What makes vehicles disappear/respawn?
StormCloudSeven posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Does server resetting cause vehicles to respawn? Restarting server timer causes respawns too? Yesterday I was playing with a friend over skype and at the end of our journey we found a bicycle, and have hid it inside one of those short bushy trees, saved the vehicle, and logged out. Today I rejoin that same server, the bicycle was gone. But because our hiding place for it was very close to where we found it, i walked right over to its original spawning point and its there again. Now I doubt some guy found our bike and just rode it back over there and left it. If server resets causes vehicle to respawn, wouldn't that make repaired vehicles kind of pointless? You could spend hours repairing a car, drive it somewhere, and the next day it wouldn't be where you left it. I mean I only have 1 other partner in DayZ that I play with, so for us to actually fix up a vehicle takes multiple runs back and forth between factories and the car, if spending all the effort to fix one up only means that it will be gone the next day because the server we played on reset while we were logged off, then isn't it all for nothing? I know many of the servers reset a lot too. We've actually tried fixing a vehicle ones, we found the blue van at a gas station and managed to fix 3 of its glass panels, 1 wheel, the fuel tank, and the hull. We then stopped for the day because we had already visited all the nearby factories but was still short on 3 wheels, we figured we'd log off for the day and come back tomorrow so that those factories will respawn some new items. When we logged off that night it was already about 1AM irl. We log back on the next day at around 2pm, we spawned in the factory, picked up whatever car parts we found there, and went our way back to the gas station where the car was at, only to find it no longer being there. It could be possible that someone else came by and completed the remaining 3 wheels and engine, but it was a US server which didn't have a lot of people playing in it (usually 5 or less), I doubt a lot of people played in it during mid night, so I assume the server actually reset or something over night and the van we half fixed just respawned else where. -
I bought the game just for the mod and here is my opinion. The mod is indeed a unique zombie survival game. It isn't no Left 4 Dead which is more like an arcade zombie game. Things in DayZ is slow paced, it could take you hours to just walk half way across the map. You have to care for your thirst and hunger meter, scavenge food and drinks to stay alive. Never have I played a game which could get me this freaked out at the sight of another player. It gets you paranoid, because you never know who is an A-hole so you must treat everyone as hostiles who wants to shoot you in the face and take the stuff from your dead body. If you play by yourself it could be great if you enjoy the "lone-wolf-survivor" style, it could be more fun imo if you can get some friends to play with you via skype/vent/whatever. Expect LOTS OF BUGS, the most bugs you will ever see in a game, trouble joining servers, getting spawned in a different place than you were last time you logged off, lose all your stuff even though you didn't die, etc. The bugs frustrates you, but you will be unable to stop yourself from playing more still.

The hatchet uses your primary weapon slot, if you have a gun in there it will try to put your primary gun into your inventory so you have the hatchet there, if ur inventory have no space for a primary gun then it tells you that msg

Stuck in loading screen even though i join matching versions
StormCloudSeven posted a topic in New Player Discussion
A lot of people say to avoid getting stuck at loading screen, you just have to check and make sure your version of dayz & arma2 matches the version of the server you choose to join. But as I'm testing this myself I dont see it being correct...My version is 1.7.2.4 and my arma2oa patch number is currently 1.62.95883. I join a server with exactly these 2 versions and I still get stuck on the loading screen. Its been about 15 mins since it began loading and it is still loading as I type this. Yes I am absolutely sure that my versions are 1.7.2.4 and 1.62.95883. -
How to actually install an arma 2 patch?
StormCloudSeven replied to StormCloudSeven's topic in New Player Discussion
Well there must be multiple ways to launch arms 2 OA with dayz mod because the way I was taught to do it is right click on Arma2OA in Steam, go to properties and type in -mod=@dayz in the launch options, Im not exactly sure how to do it your way with the "In expansion, window before MP" thing. Is there no way to launch arma 2OA with the updated patch through steam? -
How to actually install an arma 2 patch?
StormCloudSeven replied to StormCloudSeven's topic in New Player Discussion
It seems if I try to start arma through the "Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch", it isn't going to activate the DayZ mod, it just starts the regular Arma2 game -
So I get the endless loading screen problem, a lot. Probably 6/10 of the servers I choose to join will end up being stuck in loading. I read people saying updating the patch could help. So i go to where you download the patch and I install the "Arma2_OA_Build_95883.zip", extract the file, run the file and it says the installation was successful. I then run arma 2 OA on steam again and in the game's main menu bottom right corner it still says "Version 1.62.95248". I dont know if my installing steps were wrong or it just doesn't display what actual version I have, but this whole thing is just wasting so much of my time. You look at the list of servers and every server seems to be running a different version, some are "1.62.95248", some just says "1.62", some are "1.62.95417", and there are way more and im not gonna list them all. For some servers which has a different version than mine it is in red and I can't join those, then there are servers which are neither 95883 nor 95248 but the numbers are not in red and I can join them, this almost makes it seem as if its all just pointless and it is determining which I can join and which i cannot thru nothing but randomness. Through personal experience I dont even know if the whole "join servers which shares the same version as your own or else you will be stuck in loading forever" theory holds true. I've been stuck trying to join servers which I believe shares the same version as mine, while on the other hand have been able to join servers which has a DIFFERENT version than mine. Again, it all just feels randomized....and its very annoying to not know whether you will be stuck or not before you join, then you DO get stuck and have to reboot arma 2 again

