Someone asked Dean about the plans for underground areas in the game and he basically told them that it's not on the roadmap and it's not going to happen... it made me sad.
-
From what I heard Dean saying on the 'roadmap' video, it sounds like they _want_ people to server hop. They're talking about global (hive wide) limits on certain items so people would have to go server to server to find certain gear (like heli parts). To me it seems that they consider server hopping to be part of the game. I guess we just have to imagine that our characters live in a world where they can 'slide' between parallel realities at will if we want to keep immersion :\

Think about what it would require if they added this... they'd have to show the damage to skin/clothing/etc. They would have to track first/second/third degree burns for each section of skin on the body for each player. Not to mention the physics involved... how do you determine if someone gets burned? How much temperature difference/energy transfer is required to cause these types of burns. Also, do you really want to add yet another medical item you have to carry around just in case of getting burned? I think they could implement this as you have described it, but most likely burns will be a simplified version - i.e. if you are in contact with fire for x seconds then you catch on fire and while on fire you take damage. If you stop/drop/roll then you can put out the flames, or if you jump into a body of water, or if ppl use a fire extinguisher on you etc. and it will stop the damage. Healing will likely be the same as for any other type of injury.
-
That's a valid point...I also enjoy the challenge, but are 2 extra slots in a medic bag really an 'instant win' button?
-
I like polls like this... Would you like $1,000,000? -Yes -No ... and people still vote no.

I didn't read all the posts here, but if you're interested ins kills, here's a decent thread that was popular pretty recently. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/183479-perksskillsprofessionsstats/?hl=skill

I hope it doesn't go away.

Not really sure why you quoted me on this one, but I'll be happy to respond. I'm not for areas where you are 100% safe, and I'm not for areas where you can't shoot or be shot.... I'm just for areas where players can't magically spawn in with 4 of their fully geared friends and destroy your base from the inside out. I'm also for areas where zombies don't spawn because it wouldn't make sense for them to spawn there (i.e. fenced in and defended bases)
-
Please add slow (Romero-style) zombies as a server option.

Just thought you might enjoy this thread. -
I'd love if they'd implement some kind of IED system, but it might get crazy... bombs all over the maps and shit. If they'd let me I'd make shape charges from old pots and the explosives in grenades/other munitions and turn them into anti-armor land mines.

For anyone who is unfamiliar with a Giant Voice system -- it is a very tall pole with a stack of speakers on top used for mass notifications in emergencies. I'm sure you've heard them for something in your area if you live in the US -- they usually test these at least once a month with a long wailing tone at noon. Anyways, my idea is to make a couple of locations in each city where you can access the mass notification system for that town and broadcast a very loud message that could be heard even out into the countryside. Since it would broadcast from many stacks at once, I don't think it would give away the players exact location (although there would be limited locations to broadcast from), and it would give people the ability to put out warnings, requests, and whatever else they feel like. Perhaps they would require a generate to be fixed before they worked, but I think it would be fun if you could just go up and announce whatever you felt like to a whole town.

I already covered power... but to reiterate -- you could make a hand crank to get enough charge for a few seconds of use, or you could use car batteries to power it... and before you guess as to whether these systems can operate on batteries or through a hand crank charger, the answer to both is YES. Mass alert notification systems are designed to operate during catastrophic disasters when the main power grid is offline... that's the whole freakin' point. I appreciate that you don't think they have microphones attached, but I must let you know that every one I have installed (notice that I'm not assuming anything... I actually worked on these systems) had at least one microphone -- sometimes one at every speaker stack. The really cool ones had radio receivers in them so you could use any handheld radio to talk over the loudspeaker so long as you were on the right channel. The only legitimate argument against this is that people will troll with it (just like letting people spray things on walls will result in porn everywhere). I actually would really welcome that b/c it would be the fastest and easiest way to find douchebag trolls to ban from my server.

