I think we can all agree that current zombie respawning is unrealistic and has no legitimation in this game. Instead zombies should travel through the map along migration routes, for example from south-east to north-west (of course they would spawn and disappear at the borders of the map). To make cities more interesting, the zombies could be programmed such that they feel incited to sniff around in built-up areas (you know maybe they have some vague memories of their past as humans..:-)) I think that would bring along some gameplay improvements, for example the need to avoid zombie migration routes and the ability to clear and hold cities against the zombie onslaught. One could also include "seasonal" variation in zombie migration.

Yes, factions are a great idea. You should be free to join or leave any of course, but killing anybody from your own faction (also shortly after leaving it), should result in loss of all gear.

Spot on. In real life pvp would not exist on that level, so the whole "realism" argument is bullshit. IMO dayz makers should hire professional assassins who hunt and kill anyone who dies in the game, lets see how much pvp we'll still see then.

What type of game was/is/should it be?
Rugoz replied to axelnito's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you play 1h dayz every evening you want to experience more than just pushing down 'w' til your finger hurts. Realism is nice, but obviously people don't play dayz as if their lives were at stake, so lets not exaggerate. Besides, the main issue with dayz wasn't even mentioned, namely that its not a MMO. The world of dayz should be persistent and thousands of players should play together, like in the MMORPG we know. -

Well right now dayz' gameplay suffers from: - Too much walking around. Seriously, 90% of the time you're just pushing down the 'w' button to get from one place to the other. I don't have the time or patience for this. There need to be more vehicles or some kind of teleport system (rather not). - The zombies are no threat whatsoever. Just run into buildings or out of town, turn around and shoot them. They should be faster an kill you with 2-3 hits. - No teamplay. Unless you're in a clan there is no teamplay whatsoever. One should not be able to survive in a town without someone else covering one's ass. There should be zones where people can meet and form groups. - No long-term goals. Looting alone won't make me happy. -
i'm new and i get killed by everyone, even when i say FRIENDLY PLAYER in the chat screen.

Yeah, this game is great for people who don't have a life. I mean I like difficult and realistic games, but if you search for equipment for two hours and then get killed by some sniper you cannot possibly have noticed it just feels you wasted another 2 hours of your valuable free time. I haven't met one single armed friendly human player so far, is this supposed to be fun? Sure, awesome atmosphere, but I need a bit more in a game. -
The RV3 engine certainly lacks in the fields of animation, lighting, effects, physics. However when it comes to details there is just a limit to how many you can show on a 300km2 map, even with a good LOD (level of detail) system. 3D shooter engines can load chunks of the map into memory because you won't see most of the map at the same time (yes that includes crysis). In ArmA 2 you are able to fly over the terrain with an aircraft at great speed or watch the landscape with a binocular from the top of a mountain. Whether the RV3 engine is the right choice for DayZ is another question of course, personally I am willing to sacrifice detail for more realistic military sim. I must say though that buildings could be modeled with more detail, as they seem to be pretty generic. Btw the RV4 engine looks quite nice with many improvements. This is part 1 of a 7 part walkthrough of ArmA 3, looks pretty good I'd say:
