What will be the first thing that you will do in SA?
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to Malvarik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm going to test out the new crap feature after I eat a couple cans of beans. Hopefully I don't have zombies crawling under the stall door. -
Haha... stop the PC master race BS... Even an Xbox 360/PS3 can play Day Z. Also, stop the stupidity that there aren't enough controls. A controller has plenty of buttons. Remember it doesn't need to use 3 different keys to transition from prone/crouch/run/etc like a keyboard does and that goes for the rest of the controls. Your heads are so far up your stinkholes tho.

Ragdoll is confirmed right? Sledge hammer with circular blades welded on FTW. -
Suicide in DayZ and why it's important

Your character will most likely remain in the world for a period of time even if logged off, making him/her vulnerable to attack and death. -
Why is the majority of the community little bitches?
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to miley's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I doubt there is going to be a 1970s gas shortage at the pump when you have zombies running around eating peoples faces. Though it would make for a nice storytelling scene in the standalone to see about 100 cars jammed in at a gas station and bodies everywhere... Then once the power goes out the majority of people wouldn't know how to syphon fuel #1, or where there tanks are #2... Which leaves the survivors, presumably the "fittest" or "smartest" of the bunch, are able to collect that lost liquid gold. -

Fuel and vehicles aren't going to vanish in an apocalypse... it's not authentic or realistic to limit them. That's my only issue with the vanilla version. The fuel pumps might not work at a gas station, but you can manually siphon from the underground (or overground) tanks I am Legend style. You would have to set the storyline decades into the future to limit things like that, but since Day Z is in current times you can't honestly justify limiting them. -
Suicide in DayZ and why it's important

I don't really see the problem with you trying to loot your previous corpse. It does cheat or ruin the experience at all, that's if you can even make it back to your body before someone else discards of it or you die along the way. Trust me, gear will not be hard to come by in the standalone. 100,000+ items spawning on server start, and most servers will probably doing restarts several times a day? Loot will be more plentiful if anything. In the end, you can't gauge success or progress based on loot because loot is meaningless. -

If the game had a Preventing access to your previous dead character doesn't solve anything. As mentioned many times before your character needs to possess some kind of knowledge... Whether gained by books, practiced through a careful repetition (not exploitable), or just somehow learned throughout your time playing... is really the only way you can make someone value their character because that experience will be lost upon death. This means in order to fly a helicopter your character needs to passively study the manual, it can be found throughout chernarus and can even have long training times depending on the difficulty of the task. Book would be valuable and can be traded, the knowledge gained remains saved to your character, or you could destroy/hide the book to ensure its rarity. The same goes for all difficult tasks like repairing a car or some advanced medical training. Each with their own training times depending on the difficulty of the task. This really is the only option I feel, and it would make things a little more authentic and really make you value your character. Does it suck that you found a helicopter, but now have to passively read a book for 48 hrs to fly it? Yeah, it does but it brings a realistic and practical difficulty. -

...No. -
They said they would be assessing release in June, which they did. That specific knowledge is not public other than they've picked an internal window for release.

That is probably too much for most Day Z players to comphrehend. Instead they think the game should tell them who is good/bad (humanity system) and that all players should prance around picking daisies in the meadows. The whiners of Day Z have primarily created the reason why I kill on sight. Not for griefing but the simple fact that they are annoying and need to learn the harshness of the game. No one can be trusted. Judging by the mass of people who complain about KoS ... there should be an overwhelming amount of people who don't right? Then it shouldn't be that hard to find people in game, or out of game, that enjoy your style of gaming. If you're complaining about KoS, but do it just because you suspect everyone will do it to you anyways... then you're the cause of your own problem. -

Standalone Zombie Jumping
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to globalfriction's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If people held their opinions till after things are released, then nothing will change. Think of the Xbox One and the power of the voice of the people. Is the spider-jumping zombies of Day Z that game breaking? No... but still the majority dislikes it. Also, to Fraggle. Saying the jumping zombies is arcadey is not a lazy way of describing it. It's how I would describe it in one word, and used games like Resident Evil, Dead Rising, to further seat the example of what "arcadey" games are like. People like Day Z Zombies for its realism. You know, doesn't take 3 magazines to drop an enemy, they die if shot in the face, and they aren't super intelligent. They are however glitchy in the mod, and that is the chief complaint.. Other than the select cry babies who think they need to be overpowered to encourage "Teamwork". I would like to see them grab you, and try to eat you but that is waaaaaay beyond the capabilities of Bohemia. They're good at keeping things simple, so keep things simple. -

Does it need to be elaborated on? They belong in Resident Evil, Dead Rising or some other game, and not to use the word "realistic" but this game is the most realistic of the genre and I don't think they belong. -

I am just emphasizing there needs to be some sort of mechanic that gives value to your character, because valuing your gear is not the way to go. While i'd love little minigames to remove bullets or suture up wounds, I just don't think that is within the scope of Day Z. Exploiting a "skill system" is obviously a problem, but I'm sure there are countermeasures that can be put in place to avoid that. -

