A not-announcement announcement for the forums!
Epoch replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Glad to hear from you Rocket! Those of us that have followed the development of many games over the years know the hurdles and pitfalls you and your team are having to navigate. Not to mention the huge amount of work that rewriting a game engine to suit your needs really is. The honesty and transparency of the development of the Dayz Standalone has been truly refreshing. I have waited many, many months for updates on other games that I have followed through development by much bigger companies with well funded PR departments. "...we're not only making the game, we're redoing the engine specifically for the game." -Rocket That alone is some of the best news I've heard about the work you and your team are doing for DayZ Standalone. That is absolutely HUGE and the implications benefit the player directly! Keep your eye on the prize, and all will be well. <3's Edit: I almost forgot >.< Thanks for all your hard work too forum team, and all of you who have been working on the Mod, ya'll rock! -
Would you quit if servers went expert?
Epoch replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No I definitely wouldn't quit if all servers went "expert." I would be motivated to play more! I've been killed by people abusing 3dp more times than I can remember, and because of this I also abuse 3dp when I'm playing on a server where its enabled. I find that I play on servers with 3dp enabled only because they have high populations. Whereas 1st person only servers servers are usually rather empty sadly. The one glaring downfall of 1st person view in dayz is the abysmal fov. I know you can change it and I have, but mill dots on all sniper rifles are no longer an accurate means of determining range once you change your fov. If that can be remedied and we are given the ability to change our fov in-game in the standalone, I don't feel like there would be any reason to have 3dp at all. It would level the playing field, and I think that's a really good thing. Edit: I forgot to mention the map features expert takes away, sine I've never liked playing on anything less than Veteran servers. Nameplates are plane silly for obvious reasons. IMO being able to see your current map location and the ability to use waypoints should only be available once you've acquired a GPS. Seeing your current location on your paper map is a debatable feature, but waypoints seem pretty logical to me once you've acquired a GPS. -
Gee wilickers, aint that just the bee's knees, I couldn't be happier! In all seriousness the things you mentioned in the blog post sound like really positive steps forward for DayZ. Especially non-exploitable gamma, the server client relationship, clothes, and weapon/item changes. Knowing that your focusing on game mechanics and general functionality before adding more bells and whistles has really put my mind at ease. I <3 this development team!

Which app do you recomend to use to record videos?
Epoch replied to mitor's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
I use MSI Afterburner, and as far as I can tell it barely influences my frame rate and also makes significantly smaller files than Fraps. I have also heard good things about Dxtory, but have not tried it myself. I also use MSI Afterburner to control my GPU's fans since Catalyst Control Center doesn't allow fan control profiles, I highly recommend you try it out.
