This is a SIMULATION, not a GAME.
WalkerDown (DayZ) replied to Puffy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There's nothing different than other FPS tho.. oh well there is something: it's pretty boring to repeat always the same thing, that is collect weapons to continue your death-match anytime you die. Initially we were attracted by the "zombies" (they always capture the interest), and the dream of having a "zombie apocalypse simulator", but unfortunately soon after we realized the obvious: this is a game, and we're videogamer (most of us are casual players). In fact after the initial "exploit", more and more players are leaving (look at the server list today, they are less than before and most empty, when before you were used to "fight" to find place)... DayZ today is: another FPS (deathmatch) with thousands cheaters; i'm not sure how long ppl (including me) will continue with this... what i know is that our group reduced from 20 regulars to just a 4-5. -
This is a SIMULATION, not a GAME.
WalkerDown (DayZ) replied to Puffy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ultra realistic simulation = it won't sell much. Game = it sells alot more (more arcade it is.. more it will sell because of the casual gamers; one example: CoD). Unless BIS going crazy, DayZ will never be a simulation. It doesn't count what you(we) want, neither if a bunch of hardcore gamers are making petition and polls, they will be ignored: money is what it counts. Accept the situation and stop dreaming.. or you would be disappointed when/if DayZ (the game) will be out. -
On private hive servers you may find more Arma2 vehicles.. depending of the server/network. In example the police car..

Vilayer is now bad... as the official HIVE.
WalkerDown (DayZ) posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
When a network expands you except that things goes better... but that's just the opposite. Now Vilayer is progressively being affected by the same problems we have on the official HIVE: 1) Loading times. They are getting worse and worse; 2) Database managing: impossible to solve individual issues (ie: reverts) due to the centralized database; 3) The worst one: server hoppers everywhere. This is one of the reason of why i jumped off from the official servers.. and now we're going to have them here as well. Ppl combat log.. or even hops on another server to stab at your back. -
There's networked servers (same hive), the biggest one is Vilayer... but there are more (bliss.. sanctuary...).

Discussions helps to improve the current situation.. doing what you're doing, without even asking yourself why you're doing it, and knowing that none is doing anything with your reports, won't help much. Anyway feel free to stop the discussion here.. good luck. ;) -

WalkerDown (DayZ) replied to WalkerDown (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You're paying the hosting.. not a "free to use" service, as you would pay if it was another game or just a website. Managed servers and "slots" costs more (if compared) than a dedi server, the advantage is that you can buy just few slots and you don't need to have any admin competence to run it. On the other side running a dedi server requires you to know how to maintain and admin it.. plus a good server (good, not just average or amateur) spec'ed to run Dayz, will costs you no less than 200-250 buks per months... not exactly what i would call "cheap". When i opened the thread i didn't meant to criticize Vilayer about the cost, but about the fact that when you get bigger, you going to face the same problems of the official HIVE, so you're going to loose progressively the advantage of running a private hive server. -

WalkerDown (DayZ) replied to pictureclas's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
There's no problem (in my opinion) to report ppl here... since none is doing anything, neither anyone can do anything about it.. it's just a wasting of time (hence the "frustration"). - You are an admin, and you *CAN* ban a cheater on your own server, assuming he's really a cheater. Here finishes your "job". I'm ANOTHER admin on ANOTHER server, i can't ban someone just because a friend of mine told me that someone else cheated on HIS server... it's against the ToS, because i have NO EVIDENCE of him cheating, my "friend admin" can be just the 12yo kid admin that spammed a guy's GUID, because he got mad of being killed. Why there's ppl reporting other ppl here? Battleye CANNOT ban those chaps, and other admins cannot trust your words. So my question is (again): what's the purpose of this "reports"? What are you trying to obtain? What do you expect? Are you posting your bans as a personal diary or what? -

Here's the point.. so what's the purpose of this forum exactly? It's a public place to express our own frustration? :) If none is doing anything anything with it... why keeping this forum open? /trying to understand -

So i can post yours, asking you to be global banned, saying you're a cheater, without evidence.. and i'll be fine? (i'm not sarcastic, i'm trying to understand how do you (mods/admin) apply these rules.. and based on what assumption;) -
Private Hive with weapons at spawn?
WalkerDown (DayZ) replied to chiknz's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'm jelaus of your ingenuousness.. :( ... i was like that months ago (when DayZ was "different"): today finding a weapon in a pure-pvp game is fun the first times you do it.. then it's a slow boring process.. coz you do the same all over again each time you die, and when you know all about the weapons available, and what you really need to start, it's an automatic process (there's no more thrilling into finding em.. you usually avoid any shit, concentrating on finding an AKM, M16/A4, AK for your first encounters). We're talking about the "first" weapon, nor about the "progress" (finding more powerful weapons, eventually from the player you kill)... that is a way more exciting, but you know already from the start that you'll end with an AS50 and a short-mid weapon as backup. -
Private Hive with weapons at spawn?
WalkerDown (DayZ) replied to chiknz's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
There's no zeds on Arma.. and anyway at the moment DayZ is pretty like an Arma2 death-match, since all the core features are f***ed it's impossible to build up a "serious" gameplay, so anyone lives for that single match/round, doing pvp... to die and start again. The process of collecting a weapon is the boring part, so a server with a starting weapon (at this point) makes sense. What's the point of collecting vehicles, placing tents, finding food, when you can't save the vehicles, tents doesn't work, you could die anytime because of one of the thousand script kids we have in game, you're just wasting your time... PvP is the only reason of why this game exists today. -
Too much confusion between hackers and script-kids. If an hacker is a pilot that knows how his car engine and other parts works together, the script-kid is the housewife that uses her car without really knows what's an engine or a wheel, she's just interested to use it to move from A to B for shopping. A cheater.. well, he/she's someone that exploits the game.. and he/she can fall fall in both categories.