Not sure if it has to do with extensive server hopping, as this has happened to my friend back when we just started playing. We spend 2-3 hours going from the coast all the way up to the Stary area while staying within the same server through out the entire time, then we logged off and went to sleep. The next day we relog and he got teleport back to the coast with all his items, while I was still at Stary...we join the exact same servers and almost the exact same time. I believe this is a bug more than a purposely placed system.... if this IS purposely implemented to prevent server hop, and it applies to those who are not even hopping within a small amount of time but are simply joining a different server the next day then I feel this system is unfair. Sometimes the server you joined yesterday could be down and you are either forced to play in another server or just dont play at all. Other times the server's admin comes on and just kicks you out because he wants to only let his group of friends play with him in his server for the next few hours. The players who dont have their own servers gets punished by being teleported, and the exact reasons why or how many server hops will equal 1 teleport is unstated.

How does helicopter saving work
StormCloudSeven replied to StormCloudSeven's topic in New Player Discussion
Can you explain what "loc" is? -
I know this has been asked before because I've read some of those topics, but the questions weren't asked as specific as I'm going to ask them so here goes. I just found a helicopter, I'm not gonna disclose what the server I found it in is called but lets just say the server name is "US 123". The helicopter needs repairing and since I only play with 1 other friend, it could take us a while to repair this baby. Questions: 1) When we "save" a vehicle, it only saves the state which the vehicle is in and all the items in it right? It doesn't save the location of the vehicle, that is done every time you get out of the vehicle? 2) So we've found a helicopter in server "US 123", if we were to continue using this helicopter every time we relog, we MUST continue playing in "US 123" is that correct? If we were to fly this helicopter to the airfield, land it and save it there, leave, and then join a different server which is not "US 123", we will not find that helicopter in the airfield? 3) Lets say we fully repair this heli and fly it, then we stop playing for the day and before we log off we save the vehicle. When we log off, does the helicopter disappear while we are gone? Or does it stay there in the server and other players could see it and steal it while we are logged off?

When I search online about vehicles it usually gives multiple spawn points on the map for each vehicle, I look at the DayZ-DB map and try to go to some of those vehicle icons but usually I'll find nothing there. Does this mean that those icons only represents places that MIGHT have vehicle there? And if they ARE there when I check, will it be a working vehicle or it could be one that's very broken and needs heavy repairs? Helicopters for example, I know that it only spawns 1 heli per server and i believe Skalisty Island is one of the locations, i swam there but see nothing. If I were to keep changing servers then in theory I'll eventually see one there right? And when I do find one will it work? I play with a friend and we could really use a vehicle because of the VERY annoying glitch where the game spawns you back at the coast even though you didn't die and was somewhere else when you last logged off. Happened to both my friend and I like 3 times each now....

Do I need to update something? O_o
StormCloudSeven replied to cindyanne1's topic in New Player Discussion
For those of you having very low frame rate, i've come to the conclusion that it is caused by the server's own problem. Because I've also ran into servers with really laggy gameplay, but I'd then join another server and have very smooth fps even tho i'm running the exact same graphics level. So if you want to play with good fps u'll just have to find servers that doesn't suck, it has nothing to do with ur graphics setting and lowering them wont help
