[Suggestion] Improved suggestions area
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to Rigor Mortis (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
What on Earth are you talking about? Those are called examples, not suggestions. This is a thread suggesting organizing this forum more. -
What kind of crazy potato guns are you making? All you need is a pipe big enough for a potato to snugly fit in with one end blocked and a hole in the side of the combustion chamber for filling/igniting the fuel.
-
I doubt it would cause any performance issues considering that it's a 1 for 1 item swap. Right now you can drop your whole inventory on the ground without (much of) it disappearing into oblivion :)

I expect this to be the least popular post I've ever made, but here it goes anyways. Has anyone here ever fired a weapon without hearing protection? Well, I have and with the exception of my 0.22, guns make my ears ring after a single shot, and some of them are worse than others. I would love to see handguns cause their owners to get a temporary ear ringing effect that reduces their ability to hear what's going on around them. Opinions? Hate mail?

hunger, thirsty, healty and a new for PSYCHE = moral
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to jgbtl292's topic in Suggestions
You seem to be having trouble reading -- I specifically stated I was _not_ for the psyche bar in the game and was referencing real life. I too was a soldier. Perhaps it is my job to recommend people get help. Your assumptions are many about someone you have never met. What I can say for certain is that many soldiers do regret killing people - even when their lives are on the line, and even if you don't. What I was talking about here was a particular individual's indifference to human life. He seems to think he could kill someone for no reason without any regrets -- that's where this conversation came from. I'm not sure what caused the propagation of such an opinion, but it seems to be rather pervasive in our society these days. I realize now that I'm just wasting my time anyways - I hope he kills all the bullies in his school and gets famous. -
What do you think the new zombie AI will be like?
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to Agilov's topic in Suggestions
Here's my evidence: log into DayZ SA and shoot a zombie in the chest -- it dies. If they were traditional 'undead zombies,' you would have to shoot them in the head to kill them. Ipso facto, they are not traditional zombies but some form of infected. I would really love if they changed the game mechanics so they _were_ real zombies... -
hunger, thirsty, healty and a new for PSYCHE = moral

It's sad that so many people think like this. Maybe you'll grow up one day. -
Exactly what it sounds like... we should be able to use animal skins to makes clothes. I assume this is coming, but just on the off chance it's not, here's the suggestion. I'd love to have a raccoon hat and a cow-pelt trench coat.

Sadly, the zombies in DayZ are not undead, so having decomposing remains crawling after you won't ever happen in this game. -
[Suggestion] Crafting clothes from skins
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to Rigor Mortis (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Thanks for the link and support irishroy -- it's odd that I didn't find your post when I searched for 'crafting furs' but I guess not every engine can be as smart as Google. :) -
hunger, thirsty, healty and a new for PSYCHE = moral
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to jgbtl292's topic in Suggestions
I'm not arguing for a psyche bar in the game, but there's a vast difference between seeing someone get hit by a car and committing murder - even in self defense. Everyone does care...it's hard wired into our brains - even if they're ignorant of it until they commit the act - with the exception of psychopaths. This is by definition, and seriously, if you think you fall into that group, seek help (i.e. if you really believe you would kill someone without remorse). http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/mindmelding/201301/what-is-psychopath-0 -
Fog horns, air raid sirens etc
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in Suggestions
Having an old-school raid siren with a hand crank would be nifty. It would also be awesome to be able to set up some kind of light beacon for night time -- right now I climb towers and jam flares on them for this. Perhaps this could be a use for fuel and generators? Fix up a genny and add fuel and you can power lights at an air field and an electronic raid siren or something. -

hunger, thirsty, healty and a new for PSYCHE = moral
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to jgbtl292's topic in Suggestions
This statement disturbs me. Either you are a psychopath or you just haven't killed anyone/anything yet and don't know any better. I would suggest you get a rifle and find a friendly animal you generally are indifferent to (cat or dog preferably) and shoot it. If the act of killing makes you feel sick to your stomach, you are a normal human being - congrats. If you don't feel anything or get excited by the kill, seek help from a trained psychiatrist. -
It would be pretty cool to see both indoor and outdoor ranges at/near the military bases. Since this game has such awesome view distances, it would be cool to see a 1 mi range somewhere.

[Suggestion] Ringing in ears
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to Rigor Mortis (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
There are ear plugs that allow you to hear perfectly and also muffle gunshots. I loved these things when I was in the military. http://www.pksafety.com/moldex-battleplugs-impulse-earplugs.html?gclid=CIXM3fPdmr8CFZRj7Aoda3YAcQ -
I completely agree that an animation would make this more immersive, but that's not the argument... you're saying it takes 10 seconds to take a backpack off a person (who isn't trying to fight you)... it doesn't. I can open an inventory and get any items I want in under 10 seconds, so what would be the point of taking the whole backpack? The action of grabbing the backpack and running should be pretty fast -- 2 seconds is _plenty_ of time. The other animations you listed make sense - eating takes time. Most people can't just dump a whole can of food into their mouth and swallow. Drinking has the same issue. Skinning and quartering an animal takes a while (much longer than the game animates, actually). There's only one situation I can think of when it would take 10 seconds to remove a backpack and that's if the wearer had a waist belt and a chest belt on that pack as well as the shoulder straps. Perhaps a compromise would be to change the time based on the type of backpack. A normal, 2 strap backpack comes off instantly in most cases. With a sharp knife, any backpack comes off in less than 5 seconds.
-
Not really, it just requires you to be a good sniper. Do you really need 10 seconds to hit a stationary target at a predetermined range?
-
Is this because you think it's more realistic or for gameplay purposes? I can take a backpack off a dead person in less than one second in most cases (grab tab at top of pack, pull slightly up, slides right off - get a friend to lie 'dead' wearing a backpack and try it out.) As for running with the backpack -- I think this is yet another case where a fatigue/stamina/weight system is required.

There ya go - I gave you 5 cans + 4 free posts for this ridiculous off-topic discussion. Have a nice day.

I'd be happy to accept your help. Is there something in particular that you think I need help with?
-
No worries, just trying to help.
-
Exactly... and the other 10% of the time you can look in the breech and at least have an idea of what size round goes in there. I can understand not being able to tell 7.62x51 from 7.62x39 easily, but at least you could look and say "that's bigger than 5.56 but not near a shotgun."
-
Just FYI - this is the suggestions section. You should expect suggestions not announcements. :D

Increase the range on walkie talkies, please...
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to Kaboki's topic in Suggestions
Handheld radios (aka walkie talkies) are generally what we in the biz call 'line of sight' radios. That means if you can see your target, you can probably talk to them (don't make me go into free space loss equations please...). Unfortunately, radio waves are not as simple as that. They can also bend around things, bounce off things, get absorbed by other stuff, and even channel through the atmosphere to distant places. For the sake of the game, I think they should use these two easy rules: a. If two radios are within 1 km of each other then they should be able to talk, regardless of what is between you. b. if you draw a straight line between two walkies and it intersects the ground, then you can't communicate. Otherwise, you can. Basically this lets you communicate farther than 1 km so long as you have line of sight' -- more or less.
