    Why not three hour dayz?

    Off topic: love your name.

How to make the map more engaging.

Awesome ideas. Yes, map size will limit those down quite a bit, but I'd still love to see at least two of your ideas in it. Beans given! Great thing is, that such a city is possibly to come, looking at the network of streets and trails up north. Also: you're really into fortifying, right? The term comes up so often, you'd fortify your own grandma or something. ;-)

    Character Resets After new Update?

Same here - same fate. I know it's alpha and everything, I was just curious whether something was known here or in reddit - I thought it happened to some people that their character from hours ago was restored. Oh well.

    Zombies: Standalone vs. Mod

So, somebody complained about DayZ being too static. Why not make zombles more variable? Nothing gamebreaking but think of Zombies having two stats: x/10 speed and x/10 strength - with only 10 points to (randomly) assign to each attribute in total. Resulting in something like: SA-Zombie (standard, currently): 5/10 speed and 5/10 strengthRunner: 9/10 speed and 1/10 strength, (doing basically no damage but being a huge pain in the ass, unable to shake off, being very creepy, maybe scream in weird ways? Irghs.)Walker: 1/10 speed and 9/10 strength, (being easy to avoid but if you happen to be in the path while you're afk taking a dumb, god save you from that one-hit)and others in that spectrum, like 3/10 speed and 7/10 strength and so on.Would love it and should be doable to implement.
  6. The whole point of this discussion is the fear of a disappointing endgame. For reasons.
  7. Happy New Year, fellow bandits and survivors, snipers and spotters, explorers and adventurers! We all know DayZ is a lot about running. Running from the coast, running from zombles, running for friends, running for your life. How about moving vertically? Currently, some space in the beautiful map of Chernarus is not exactly used. There are steep hills and towering mountains, rooftops and heights still unexplored. Yet already, gear like headtorches and ropes are already ingame. What's to add? Think of this: Ok, why? There are several interesting ideas about going vertical: hide & be safe (read: feel safe),(counter)snipe, store stuff in hidden places, enjoy the view, build tent/storage/housing in remote places, just to name a few. Shoot some ideas if you like! Of course, all these could pose some unfair advantages. Still, think of the vulnerability you'd have to expose yourself to if you would like to enjoy one of these features. Favorable places are and would be well known and climbing your way up would require a lot of time and stamina - especially with a lot of gear. Also, getting back down might be another huge risk! What about game mechanics? Well, you shouldn't log out while hangin' round in Mount Moria - nor should you be able to lie down, else you prefer your personal Mount Doom. What if someone finds the rope one might have left? What if some uncourteous person sees you gaining height? Once your position is revealed, one could easily attract more attention than intended. I know that serverhopping is a threat to this idea. Still, serverhopping is a threat to any idea of a survival game, isn't it? My suggestion does rely on a working approach on that issue, please bear that in mind. How would that work? Well, obviously you would need some gear. Lacking a rope might result in a great risk, having nails and a pike (I'm lacking vocabulary here, please excuse) would make things safer. Spikes would be an asset of course, too. Climbing while it was raining could result in quick death. I don't know if the engine could make things work. I was thinking of something like basically constructing a sort of 'ladder', only visible as a rope that would be extended in small intervals, on and on - which of course is bound to each server, like a tent. Also, implementing such options might offer some interesting possibilities on map design and end game: think of a very high mountain in the far north of the map, featuring a point of interest (for the CoD/BF-crowd: m!lit4ry l3wt, to friends of roleplay: a research facility with patient zero) that you could reach for great reward or demise - either via a trail that attracts other people or the steep route via climbing, with other risks than interaction. Let me know what you guys think of that - I'm looking forward to an interesting discussion. Also, keep that italic sentence in mind concerning server-hopping - consider that climbing feature like the 3PP-thing: you might want to switch it on or off on your server, as you like. Thanks for your attention! "One does not simply climb in DayZ."

    [SUGGESTION] Yarrr, mountaineering!

I see your point; I'm obviously very enthusiastic about not dying by opening doorswalking stairsstepping over a stonegoing prone on a hillin 76 hours playtime since SA

    [SUGGESTION] Yarrr, mountaineering!

This. I haven't really found a good way of implementing that - there's no 'random'-function that just let's you slip in the face of a mountain - nor is there something like a 'omgwtfbbq'-action that let's you grab the next ledge in order to avoid certain death from repelling without a rope ;)

    [Suggestion]: Feign Death, Zombie Walk

I'd love to see people roleplaying dead press reporters. Also, seeing one lonesome 'zombie' in the middle of nowhere, just walking one direction would scare me shitless.