WalkerDown (DayZ) replied to WalkerDown (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
A private server to be good needs: - No other servers networked, or a very few (like only 2 to circumvent a possible downtime), to avoid the server hopping OR a well solid system that auto-bans the server hoppers; - A certain number of (adult) admins that are constant online to monitor the cheaters/script-kiddies activity; - A support system that can help the players (ie: db reverting in case of a massive script-kid attack.. masskills etc.); - Solid hardware and good bandwidth to prevent or reduce the biblic loading times and lag; Unfortunately it's not easy to find all the above for free... so they are few. -

Nice to know that 2,000 bans do nothing
WalkerDown (DayZ) replied to electroban's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Atm the percentage of cheaters/script-kiddies (you rarely find a "hacker", coz they usually do not play at all) is around 7% on each server (it means around 2 cheaters on a 30 persons server). Those are incredible high numbers... sadly there's nothing they can do: Arma2 is this (poorly protected) and BE is a joke. But the worst part is that probably DayZ (the game) will suffer the same problem, coz it's heavily based on the current engine. -
Remove all military sniper rifles....
WalkerDown (DayZ) replied to gozzgug's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Every damn player (including me.. coz there's no other way to play atm) have a sniper rifle and an assault rifle (switching from backpack) ...and 90% of times i find myself doind what anyone else is doing as well: camping.. killing the first "idiot" who's brave enough to put his head outside of cover... because he got bored; because he's just a fresh spawn; because he didn't realized yet that this is a camp-fest. I agree, eventually leave just the CZ into the game, with a limited zoom and put out all the others.. including my beloved AS50 (i honestly admit that it's too f****ing OP, whenever i continue to use it.. coz, hey should i be the first to trash it? :D ). -
Yup, you need to constant switch the debug monitor on and off, it is a pretty annoying bug... sadly there's no other indicator (ie: during the night) of your current status (normally a person should know easily if he's bleeding.. if he lost much blood.. and stuff like that). The artifacts have been fixed for the dead soldiers but sadly not for the barbwire, so they still there in certain places (unfortunately they are many), they half fixed the bug *but* they introduced new bugs as well (the already mentioned hud icons bug.. the vehicles not saving fuel.. etc.). ...waiting for a proper patch, hoping it won't be another step back. :(

timeout = 30 [minutes]; // time to check OnDisconnect: db_save (user_id, cur_time, server_id); // save the current time and server_id on disconnect OnConnect: db_get(user_id, timeout); // get all the users instances of a given time frame if ((instances(server_id) > 1) && last_server != server_id) disconnect; // if the user connected to multiple servers then he returned on the original one within 30 minutes, he's a server-hopper (notice: you can still connect multiple time to the SAME server, but you cannot return to that server within 30 minutes if you gone elsewhere); This won't eliminate the combat loggers.. but it would eliminate the server hoppers (who reposition to attack you from back). -

Dont play DAY Z today! Massive CD stealing while IN GAME
WalkerDown (DayZ) replied to thelonewarrior's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Last week some intelligent guys released 3 different public cheats on a well known website, some other intelligent guys (many of them apparently) used them, believing they were "secure", because BE weren't banning anyone so far... without knowing that BS collects the GUID's for some days (or weeks) to ban all of them together... today is "the day", and all those intelligent players (actually: idiots) have been banned. End of story. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.2.6 Rolling Update
WalkerDown (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
You must started playing the game today, or you have no idea how it works. It's not accurate at all: you can have almost a b/w vision with 10800 blood and have a colour one with 8000 blood (yes i did my tests), also you cannot see any difference at night. I'm bored of repeating the same shit in every message because ppl like you are are not capable of following a thread. Those informations are essential for the gameplay, and they put them WRONGLY in a window calling it "debug monitor", so it's just an excuse, they are not optionals, they are needed: nor the zeds spawned.. but the damn blood level and humanity. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.2.6 Rolling Update
WalkerDown (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The point is that it's called "debug monitor", but it does really contains information that must be read/known during the game. In example your blood-level... you have no way to know your real blood level when playing the night, and sometime neither during the day (because of the lighting). Forcing ppl to make transfusions or eating continuously to be sure to regain a full blood level, is just ridiculous. So they half fixed the glitches (apparently only from dead bodies, but not from barbwire), but introduced new bugs that are going to heavily impact on the game play... that's because instead of release just an hotfix touching ONLY the dead soldiers issue, they wanted to manage with many other things. A hotfix is just that: a hot fix to resolve a showstopper, not a damn attemp to do many different things and then introduce other new bugs. That's why this patch is a step back, and that's why im still with 1.7.2.5 on private hive (where they had some brain to resolve ONLY the glitches).
