Doesn't matter if its an alpha. There is no excuse for removing log files on purpose like they did, rather than adding more of them.

Pro's and Con's of being an official server admin.
l0p replied to Renock82's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Indeed. We're shutting down our server too due to the impossibility of actually admining it. -
Hackers, and the state of the standalone game?
l0p replied to KetchupOnTheDog's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The reason, I suspect, is because all the decent guys are getting fucking fed up of cheaters and have decided to join the club. I know a couple that have. -
Is it possible for AS50 with thermal scope to spawn in DayZ?
l0p replied to Born2Steal's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you have an AS50 TWS it can be a sign that you are cheating. So unless you can prove you are not cheating, you will get banned. Enjoy your bans for abusing items that shouldn't be there. -
That's just 'omg its all scrips fault' retarded talk. The only thing that will change is the cheats, and the only true method to keep hackers at bay is human analysis and intervention as in good logs and admin tools..Cheats happen, you can put up fences and barriers in the client but they are going to happen and you only have to break said barriers once. The client is the moat and gate of a castle. If you don't have anyone defending the walls and watching who tries to get in (as in logs), eventually someone will break down the gate and then anyone can get in because there's nobody shooting intruders.

Hackers, and the state of the standalone game?
l0p replied to KetchupOnTheDog's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It can be the end of the game and for some of us it will probably be. I have no interest in keeping a server up where its basic usage iis to entertain cheaters. And yes, the game is helping the cheaters cheat big time. Take log removal in .5, which makes bad things harder or almost impossible to see, and for which there is no justification at all. If the game wanted to combat cheaters they'd give us tools to do so, not remove the few things we had. -
Not to mention "admins" without admin powers can still use cheats like anyone else and do the same damage they would do with real admin powers. The whole excuse of abuse prevention is just retarded.
-
LOL. If you think BE catches anything else than tards using old bypasses / injectors you live in dreamland. Come back and tell us how useful BE is when you figure out how it works besides "OMG SO MANY PPLZ KICKED IT WORKZ!!!!111"

You won't make money on standalone or Arma3....
l0p replied to SmithyD's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
DayZ can improve logging so that admins can detect cheaters. Rather than removing logs like they did and, hey, I guess the idea is that if you can't see the cheaters then they aren't there anymore! -

l0p replied to SmithyD's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Speak for yourself. There's no good reason whatsoever to remove logs rather than increase them given the contant pest that cheaters are. That doesnt require significant development time, and that doesnt require BI intervention. -
Good reason? How about getting tired of cheaters you can't detect or do anything about?
-
Not only there is none. Now that logfiles are even more useless "thanks" to the policy changes, it's gonna be almost impossible to catch them.

Lets remove even more control from the server admins!
l0p replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Exactly. I find quite ironic that everyone complains about cheaters and thunderdomes and rather than expand the log file capabilites dayz patch cuts them down to nothingless. As I was looking at the new sorry excuse of a log file that we have I wonder how long do I want to keep a server up when it's free for cheaters to abuse everyone and all I can do about it is read 'WRITE: PASS'. Lol. Oh, cheats for the new build are of course up and running. -
Petition to Boycott Standalone (until hacking is resolved)
l0p replied to HITPhoenix's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Arma2 could be changed so that it does not break everything and that only mods that request it are put in a sort of sandbox. Tthe reality probably is that they do not want to invest in developing functionality for an old client more than necessary. Ok, nothing we can do about that but lets not make it a technical issue because it is most likely not. The standalone, at any rate, client will suffer from the same basic problem .5 has aggravated. Once someone cheats he has gone tough the technical barriers and the only thing left is admin intervention. If dayz mod is going to be abandoned in development at least they could give us ways to detect and fight cheaters until the jesus client is out. Abandoning development in favour of a standalone and at the same time cutting the hands and gouging the eyes of people who try to keep scum away is Wrong. Who is going to be the first to relabel cheating programs as admin progarms and sell them for 15 bucks? Why do we need to resort to that? And why is development abandoned when there's things that could be done to make life of players and admins better until jesus client arrives? -
5 minute after the update and added vehicle & remote battleye files, and lo and behold here come the first cheater, unimpeded by battleye and invisible to the dayz logs.

It is not battleye which needs attention, its dayz and the fact that not only now we don't have crappy logs. We have almost no logs at all. So if a cheater runs something they'll have bypassed battleye, and what line of defense do we have left to catch and prevent future indicents? Denial and going lalalalanothappeningnothappening? -

l0p replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Nonsense. You obviously have not been paying attention to logs pre .5 because otherwise you would have noticed a particular event happening recently with no clue on who is doing it other than people who do it tagging it on innocent bystanders. Obviously you haven't been paying attention to your server to see the teleports. Or the bus spawners. Or the 2000m shots. Or or or. Nothing caught by battleye and now even less to be found in the logs. 90% of the cheaters ARE RUNNING BYPASSES because any script injector will come with a bypasser. But hey, enjoy not looking at the server so you can claim all is fine. -
Yea, that's why it makes so much sense to remove log files, so that admins can't maybe abuse players. The fact that it benefits the cheaters is insubstantial. The fact that admins can use said cheats also of no consequence. Lol.

Totally lost any faith I had in Rocket/dev team

You don't seem to understand how to manage a project or what an estimation is and what it is for. -
The blending of the tents is horrble. After you go away a couple meters you can spot them miles away in most cases due to texture & blending issues.

Petition to Boycott Standalone (until hacking is resolved)
l0p replied to HITPhoenix's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I highly disagree. I know how the game works, how the executable works, what and what not does BattlEye do, and how signatures work. The scripting is not the problem, the problem is that the server does not care about what's going on at all, is happy to swallow everything, and neither the game nor the mod care about where suddenly theres another car in the vehicle list when by design it shouldn't be there. You don't need a standalone client to check for that, or other object spawns, or people teleporting around when there are very well defined points for that, or how even after months theres still people running around with vegetation and trees disabled. Which has nothing to do with scripts, and there's no valid reason to abandon the current project to its ugly fate. I have been more than tempted to develop unofficial server policing tools at binary and scripting level. But then is it really worth to invest time and effort to play catch against the cheaters, the game devs and BE? -

l0p replied to HITPhoenix's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Also they can drum the standalone propaganda as much as they want, the reality shows they don't care or know what they're doing. The rcon / admin password is still in plain text in a file rather than hashed, the logs do not have a complete date to them and just a time, the time is in game time that is being easily manipulated by cheaters... yea, right, standalone will somehow fix how "security" is dealt with in dayz. -

l0p replied to HITPhoenix's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's nonsense, proven by the long standing tradition of cheating in any multiplayer game. The more popular, the more cheating. You want to stop cheating? You make sure the server and admins can monitor what the clients are doing. -

l0p replied to HITPhoenix's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lol as much as you like. Modern games have scripting engines or a vm in it themselves, this is no longer the early nineties. All you need to do is hook yourself early and you can do anything your client can do. Standalone will not buy you anything that you couldn't get by setting some decent client side restrictions, controls and logging on the current client, and wouldn't waste as much development time. But of course it is sexier to go for a standalone client and be in a new project rather than just fix the current one. -

CHEATERS CAN BE ADMINS! Is that that hard to understand?