There still is no penalty for dying, since you will respawn. Your character needs to be the vessel for which you value, meaning that his progress in everything you do should matter (like the skill system for lack of a better word) ... but gear? Day Z will never have a complete lack of gear, and if it does... I promise you it won't survive very long. No one wants to run house to house, building to building, and find nothing but junk; and I'm sure you're smart enough to realize that. Also, to touch on the road. They were very much KoS, that is the point I was trying to make. The boy would've been probably raped and murdered or used as a slave if his father didn't produce that revolver; for which the guy obviously didn't think there was any ammo for. It was a ruthless and lawless world. -

That's not really bonkers. Would you rather I hold you up and take your hiking boots and leave you barefooted or shoot you? I think you would hand over those hiking boots. Would it suck? Yes... but your life is ultimately more valuable than your boots. The game needs a "skill" system, not something you place points into but just a progression of activities you do that you gradually become more efficient with. Those are saved to your character and lost upon death. This has been hinted at but not really. That is what you should value and would ultimately make you value your character. Gear? Who cares... I know I'll find another hoodie and motorbike helmet. Even in the mod I've run across legit AS50s or other weapons at crash sites and would just bury them in a zombie. Gear means absolutely nothing. Putting a value on gear only encourages your undesirable KoS, as mentioned above. I might want your backpack and will forcefully take it from you. If I died, what do I have to lose but a few cans of beans and maybe my makarov? -

I have no problems paying a monthly subscription. I've never dealt with hacking or cheating in any game I've ever paid a subscription for. Is it possible? Maybe, but I still haven't experienced it in all my years of gaming. Reason people switch to microtransaction is they realized they can make more money off people then by charging them a monthly fee. Just look at how much money people make on all those stupid phone app games, or facebook games and you can see for yourself. -

This is where I disagree. You shouldn't value your gear, progression shouldn't be about your gear. Your player doing things and getting better at them, that is what should be valued because that is what you'll lose if he dies. Gear is meaningless. Weapons? Yeah... Lets say that 1 A-hole finds the weapon and you've been searching for days to defend yourself. He spots you and shoots you down. So now you can't even defend yourself. Hah... yeah, lame. I'm sure if you tallied up all the weapons in Chernarus with real life statistics you'll find a ton of them. Am I saying you need to spawn with a weapon or find them in every home? No. Currently the amount of weapons in the mod is quite suitable honestly, minus that of duping on more rare weapons. -

Look at every media or literature based on apocalypse's and you'll see it time and time again people turning on people... Sometimes for no reason at all. Dean has mentioned The Road plenty of times, which is very brutal proof of that. While none of that material is a guideline of how people will react in an apocalypse it does have an effect on those who watch it and associate end of the world scenarios with chaos. We are a somewhat peaceful and civilized society because of rules, in an apocalypse there are no rules and it is simple as that. For those preaching of the "better days of Day Z" what was that? The first couple days of the game where you are trying to figure the game and map out? Yeah, I thought so. Those days cannot be replicated. Once you've learned the game, learned the map, then it's about managing your health and gear while trying to stay alive. I have friends I play the game with, so we have no reason to be friendly unless we are in a friendly mood. We might want your backpack or something we need. We're going to take it from you, simple as that. You're obviously not going to let us just take it from you, so instead of talking about it we're just going to kill you for it instead. -

Reducing weapons in the standalone doesn't just disrupt PVP, but PVE (Or against zombies) as well. No one wants to be a-raped by zombies all the time, and as mentioned in the interviews they really haven't worked on melee that much which is disappointing. Make Zombies harder + Don't give you effective means of defending yourself = Stupid. So, if there is no effective melee system then we'll need to have the availability of firearms... Though as the forum has cried, over just about everything, the developers have decided to answer those cries and make weapons and ammunition rare (Though we'll find out the definition of rare come release) I started playing Day Z a couple weeks after it was made available, and infact my first player experience resulted in an axe to the back of the head because I was trying to be "friendly" ... early on you realize that players cannot be trusted and they shouldn't be trusted. That is the point. Stop being carebears. The game is as popular as it is now because of Bandits, and the tense moments of combat as you try to get that can of beans from the supermarket. That is Day Z, that is what it was in the beginning and that is what it will continue to be. Kill on sight didn't ruin the mod. Scripters and bugs ruined the mod. Stop being whine babies. -

The game is what you make of it, if you only see the Kill on sight issues then that is your problem for focusing on it. Restricting weapons and dumbing the game down just to reduce KoS is retarded, and that is exactly what is being done by making a lot of things rare. If you don't want to get shot, then don't be stupid and run around and say "friendly" thinking that is automatically a free pass. If weapons and ammunition are hard to find, this game will lose a lot of players. -

I haven't played the mod since 1.7.4. It got incredibly annoying with script kiddies and just the overall buggyness of the game. Though, as mentioned they can make the zombies hard as they want (I don't care) as long as they give the player the ability to properly defend themselves. To go with that... if it gets stupid, IE Horrible melee, always getting infected/spotted/unable to evade/etc then I'll just not play the game. I want to see this game succeed because we need games like this to be popular and for other games to spring up similar to it so that it has decent competition to evolve gaming to what players want.