    [Suggestion]: Feign Death, Zombie Walk

Great idea. Like it's stated on reddit, there's still risk involved - people might just place another bullet at you in order to secure your death. The zombie walk was a cool option, but why would I do it without being strong with the force and sensing people several hundred meters away?

    [SUGGESTION] Yarrr, mountaineering!

I would imagine the engine at the core being a good guess - like, there is only so much stuff possible without breaking the whole game. I would love to have an engine like the one Dead Island uses, just without zones but with one big map. Guess, we both have to stick around some more time for that to happen! ;) You've been to the army? What are your ideas on 'moving vertically'?

    Leveling up

Well, 'humanity' was an interesting approach back in the mod - meaning that if you kill a lot of players, you would spawn as a bandit, easily to be mistrusted by other players. Nevertheless, these things got quickly obsolete when you found a suit that would disguise you. So yeah, I absolutely agree. Think of only you knowing certain recipies or places! Ah, the internets, curse and salvation at once.

    [SUGGESTION] Yarrr, mountaineering!

I wouldn't be so negative about it: Arma II did things like constructing houses and so on - so in my opinion, the idea of a tiny rope functioning like a ladder wasn't too absurd. Yet of course, I'm not a developer. Recently I read a thread mentioning possible bunkers and the like without a big workaround in mapconstruction. Of course, taste is something difficult to argue about, but the contemporary products of BI kept me way longer attracted than stuff like BF or D3. This huge world is something I always dreamed about in games like Jedi Knight or Delta Force in the 90s! It's marvellous!
  15. I would expect the dev-team to avoid all things like gaining virtual experience or improvement. Following the idealism from the mod to the standalone, the only thing to 'level' is you, playing your character: learning which tools to use for which cause, getting to know the area and the map etc. Of course, this is almost impossible with resources like wikis or maps. Great suggestions imho - I would welcome it. I just think it won't be implemented.

    [SUGGESTION] Yarrr, mountaineering!

Exactly! I think that a lot of good suggestions in the community yearn for a wider range of interesting things to do - something that might also draw attention away from the eternal spawn-loot-shoot-cycle to a more flexible way of playing the game. This cycle is like a bottleneck, focussing all discourse to a pro/con-KoS topic.

    Leveling up

Of course, leveling adds some features to a game. But I don't expect leveling as seen in other games being a milestone to reach with DayZ. From what I read over the years, more and more realism is the goal. So creatively seen, you actually are already leveling while playing the game. You get to learn things like opening a can of tuna with a wrench proves way more difficult than opening a head with the same tool. You learn that there's a 20-minute difference between 'NEAF' and 'NWAF'. You will learn that being social might not keep you alive - and so on. I could well imagine that the greatest addition to DayZ would actually be to make things like the DayZ-wiki or the map resources impossible - so that you constantly learn the only thing that lasts in DayZ: you playing your character.
  18. Nice choice of words - I see people googling that. @medical division: love the roleplay. Keep it coming!

    Running slowly?

Absolutely the same here. I have several friends having the same issue. I'm running extremely quick and the rest of them (one having better specs, the other doesn't) is way behind me. I would honestly doubt it to be an error of specs or connection, as this was my first guess too, several days ago, and we couldn't fix anything about it.

    Rarest Item?

Saw press vest in some train stations, yep. Rarest item: blood test kit, right behind the can opener. Edit: delete please, didn't see the last page. o.O

    So tired of being colorblind...

Handcuffs! *hint* I had the same issues and I'm convinced by a lot of timesink (find food, all sorts, drink, so much water, wow) today that regeneration as such is not yet implemented.

Map of Dayz SA + Loot spawns

Right. Also, the deerstands are empty still, as are the castles - or I simply had bad luck? Anyway, I'm confident these mentioned areas and buildings will get lootspawns.

Map of Dayz SA + Loot spawns

I'm quite happy to explore everything anew - even though I have a commen knowledge of the map from the mod. It's actually a big fun in the alpha! Something interesting to me is to forget about 'classic' loot spots, like barns or the military tents with wooden floors. I've been checking out the 2 spots and never found anything right now. Anybody with similar experience?

    Cantines not working?

I'm not being able to refill my canteen in a pond - is that working as intended? Couldn't find a well yet, but I thought I might be able to use the water from lakes. Meh.
