While it's true that a debug monitor should not be a permanent feature, may I point out that this mod is still in ALPHA STAGES and removing the debug monitor just to try and be hipster and "anti-game" is utterly pointless especially since there are no "immersive" mechanics being added to show stuff like bandit kills or murders. If anything the debug monitor needs MORE information at this stage, not less.

New Hacker Griefing Technique

It's a debug monitor dude. If you're so concerned about your immersion why are you even running it in the first place? -
Not a care-bear thread, but asking for a solution
porkus_maximus replied to Jurkey's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So he stops murdering people and instead simply gets murdered himself. I tried to play friendly for an entire month and you know what I realised? It's not fun. It's not fun to always be the victim. It's not fun to always run and hide whenever you see another player. It's not fun to get shot in the back by someone you're trying to help. It's not fun to get killed by someone because I have something they want. So fuck it, I shoot 99% of people I see on sight. I kill them before they can kill me. I kill them because then I don't need to spend all my time hiding in fear. I kill them so they can't betray me. I kill them so they can't take my gear. -

You want people to stop mindlessly deathmatching in Chero? Then you need to give players something else to do. "This game is a sandbox!" I hear people say. Yeah it's a sandbox alright, one big empty sandbox. What exactly is there left to do in the game after I've made the journey north for the Nth time? I spend an hour or two getting my character tooled up with sweet military loot and then I do...what exactly? Go look for a vehicle? To what end? I get miltary loot and a vehicle so I can... get more military loot and vehicles. What's the point? Once you been to the airfield a few times, found a few crashed hellies and fixed up a couple of vehicles you've experienced everything the game has to offer. THERE. IS. NOTHING. LEFT. TO. DO. IN. THIS. MOD. May as well take my nifty military gear and go shoot people and where am I going to find people? Cherno. Elektro. Give me ONE reason why I shouldn't shoot everyone I encounter on sight. There is honestly not one single reason why I shouldn't just kill every single player I come across because there are zero negative consequences for my actions. -
Has the hero skin changed your gameplay experience at all?
porkus_maximus posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Because it hasn't changed mine. I've had the hero skin for about a week now and I have not encountered a single civilian that doesn't try to kill me on sight. -
DayZ is a joke in its current form
porkus_maximus replied to seanmcloughlin7's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Is that some kind of joke? DayZ is a sandbox game... but it's an EMPTY sandbox. It's like playing Grand Theft Auto without actually doing any of the missions which push the story forward, you just drive around and start killing people until you eventually call down too much heat, die and start all over again. I'm not saying DayZ needs missions but it definitely needs something else to fill it out. Minecraft is a pure sandbox game but in Minecraft you're limited only by your own imagination, in DayZ there are very distinct limitations to what you can and can't do. -

porkus_maximus replied to seanmcloughlin7's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Is DayZ an alpha? Yeah it is, but that excuse isn't going to fly with me anymore. Let's be honest with ourselves for a minute, this mod was never going to make it beyond the "alpha" stage considering how long it takes to get an update that barely fixes anything and almost always breaks something new. There's really no development process occuring with the mod, it's not going anywhere. We'll be lucky to see the next patch before Christmas and all it will do is add a completely pointless feature anyway. The DayZ team should just be honest with themselves and the community and admit that the mod is stone cold dead and focus 100% of their efforts working on the standalone. Right now it feels like the mod is being kept alive on some kind of cruel life support, but the key issues are never going to get fixed so why bother? I'm assuming Rocket wants to try and keep hold of people for as long as humanly possible because he's concerned that if people stop playing the mod, they may not come back for the stand alone. The progress of the mod has run into a brick wall due to the limitations inherent with ARAM2 and battleye. It's a damn shame because the mod was fun for a short time but it's going nowhere fast and people need to realise that what we have now is basically what we're stuck with until stand alone alpha is released. Any time spent trying to keep this mod on life support is time wasted that could have been spent working on the stand alone. -
I'll stop combat logging when people stop teleporting/ghosting to get behind me.

