. Never mind that you would attract hordes of aggro zeds with your big mean, intimidating machine gun. The same people who bring up this totally stupid, dumb red herring of an argument must be the same that were part of the makarov survivor spamming on shore epidemic. Either that or they just started playing yesterday and think things were better with spawning weapons. You don't have any idea, ANY IDEA, how frustrating those makaroni knights were. No idea.

Actually this game has been getting around because it is something different and fresh. It wouldn't nearly have the attention if it just was another "shoot all zombies" game -
Here's a secret: Nobody cares about what you have to say if it isn't related to a DayZ suggestion. Nobody cares about your private life. You're just embarrassing but I guess that's the price to pay for having open forums.

So does detecting bandits through hearbeat actually work?
TonyStarks posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
For those who don't know what I'm talking about For some reason I'm always reminded of this feature when I actually stop playing. So, anyone here saved himself because of this. I'm not someone who shoots players on sight so this feature would be useful, if it actually works.
