Grenade as a life preservation device - must read
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to Pokerguy12's topic in Suggestions
This is supposed to be a game where people can choose to play however they want, right? So regardless of how the addition of this option affects gameplay, it should be in there to allow people the option to do it. It's not unrealistic or crazy to think that you can yank a pin on a grenade and run around with it ready to go off in your hand. Perhaps they could make a couple of ways to throw a grenade. One way would hold on to the handle until you feel like throwing it, and that would always have a 5 second timer regardless of how long you waited to throw. Another way would be to drop the handle and 'cook' the grenade. After 5 seconds it would blow up in your hand if you didn't throw it. An easy way to do this would be to have to hold a specific key when you try to cook off the grenade (since that's the more dangerous one it should be a little more complicated). -
Make hospitals have hospital related loot.
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to TheGreatPerson's topic in Suggestions
It does... part of the trouble is that approximately 2 useful things will spawn in a hospital, and the first person in there will take those... then everyone else who goes in finds rotten fruit and random other junk. -
I was always annoyed that pistols didn't come with mags in them - not because it makes the game harder, but who the hell drops a mag out of a pistol, then runs 5 miles with the empty gun and drops it? I'm not saying that ALL pistols should start with mags, but I think most should have a mag in them.

Yes please on the watch... and maybe a clock tower in one of the towns. I hate not knowing what time it is... at least with the latest patch the sun seems to be back in the west in the evening. For a while it was in the south :\
-
Ok - make it as complicated as you want. No reason to spend a few minutes writing a program to simplify things if the community prefers complex.

It's not a bad idea imo, but the problem I have with the current system is how long it takes to starve... a real person can go 2 weeks with water alone pretty easily (people have been reported to live 40+ days with only water) -- not saying I would want to go without food that long, but right now you die in the game if you aren't drinking/eating all the damned time.

Sorry, I'm using an old form of the word hacking -- I meant to say 'typing a lot needlessly' Regardless of how standard XML is, filling in a form is a human thing, writing XML is a machine thing. The only reason to make players write XML is the devs are lazy or they never intended players to modify the file in question.

I guess I just don't see a point in making people use 'normal' names -- after all, when you meet someone in game does their name pop up over their head or do they introduce themselves? When I talk to people in-game I don't ever mention my name.

Lol - you're absolutely right, but this made me laugh when I saw that someone actually argued that helmets don't absorb applied forces and you had to explain it ^^

It seems that your rules are silly and arbitrary... let people go by whatever they want. If someone wants to be known as Sku1lFuXor001 then so be it. So no hyphenated names like 'Laura-anne' or 'Velasquez-Wallowitz'? So the name 'Helxsklnxpzly' is ok? What about Tim? Ned? Vi? Some people even go by a single letter... I know a chick that her name legally changed to 'T' b/c she hated her given name. Only 3 words? There are plenty of cultures that keep more than first/middle/last... and what if you want a title like Sr. Jr. Dr. Mrs. etc.... Really? What about zombies glitching through walls and attacking thin air when you step aside? What about not knowing which direction you were shot at from b/c you don't have 7.1 surround and perfect silence in your gaming room? Third person view? I can think of a dozen more reasons my 'immersion' gets all messed up :(

I agree that people are not mentally handicapped (in general), but your example is flawed. I think you should have said that there is nothing stopping _some_ soldiers from becoming physicists. Not just anyone can understand physics to the level required to be termed a 'physicist.' I know plenty of people that have trouble with simple math, let alone advanced linear algebra and vector calculus.

Just saying that this is supposed to be a 'stand alone' game, not a mod, so if they were going to include features like this from the start, some other system than hacking xml code would be preferable. They could even add a menu in-game to edit this type of stuff. I was thinking website because it would be very easy to program and manage, plus the game studio probably already has an annual budget for web hosting.

Able to bind multiple guns to backpack
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to Ganjamaster's topic in Suggestions
I could see how carrying a ton of guns could ruin gameplay, but if they implement a weight/fatigue system, I could see it balancing out. If some moron wanted to lug around 50 lbs in guns/ammo, they'd barely be able to walk but they could be ready for anything... up until someone put a bullet in them to 'shop' in their mobile armory. -
Able to bind multiple guns to backpack
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to Ganjamaster's topic in Suggestions
Not a bad idea. Given some rope you should be able to bundle up weapons or even sling multiple weapons. They should jack with your movement, make noise, and be heavy. -
Instead of making players deal with xml code, why not just make a website where you can login and fill in this info? Then you could have a central repository of clans and people could recruit/etc. and the ghetto editing of xml would be unnecessary.

Suicide option is something I think should only be implemented if they add respawn timers. First death is a few minutes, each one after adds 10 min (which reduces as you play, obviously). This way if you keep suiciding, you will end up with a 10 or 20 minute wait to play... if you get killed after playing 10 minutes, you'll respawn instantly.

Right now fists are stronger than some guns... just learn to punch.

Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to jgbtl292's topic in Suggestions
I'm afraid your ignorance is so overwhelming that I can't even try to argue with you... which probably means you're just trolling b/c I doubt anyone can be that dumb. Have a nice day, Master Troll. -
Can I has sammiches?

You know, now that I think about it, why can't you use a sewing kit and a stick to make a fishing pole?

let people choose what item they want when they spawn
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to valtsuh's topic in Suggestions
I think a variety of random starting items would be good, but if random starting items are implemented, no player should ever start with a weapon, tool, or additional slots for their inventory. Raw materials (rope, duct tape, rags, different clothes, hats, etc) would be fine by me, and even things that were just mementos like coins or jewelry. Several different types of flashlights might be entertaining to give out as well. -
Long-term suggestions, are they possible?
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) replied to Qayin (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
While it's true that in the real world people would band together and try to build safe zones, in this game that would be very dull unless the dynamics of the game changed drastically (ie zombie hordes wandered the wilderness and you had to defend against them or hide from them). The persistence issue is also a big problem as UltimateGentleman mentioned. I think what will make the game more interesting is simply adding some kind of threat more often -- here's a brief list: - dangerous wild animals (snakes, wolves, bears, big cats, spiders, etc) - disease (stagnant water, decomposing bodies, rotten fruit etc) - more zombies and roaming hordes of them, not just a few scattered through towns - more players I believe most of those are already planned for the game... and once they are included, you will have more than enough stuff to keep you busy just surviving. -
I'm not sure who you are speaking for, but definitely not me. I don't think zombies should ever have any type of intelligence, including a player behind the wheel. If players do get turned into zeds (which seems unlikely considering the lore), I would expect it to be the same as dying, except your dead body would be roaming the world somewhere as a zed.