Is KOS really that big of a problem?
porkus_maximus replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Humanity doesn't mean a thing. I've built up so much humanity just from blood bagging a group of friends that I could go on a murdering spree for an entire week and not lose my hero skin. Not that it would even make a difference because I'm wearing a ghilie suit so my humanity and my skin are a moot point. In the situations where I've encountered other groups of players that have heroes in them, the hero may not instantly shoot me but their friends have taken a KoS approach 100% of the time. In some extreme cases I've been KoS'ed as a hero by another hero. Humanity is a completely pointless statistic. People KoS regardless of what skin they have or what skin you have. -
So after a 9 dayz break i try playing DayZ again
porkus_maximus replied to zmol's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
May as well go play the single player version if you're going to take this approach. -
Some hackers use a tool that allows them to completely bypass battleye. Until battleye gets updated to detect the bypass they can do whatever they want.

Stop flaming play-styles.
porkus_maximus replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Because a mod like DayZ has the potential* to encourage a wide variety of player interactions but people like you seem to insist on shitting it up with your generic deathmatch playstyle and the only way to cope with that playstyle is to adopt it yourself, ergo everyone ends up playing Call Of Duty: Chernarus Ops regardless of how they originally intended to play the game. This is just a spectacular contradiction. *it has the POTENTIAL but unfortunately it's missed in the current alpha mod. At the moment DayZ is less of a survival apocalypse and more of an excuse to engage in dickish misanthropic behaviour simply because you can. There are 101 other FPS games for you to go play deathmatch in, bringing that playstyle to DayZ is a tremendous waste. -
Is KOS really that big of a problem?
porkus_maximus replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ultimately everything has already been said on this topic but I'll weigh in since I have a horrible cold and can't sleep. The fundamental issue with DayZ is that it's a sandbox survival game where the sandbox is empty and survival is easy but ultimately pointless. There are no long term goals available for survival gameplay other than maybe getting a vehicle, or trying to find a specific weapon. Most experienced players will have everything they need to survive within about an hour of gameplay, unless they are exceptionally unlucky finding the essentials (it once took me SIX HOURS of gameplay to find a hatchet if you can beleive that). The game is less about trying to stay alive and more about trying to kill as many people as possible before going down in a blaze of glory. Many people will argue that they KoS in order to keep their character alive. I personally find that a little hypocrtical since in most situations it's extremely easy to simply avoid other players and I find that people make an active choice to escalate the situation to a point where someone is going to die. But honestly I can't blame them because there's literally no reason not to shoot someone if you have the opportunity to. The absolutely WORST case scenario is that you shoot at a guy, miss and he or someone else kills you... but is that really a big deal? Unless you're rolling with some exceptionally rare equipment it's not going to be a huge loss, despite claims that this mod has "permadeath" life is extremely cheap and it doesn't take long to get back on your feet. If you're the kind of person who simply goes around shooting other players for shits and giggles then even if you die it will only take you 10-15 minutes tops to find another gun and continue on your murderous rampage. DayZ has the potential to be a truely immersive experience but right now there's very little to become immersed in and it's not very surprising that so many people play the way they do. Empty sandbox environment + internet annonimity + complete lack of consequences for your actions = everyone acts like dickholes to each other. -
cherno/elektro deathmatch makes the rest of chernarus irrelevant
porkus_maximus replied to Fuji (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It has nothing to do with people being "obsessed" with major cities. The simple fact is there is very little reason to go to a place like the NE airfiled, it's a heck of a long way to travel just for 2 hangars and a control tower, nothing interesting or unique spawns there and in the unlikely event that someone IS there you're a sitting duck for snipers. The NWAF has more than twice as many loot spawns plus it has unique items that can't spawn anywhere else on the map. Spreading the loot around the map is pointless if there's nothing to do once you get the loot, which is the current situation we have now. DayZ is a "sandbox" experience but in its current form it's a pretty empty sandbox with too few toys to play with. Hopefully standalone can address that. Makes perfect sense when you think about it. People specifically choose low populated servers to get loot or vehicles, if I saw a server with 10 players or less I'd bet money that at least one of them was at the NWAF. -