There's a problem with your logic here -- if I build a whole city that's fenced in, the only way for zombies and players to 'get in' is to come through the fence, right? Wrong. Players can ghost in from other servers, and zombies can spawn wherever they please (based on the game devs). I would be OK with safe zones being player created -- but the mechanics aren't there and from everything I've heard they aren't even planned. There are two major ideas that would need to be implemented 1) anti ghosting and 2) zombie no-spawn areas. Personally, I would also want these areas to generate NPCs based on the size and number of buildings... but I already talked about that somewhere in this thread. As for labelling people heroes and bandits... well bro, if you rob people for supplies, you're a bandit, plain and simple (whether you murder them or not). If you try to protect people by taking out bandits, you're coined a hero. If you try to avoid all those crazy people in general, we call you a survivor... and if you kill people just for the fun of it, I will call you a psychopath. You might not like labels, but they have roots. You can start calling a car a jellarophantoluge all you want... but it's still a car to everyone else.

This made me smile :D

Being shot is just being hit really, really hard in a small area. You will be knocked away from the impact direction a small amount (not like the movies, but there is momentum imparted) and you will have a hole in you that very directly points to the direction you were shot from. Although giving a precise heading would be silly, it's stupid to think that you would have no idea which direction that injury came from. For a good example, shoot a friend with a bb gun... I guarantee they will turn straight in your direction.

So, if my favorite server goes down for maintenance, I have to start over on another server? Let me help you search for this: search ghosting

That is what I meant, and I don't see why ppl are so against the idea. It might even help admins ban trolls... they could just listen to what is going over the giant voice system in each major city (there would probably be less than 10 in the whole map so it wouldn't be that hard) and when someone starts spouting racist propaganda, ban their ass -- or don't, because you believe in the 'sandbox' genre and truly want to let people do whatever they want. You can't have it both ways. "Let's let everyone do whatever they want, but not things we don't like." -- John J. Hypocrite

Simple suggestion - I'd like to see some sort of system to hand an item to a person or get an item from them other than throwing it on the ground. Just saying, it seems odd that I can't hand things to people directly.
-
Lol - you'd be right on most days... didn't get much sleep last night and I'm exhausted right now. I probably failed horribly at searching and my thought process is likely erratic and just plain wrong. I should probably avoid making any new topics until tomorrow... ;)
-
You're right. We should call them gangs instead of teams. We'll give red arm bands to the Bloods and blue arm bands to the Crips and we can defend our hoods (towns) from the hordes of cops (zeds) and pop caps in the honkies (bambis).
-
It would be pretty cool to have some sort of 3d inventory system with a physics engine so you could 'drop' things into a bag and then have to 'dig' for them... but that might be quite a stretch for a mouse/keyboard game. We'd need some awesome kind of HMI like a Leap Motion or a Kinect.
-
I was considering posting a radio suggestion (as I was a radio tech for many years in the military), but there are already plenty of threads on that and the game has walkies already. I believe I have an old post somewhere that gives recommendations for improvements to the radios that are already in game... but I would have to go look for that and it's lunch time here :D.

It looks phenomenal. Hopefully the game devs will hire this guy lol.

I wouldn't want the infected to be afraid of fire, but I agree that the woods are far too safe right now. Roaming the countryside at night should be scary instead of comfortingly safe. I hope they add some wild animals that will hunt lone survivors at night as well as bands of roaming infected in teh woods.

Again, no one in their right mind wants to sit in one place all day in a game like this. 'Safe zone' cities would be places to do commerce, group up, and socialize.\ Perhaps we could combine the two ideas tho. If you build a large enough fenced in area with structures inside then the game could generate a couple of NPC 'guards' to keep violence to a minimum within the area... they could even be programmed different ways - KoS anyone without a certain type of clothes, only arrest/disarm ppl who bring out weapons, etc. Anyways, then if you built a large enough city, you could get doctors/merchants/other NPCs. This way you would need a large group and lot of motivation to build something like this, but it would be persistent when you left the world (although not impervious to attack/destruction). Definitely would be cool to build something like this into the game so we can make our own cities.