I got sniped by the as50 TWS on a server with maybe 5 other people on it. I spawned on Elektro coast so I just figured what the hell, I'll check the place out. As soon as I got near the fire station next to the church I got blasted, I wasn't particularly annoyed I just kind of rolled my eyes since you'd have to be a pretty sad individual to sit for hours on a low pop night server to shoot unarmed fresh spawns using a hacked weapon. I then jumped onto another night time server with less than 10 players, spawned in practically the same position and got gunned down running into one of the restaurants. I do have some servers on my favourites that fill up on friday nights/weekends but since I've now lost all my gear I've been sticking exclusively to servers with 15 players or less. Who asked you? Cunt. No I'm attached to my time, which is a precious investment. If this so-called alpha is going to have 101 different ways to instantly take away everything that represent several hours of my time then it stands to reason that there should be mechanics in place to easily replace those items without me needing to jump through the same hoops I've jumped through several times already. This game is starting to feel like a korean MMO grind fest. The question isn't whether or not I'm going to get the items I want, because getting everything I need/want in this game is very easy. The question is simply how much time is it going to take me? And perhaps more importantly how long after I get those items will I simply lose them again? The answers are heavily influenced on how many bugs, glitches and hackers I encounter. -

All my tents across various servers get wiped with the update so all my LEGITIMATE back up gear is gone Respawned back on the coast with all my gear gone after logging off in a completely legitimate manner Killed on a night time server by some faggot with an as50 TWS jump server, respawn on coast, die in 30 seconds to some bush wookie emptying an entire L85 mag into me Can't find any vehicles becuase clans and server hosts are able to hoard them again Hacking still rampant But it's OK, because infected hunters now have a chance to spawn bear traps. -

Which Dupping has been fixed?
porkus_maximus replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Fixing duping will be the death blow for this mod I think, look at it this way; Hacking will still be rampant in the next patch. There will still be 101 glitches which can kill you without warning. Respawning back on the coast with all your gear gone or in the debug zone will still happen. These are all problems which realistically will not be fixed in the mod, however being able to dupe gear makes these problems a little less frustrating. I know that if i went to all the trouble of hiding my tent/vehicle in a really awesome hiding spot and then someone decided to use a map-hack to find it and destroy it out of spite, I'd be pretty annoyed. At least with the current bugs in the game I know that my tent will be back in the next reset. Lets say I spend several hours hiking up north, exploring towns, searching for vehicles and maybe raiding stary/NWAF, then the next day I get insta-killed logging in or simply respawn back on the coast with 0 items, not even a bandage or a backpack. At least with duped gear I can get myself back on my feet a little bit faster. I can't imagine anyone except hardcore masochists will keep playing if they keep getting set back to square one every time they get screwed over by a hacker or a gamebreaking glitch. -
Ah yes the tactical element of instantly killing whatever I point my crosshair at, yes that's definitely something that more games need. Lets face facts, sniping in mordern day video games takes about as much skill as a point and click adventure game.
-
I agree that the bottom line is the hacking/scripting issues. The sad part is that item duping is basically the only thing that keeps me playing this mod right now, getting killed by some hacker cunt is far less frustrating when I know I can get my gear back from tents after the next restart.

Interesting counter-argument you make there. Counter strike is the perfect example of a game where sniper rifles and completely out of place but are included to keep the "hardcore" snipers happy. CS is a game where fast reactions/snap shooting is extremely important, where the vast majority of engagements are CQC with "long range" engagements being maybe 100-200m at most. Sounds like the perfect environment for a rifle that's supposed to be accurate at 1500m, right? The impact that a single AWP makes in a game of counter strike is absolutely ridonkulous which is of course why snipers love it so much. At least CS makes the small effort of balancing the AWP by making it the most expensive weapon in the game while dayZ basically serves you a buffet of extremely powerful rifles.
-
Long story short; it gets their dick hard. Anyone who plays as a dedicated sniper in video games has a classic God-complex.
-
Problem 1: Sniper rifles are about as common as empty tin cans. Duping/scripting affects the high tier rifles but it's still really easy to get a low/mid tier rifle. Problem 2: Sniping in DayZ/Arma2 is extremely easy assuming you understand how to zero the rifle, or use mil dots. It's absolutely ridiculous how every single survivor in the game is basically an expert marksman who has no trouble handling a rifle @ 800m. Unfortunately every FPS ever is required to have sniper rifles due to the high percentage of video gamers with God complexes.
